The reports, as CPSC published them
Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.
Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: It a battery powered Dewalt lawnmower.
Hazard Overview: I am reporting a severe, life-threatening laceration and amputation hazard regarding a DeWalt battery-powered lawnmower. The machine experienced a catastrophic control system failure, resulting in an uncontrollable, high-speed “runaway” state that bypassed all primary safety fail-safes. 1. Complete Speed Control Failure & Extreme Force: The mower self-engaged and accelerated to its absolute maximum drive speed. The machine completely overrode the physical speed dial setting. The self-propel system engaged with such extreme, aggressive torque that it required immense physical strength simply to hold the heavy machine back and prevent it from running loose into the neighborhood. 2. Catastrophic Emergency Stop (Safety Key) Failure: In an attempt to neutralize the runaway machine, I removed the designated safety key. This key is engineered to act as a hard electrical emergency stop. It failed entirely. The motor continued to run at full speed despite the key being removed, forcing me to physically wrestle the screaming, fully-powered mower in order to forcefully rip the FlexVolt batteries out of the deck to kill the power. 3. Grossly Understated Recall Parameters: The manufacturer (MTD Products Stanley Black & Decker) currently has a recall/safety advisory claiming this electrical short only occurs when the unit is “soaking wet” or exposed to heavy water intrusion. This is definitively false. My unit has been stored strictly in a dry, enclosed garage/shed environment with absolutely zero water ingress. 4. Dangerously Inadequate Recall Remedy: Because this catastrophic short occurred under normal, dry conditions, the manufacturer’s proposed remedy a basic harness replacement by a local dealer is fundamentally unsafe. A harness swap does not address the underlying engineering flaw, such as inadequate conformal coating on the control board or a defective switch housing, that allowed the safety circuit to fail so easily. I have repeatedly contacted the manufacturer (Case [REDACTED}, [REDACTED], [REDACTED]), and they are actively attempting to downplay this life-threatening defect as a minor warranty repair. I am formally refusing their inadequate “harness patch” and am reporting this so the CPSC can investigate the true scope of this defect before someone is severely injured or killed.

The product, in the report: DeWalt 21in 150cc Briggs & Stratton 625ex engine rear wheel drive 2 in 1 gas propelled walk behind Purchased in March of 2025 from home Depot sku# 1010599162
Jan. 1st (yesterday) I was cleaning up my yard, mowing a little bit. Not long after starting there was a loud pop and all of a sudden the mower bursted into flames. I was able to drag it to my driveway quickly and stomp the fire out thru my yard but the entire mower was inflamed and burned to the ground. I was extremely lucky that my place didn’t burn down down or myself got hurt

No one hurt Made Sep 15, 2024, sent to the company Sep 25, 2024, published by CPSC Oct 9, 2024
The product, in the report: Dewalt 2X20V Max XR Cordless RWD, Self-Propelled Mower
Dewalt 20v Max self-propelled mower - DCMWSP256. During normal operation of the mower, I started experiencing erratic responses from the mower (I.E. release handle and motor continues to run, blade motor not running until self propelled engaged and moving, self propel engaging when control for blade is engaged). When the mower stayed engaged after release of the power, I removed the batteries and inspected the entire unit. I found that the control cable leading from the motor to the handle, was pinched in between the handle bar and the handle bar rest. It created exposed wires that penetrated the protective housing. When lifting the handle up to reposition the back of the mower, it creates a gap in between the rest and handle bar, allowing the cable to become pinched. I checked to ensure all screws were tight and cable guide was installed as pictured in the manual. This issue is a product design flaw. I have reached out to Dewalt to request a refund.
