The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

The product, in the report: This is a consumer grade grass trimmer sold at Lowes. It’s one of the more expensive models.

I own a little-used Husqvarna 125L grass trimmer, which was purchased from Lowes in 2007 and while attempting to start it recently and ended up with gas splashed all over my hands. The cause immediately became evident when inspecting the special molded fuel pickup lines which were completely rotted and had leaked gas while attempting the starts up. I contacted Husqvarna after noting a similar CPSC recall on anther trimmer model and was told that the 125L is not part of the recall program. I was instructed to to repair the unit out of warranty and have it inspected by a dealer. This unit has been used less than a dozen or so times since it’s purchase and should not have failed in such a dangerous way. It’s clear that the materials being used are substandard (it’s made in China) and result in a risk of skin contamination and other hazards. Pressure needs to be applied to Husqvarna to improve the safety and quality of these products. It was also one of the more expensive units on the market and one would most certainly expect better quality.
