The product, in the report: Troy 10HP OHV chipper/shedder model 24A-424G766

I was using the Troy chipper/shredder model 24A-424G766 to chip up branches from just felled trees.I walked around to pick up some more branches when I heard a big bang and the chipper came to an abrupt stop. How could this happen when their was nothing in the chute.I tried to pull start it but it would not turn over. Then I preceded to take it apart to find out what was wrong. What I found out was the chipper ate its self. The pins that hold the fails in place had moved out releasing the fails to fly out. After checking similar machines, the model that I used did not have the saftey clips in place that lock the fail pins in place.I did find two of the fails that where expelled from the machine in the chipped pile. The dealer said the machine was off warranty and would not repair. The parts cost was to be about $800. After talking to the manufacturing company and them looking at the pictures he said it was a maintenance issue. Their is no mention in the manual for this. This model does not list the safety clips, only a latter model. I believe their should of been a recall for this machine to install the safety clips. Those fails flying out are very dangerous and could kill some one.
