The product, in the report: This powerful 6.5 HP gas powered chipper shredder quickly reduce piles of leaves and small branches to useful mulch. Four chipping and shredding hammers make short work of yard debris and branches up to 3 in. diameter. Dual action slicer cuts through the toughest branches Large side discharge port to prevent clogs Expanded hopper size for larger debris Expanded branch chute size fits large branches Large pneumatic wheels for all types of terrain Wheel brakes added for improved stability Low oil shutdown
The PREDATOR 6.5 HP (212cc) Chipper Shredder sold by Harbor Freight has a problem with the blade detaching from the engine shaft. It rotates at 1520-3620 RPM and comes apart when shredding limbs. I’ve had two units and it happened on both of them. Also read customer complaints with the same problem.

The product, in the report: wood chipper
The submitter is reporting the unit for posing a laceration hazard.
While he used the unit the mulch blade shattered and metal pieces flew everywhere. He had been using the unit for approximately 30 minutes, prior to the incident. He was not injured but fears he could have been and believes the unit should be recalled.
He took the unit apart and examined it. He believes the blade broke in half and he found holes on the exterior of the housing. He indicated that the motor still runs.
He contacted the retailer’s customer service and informed them of the incident. He was told that his unit is not recalled and they no longer offer parts for the unit.
The submitter purchased the unit used about three weeks ago and he said he has used it for about 30 - 40 hours.
He said he cleaned the engine after he purchased the unit. He said the reseller used the unit a handful of times.
