The product, in the report: Residential Wood Chipper-Shredder
I was using my DR Chipper XL Pro 520 chipper shredder, which has 14.6 hours on it. It was working fine, chipping small branches. Then I noticed flames around the base of the exhaust unit. The flames were coming up around the sides of this unit. I shut off the engine and the fuel supply and the flames died out. The color of the flames indicated burning fuel. NOT debris as the manufacturer is trying to suggest. There were no injuries in this incident. Fortunately the fire did not spread and there appears, at least externally, to be little or no permanent damage. But the fire danger here in the foothills of Colorado is extreme, and having equipment catch fire is alarming. This XL Pro 520 is a replacement for an XL Pro 501 which had three safety recalls.
