The product, in the report: Homelite UT-21506 Mightylight String Trimmer
Incident concerns a Homelite UT-21506 Mightylight String Trimmer. On 9/10/11 I attempted to use my trimmer and it would not start. I noticed that fuel had leaked out of the tank covering the engine of the trimmer, leaking onto the ground and my clothes. I found that both the fuel line to the carburetor and return line from the priming bulb had dissolved at the point where they both entered the fuel tank. It appeared that the return line had dislodged during priming and starting and was the source of the leaked fuel from the tank. When I was emptying the tank into a fuel can, the fuel line with the small filter at the end crumbled apart at the same point where it passes through the tank as the return line had done.
A replacement tank with fuel lines was ordered from the manufacturer on 9/10/11. It was on factory back order then and remains on factory back order now nearly a month later with no estimate of when it will be available.
It appears to me that the fuel lines used in this product cannot resist deterioration from the gas/oil mixture.
