The product, in the report: Black and Decker Hedge Trimmer TR016
I own a Black and Decker Hedge Trimmer Model TR016. Everytime I use it, I push the trigger to start the trimmer, but when I release the trigger the trimmer doesn’t stop. I have checked numerous times to make sure the trigger lock isn’t on, so it isn’t the trigger lock that is causing the issue. There have been many times I have used this trimmer, have released the trigger that powers the trimmer, and have set the trimmer down on the ground, and the trimmer continues to run, even though I released the power trigger many seconds previous. I have had this trimmer for several years, and didn’t know there was such a site to report unsafe products, or I would have reported it years ago. This is a very unsafe product, since the release of the power trigger doesn’t stop the trimmer from running.

Emergency room Made May 8, 2014, sent to the company May 15, 2014, published by CPSC May 30, 2014
The product, in the report: Black & Decker HT512 22-Inch 3.8 amp Dual Action Electric Hedge Trimmer
I was attempting to plug in a Black and Decker HT512 22” Hedge trimmer and it turned on.The power button was stuck in the on position and nearly cut off two of my fingers. After contacting Black and Decker I was told to take the trimmer to their service center for repair or replacement.I did not have a receipt and was told the trimmer has been discontinued.I was also told that there was debris in the power switch causing the unit to remain in the on position and was offered a replacement trimmer at 25% off the purchase price which is approximately the same price as a new trimmer at Home Depot.I examined the power switch and determined there is no way debris can get inside as it is an enclosed switch.

Black & Decker HT512 22-Inch 3.8 amp Dual Action Electric Hedge Trimmer
I believe these hedge trimmers may be a few years old, but they still appear to be brand new as they have only been used occasionally and have been stored indoors. I’m trying to hunt down the receipt to see when I bought them and if they are covered by warranty, but in the meanwhile I feel this is worthy of reporting to the CPSC as it is extremely dangerous.
The switch sticks in the on position and the only way to turn them off is by unplugging them.
In addition to the danger of the trimmers not being able to be turned off, merely trying to unplug electric trimmers while they are running is scary.

Hurt, care not known Made Mar 13, 2012, sent to the company Apr 5, 2012, published by CPSC Apr 19, 2012
The product, in the report: “Hedge Hog”- 24” (610mm) HEDGE TRIMMER
On the day of the incident, consumer plugged an extension cord into a power outlet, inside the house, and then uncoiled the cord as he carried it to a location near the gate. He returned to the house and got the hedge trimmer and carried it to the gate. He placed the trimmer onto the concrete then took the trimmer’s power cord in his left hand and the extension cord in his right hand. The consumer believed that the lock button was in the off position and that the trimmer was off, but the lock button and trigger were in the locked on position. He plugged the trimmer’s power cord into the extension cord and the trimmer suddenly and unexpectedly became energized. The consumer raised his right hand to protect his face from the reciprocating blade, the blade contacted his hand, and he was injured. The trimmer blades are sharp and as such create a cutting hazard. Black and Decker’s instructions and warnings were inadequate because they provide confusing information. In a diagram in their Instruction Manual for the hedge trimmer Black and Decker identifies the trigger and the lock button and do not refer to a “switch”. Black and Decker should have placed the warning on a label that was right on the power cord, near the plug. A warning in such a location would be located where the user’s attention was focused, when he was in danger of encountering the hazard.
