The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Silky Nata Hatchet

I was injured by a tool called a Silky Nata. This tool is sold with a scabbard that is unsafe. I was cut while attempting to remove the scabbard from my belt using the scabbard’s quick release buckle feature. The tool came out of its scabbard unexpectedly. The Nata scabbard quick release buckle is designed in such a way that if it is operated while the Nata handle is secured within the retention strap, a hazardous condition results. The secured retention snap results in the Nata being attached to the wearer’s belt. If the scabbard quick release is operated while the Nata handle is secured with the retention snap, the Nata is drawn out of the scabbard as the lower section of the scabbard separates from the upper section. I sustained a severe laceration to my hand that severed two tendons. This injury has required two surgeries to correct.
