The product, in the report: Red and black gasoline-powered residential zero-turn riding lawn mower. It features a gray high-back seat with red stripes and twin steering lap bars. The machine is equipped with a rear-mounted, twin-cylinder Kawasaki engine enclosed in a black plastic shroud.
On Friday, June 5, 2026, I was operating my Toro TimeCutter zero-turn mower (Model 75750, Serial 409972299) to cut my residential lawn. While mowing under normal operating conditions, a sudden, rapid fire erupted inside the rear engine compartment. The flames grew rapidly, and I narrowly escaped serious personal injury while evacuating the machine. I was forced to use a portable fire extinguisher to suppress the fire and prevent it from spreading further. The machine was highly maintained and had just received professional service, including a fresh oil filter change, on April 8, 2026 (as physically documented on the machine’s filter). Post-fire inspection reveals a catastrophic component safety failure. There is extensive melting, charring, and blistering on the electrical wiring harness and terminal boots immediately adjacent to the Kawasaki engine valve cover. Directly beneath these melted electrical components, there is a massive pool of unignited amber-colored engine fluid/fuel sitting on the red metal frame deck. The proximity of this fluid leak to a failing, overheating electrical component created an immediate and life-threatening fire hazard.

Hurt, no treatment Made Mar 8, 2017, sent to the company Mar 16, 2017, published by CPSC Mar 30, 2017
The product, in the report: Toro zero turn mower with steering wheel, 42 inch cut SW4200 riding mower
Toro zero turn mower sw4200 has a lever on the right side to raise and lower the cutting deck. The lever sticks up substantially and is just in front of the seat on the right. While fertilizing my grass the deck was raised so no mowing was occurring. I was pulling a fertilizer spreader behind me. on a hill the spreader tipped over and began to spill fertilizer. when I tried to jump off the right side of the mower (downhill side) to stop the spill my leg and pants got caught on the lever and I fell hard, injuring my shoulder and back. it is very difficult to exit this lawn mower on the right as this lever would stick up high even if the deck were set at cutting height. if you exit on the left side there is no problem but that cannot be done in all instances. if the lever were shorter and bent to the right to lower height it would eliminate this hazard

No one hurt Made Jan 4, 2016, sent to the company Mar 10, 2016, published by CPSC Mar 24, 2016
The product, in the report: Timecutter Riding Mower
The caller’s friend used the lawn mower with Toro Timecutter Twin Bagger System (Model # 79334) to clean up leaves from his yard. The leaves got caught up in the muffler (located in the rear of the mower). The lawn tractor caught on fire.
The caller’s friend had to jump off of the mower. He extinguished the fire with water.
The caller stated that if his friend did not smell the smoke then the fire could have spread to gas tank (near the muffler) and caused an explosion.
The caller stated that he does not know if the mower or the bag system was the issue in this incident but the fire occurred due to the leaves being caught in the muffler of the mower. Both, the tractor and bagger system are damaged.
The caller’s friend contacted Toro and spoke to [REDACTED] (1-800-348-2424). Someone from Affton Lawn Equipment came out to pick up the mower on 11/12/15 (Job # [REDACTED]). The caller’s friend was charged $35 to pick up the unit (one way). Toro sent out someone to inspect the unit at Affton Lawn Equipment. After inspection, the caller’s friend received a call from [REDACTED] (Toro) informing him that Toro will not cover any damages.
The caller contacted Toro and spoke to [REDACTED]. The caller wanted to know why the unit was not being repaired or covered by Toro when the unit is under warranty. The caller was not provided any reason/explanation. The caller demanded [REDACTED] to send information in writing as to why this damage would not be covered by Toro. The caller was informed that they will send out a letter to his friend (the owner of the mower).
The unit is under 1 year warranty.
The caller’s friend paid $2499 for the mower and $499 for the bag system (total $3211.25 with tax).
The mower is currently with Affton Lawn Equipment.
The caller has seen other report online involving these two products.
To Whom It May Concern:
The lawn mower and leaf bag that he purchased from Toro was under warranty. The lawn mower caught on fire under the back seat where the muffler was. The equipment is under warranty at the present time.
The callers called Toro five different times and talked to Toro Consumer Care rep [REDACTED], case #[REDACTED]. The callers finally received a letter with their explanation as to why Toro would not cover the repair costs for the lawn mower.
This lawn mower was bought to cut grass and also mulch leaves. A separate bag was also bought besides the lawn mower for the pickup of the leaves. The muffler is on the bottom of the seat of the lawn mower three inches from the ground with no protection to stop leaves getting around the muffler. The gas line is on top of the muffler leading to the gas tank. The gas line was burned and started the fire along with the leaves. The design that Toro has is not adequate for the operation of safely picking up the leaves.
Since this equipment was purchased and also sold to Mr. [REDACTED] for two purposes: one cutting the grass and one picking up the leaves. The leaf bag by itself cost $499.00. Why would Toro sell equipment that has the possibility of catching on fire and then not want to cover it even under warranty?
Thank you very much for your service to the public. Sincerely, [REDACTED]

No one hurt Made Apr 2, 2015, sent to the company Apr 10, 2015, published by CPSC Apr 24, 2015
The product, in the report: Zero Turn riding lawn mower, red.
My lawn mower caught fire as a result of the cutter pulley and cutter belt creating friction with dry grass that had accumulated between the pulley and the plastic guard pulley. The resulting fire was directly under the gas tank. If the gas tank or gas line was dripping any gas at all, there would likely have been an explosion resulting in serious injury.

The product, in the report: Toro LS 500 lawn tractor (riding lawn mower)
The consumer stated that when he would ride the lawn mower down hill it would freewill, having him loose control of the mower. When he would press the breaks they would lock and would be no traction. When the tractor lost control he steer it until the tractor stopped.
He continued using the mower and would not go downhill to prevent the incident from happening again. He contacted the manufacture and they would not assist him with the mower. He took the mower to the dealer and have them repair the mower. They replace the transmission and he no longer has the problem.
