  1. No one hurt

Made Jul 25, 2017, sent to the company Aug 8, 2017, published by CPSC Aug 22, 2017

The product, in the report: SCAG Cheetah Commercial Lawn Mower. The gasoline engine failure, a Kohler ECV 940 EFI, (PS-ECV-940-3013) Serial number - 4515300671.

SCAG Cheetah Commercial Lawn Mower. The gasoline engine failure, a Kohler ECV 940 EFI, (PS-ECV-940-3013) Serial number - 4515300671. After changing the engine oil, following the manufacturers owners manual, I started the engine and all of the crankcase oil went into the engine, and began burning. It created a white billowing cloud, and hot oil was spewing out the exhaust pipe onto the side wall of my shed. I took it to a local SCAG dealer, McGee Outdoor Equipment in Covington, La.985-892-4012 for repair. After much searching, the dealer determined that when the oil filter was replaced, at some point, THE OIL FILTER PRESSURE CUP WAS NOT SEATED PROPERLY. This caused the oil to blow out the exhaust, causing potential burn and fire hazard to me, as well as potential loss of the engine. NO WHERE, NO WHERE IN THE MANUAL, does it warn, state, or discuss this possibility. It cost me $227.67 to find this engine defect out.

My request is that it be further investigated, recalled if necessary, and at the very least, force Kohler to put out a maintenance bulletin to owners of this type engine. I contacted Kohler Engine Tech Service,[REDACTED], @ [REDACTED]. Waiting for an answer from Kohler.
