The product, in the report: 60” 26 HP v twin hydro-static zero turn lawn mower
My husband had been mowing for about 30 minutes and he did not realize it, but the lawn mower was on fire. The fire was behind where he was sitting on the Hustler Raptor so he was riding along mowing, not realizing the mower was on fire. The grass was dry with no rain so it caught fire. When he realized the mower was on fire, he had to bail off because the mower quickly became engulfed in flames. He called 911 and grabbed a fire extinguisher but the extinguisher was no match for the fire. I called the neighbors who then moved their livestock because the fire was spreading to their fence line. The fire department came and put the fire out. It was so dangerous because the fire was behind my husband so he had no idea the mower was burning and he was so fortunate to bail off without getting burned. The outcome could have been much worse. Afterwards, we found out that the Hustler mowers were recalled in 2019 due to fires but we were never notified and had no clue it was a fire danger.. I contacted Hustler and sent pictures and the fire report but I was told that the mower was no longer under warranty so they couldn’t help me

No one hurt Made Jun 3, 2019, sent to the company Jul 1, 2019, published by CPSC Jul 16, 2019
The product, in the report: Raptor SD zero turn mower manufactured by Hustler (Turf Equipment).
I own a Hustler brand of zero turn mower, a Raptor SD. The design of the fuel tank is such that once initially filled, after a minute or so, the tank is no longer full to the top as the fuel has migrated to an air pocket at the top of the tank and started filling it. You can repeat this process one or two times, adding additional fuel and then the tank is actually 100% full. However, the evaporative emission system employed on this mower will then siphon out a large amount of fuel out of the fuel tank and dump all of this fuel on the floor beneath the mower through the vent on the system. It is a large amount of fuel. It is fortunate that I do not have a gas hot water heater in my garage as the fumes from this large amount of fuel would certainly have ignited inside the closed garage. Dumping of the fuel is not readily noticed after filling the tank, but apparently starts some minutes later, after leaving the area. This needs a design remedy asap before a fire does happen with one of these mowers.

The product, in the report: hustler super z mower
Using Hustler superz 66 in less than one year old, found that one side of this mower was on fire, although attemps were made to extinguish the fire it was deemed to stand back and let it burn, as I also received burns totally lost my new machine this was two or so years ago and still no word or compensation I have in the past purchased at least six machines and still have two but will not be buying another one as a total let down by the company was experienced the word to my dealer was say nothing at all.

Not said Made Oct 10, 2016, sent to the company Oct 18, 2016, published by CPSC Nov 1, 2016
The product, in the report: Zero Turning Radius (ZTR) riding lawn mower. Yellow in color. Defective component is the black plastic grass catcher hood into which the mower deck’s discharge tube is inserted so materials are directed into the catcher bags.
The plastic grass catcher hood on Hustler’s 42 inch Raptor, Model 931741 (2014 model year), cracks along normal stress risers causing the hood to become improperly supported and flimsy. This allows the discharge chute to rapidly expel itself from the hood, fall, and drag along side the mower. The operator is not immediately aware of this condition, especially if wearing hearing protection. While the chute is falling and being dragged grass, rocks, and other objects can be discharged at a high velocity as projectiles that can cause injury or death to personnel and property damage.
According to my dealer, Hustler is aware of the problem, but will not replace the hood at no charge with an allegedly re-designed part.

The product, in the report: Lawn Mower, Commercial Grade, Zero Turn,
Hustler X-one commercial grade Zero Turn Mower. Gas tank Vent seal split leaking and spraying fuel on driver and Motor. This seal was replaced by dealer in 2012 under a previous recall. I reported this event to Dealer and they said it wasn’t a covered fix by Warranty or the safety recall. They would sell me the part and I could repair it myself. There was no damage from use to this mower prior to this incident, it has only 80 hours of use since purchased and only at my home. This is a very real Fire and safety hazard and obviously a defect in materials and/or Design.
