The product, in the report: Husqvarna (orange) riding mower, model # LGT2654
Husqvarna riding lawn mower, Model LGT2654, frame braking leaving the transmission and rear axle unsecured potentially causing serious injury to the rider. The subject riding mowers and it was starting to not run properly. Upon investigating the problem, I discovered the portion of the frame securing the rear axle and transmission completely broken off on one side of the mower with the axle pushed approximately one inch forward. The other side of the mower frame securing the rear axle and transmission was 60% broken through. Upon calling two Husqvarna dealers, one of which told me they dropped Husqvarna partly because of this problem, I was told that the frame braking was a common problem on these mowers, and that they regularly have them in their shops for frame repairs. I called Husqvarna and all they would do is sell me a repair frame repair kit for $50. I purchased the repair kit and took the riding mower to an independent shop for repair. The independent shop also confirmed that they have repaired a number of these mowers for the same problem. This is a very serious flaw in the design of these riding mowers and Husqvarna has done nothing but turn their backs on it other than to sell a repair kit. These Husqvarna riding mowers should be recalled for repair before someone is seriously injured or killed. Additionally, consumers should not have to pay for the repair of defective products that should be recalled. Husqvarna does not acknowledge that there is a problem with frame of these riding mowers, yet they do sell a frame repair kit for them. I strongly recommend that you contact a couple dealer service departments to investigate this matter. The dealer service departments I spoke to were [REDACTED] and [REDACTED].

Hurt, care not known Made Aug 29, 2024, sent to the company Oct 8, 2024, published by CPSC Oct 23, 2024
The product, in the report: Riding lawn mower w/ 36” cutting deck underneath
The consumer was driving on a hill, around his yard, when the steering wheel broke into 3 pieces. Each piece broke on-at-a-time, and he was able to stop the tractor with getting injured.
His service dealer told him that there is a high demand for steering wheels on this company’s lawn tractors.
A dealer had a steering wheel for a tractor who motor had burned up and they sold him that steering wheel for $20. They were not sure if or when they would be able to get a replacement steering wheel directly from the manufacturer.
Based on what he learned, the consumer said the manufacturer may potentially have a large problem on their hand.

No one hurt Made May 1, 2024, sent to the company May 7, 2024, published by CPSC May 21, 2024
The product, in the report: Husqvarna TS 142K 42” riding lawn mower with manual PTO engagement. PTO (power take off) is the device that activates the mower blades to spin. It’s operated by a cable linkage mechanism.
I purchased a new Husqvarna TS 142K riding lawn mower. I went to operate the mower and the PTO (power take off) lever seemed stuck. I went to check the operation of the PTO under the dashboard and noticed the linkage was hitting the ignition harness and rubbing against. This will rub through eventually and break the wires and cause a short circuit, possibly a fire.

No one hurt Made May 22, 2023, sent to the company May 24, 2023, published by CPSC Jun 8, 2023
The product, in the report: Orange Husqvarna ride on mower model number TS 242XD, 42 inch mower deck with 2 mower blades, with a 2 cylinder Kawasaki gasoline engine, 567 pounds per manufacture, not including the grass catcher/bagger attachement also installed on the mower. Right side grass discharge. Manufacturer product number 96043030700
I was operating a Husqvarna self-propelled ride on mower, model number TS242XD with a 2 cylinder Kawasaki gasoline engine, mowing 6 inch grass on a slight grade of 2-3 degrees. The mower suddenly stopped moving forward, despite the engine running and the forward drive pedal being depressed. The mower started rolling backward, but would not stop despite the brake pedal being fully depressed. The mower blades were still running. The forward drive pedal briefly worked again, and I was able to drive the mower another 60-70 feet, and it stopped working completely. The brake pedal also stopped working completely. The machine was purchased in 2021; I’ve owned it for about 25 months. I’m a 55 year old adult male who has operated various ride-on lawnmowers for over 40 years; my weight is about 200 pounds.
After removing the mower deck, inspecting the under side of the mower, and consulting with the retail dealer who sold me the product, the left rear metal frame failed due to what appears to be separation of the frame’s spot welds, deformation of the frame (the metal frame was visibly bent near the left rear wheel), and visible bending of the left support bracket attacked to the hydrostatic drive. There also appears to be some visible frame deformation near the right real wheel as well. Effectively the hydrostatic drive had moved closer to the engine, resulting in a loss of drive belt tension and failure of both forward and reverse drive pedals to function, and total loss of braking power due to slack in the linkage to the hydrostatic drive’s built-in brake.
Complete loss of all operator and braking power on a 567 pound mower created an extremely dangerous and potentially lethal situation. While no one was injured, the machine did roll backwards uncontrolled on the slight grade until it reached level ground. The manufacturer rates the machine for up slope/down slope operation up to slopes of 15 degrees. Had this failure occurred on a slope of even 7 or 8 degrees, the mower would have accelerated to dangerous speeds in seconds. There is no other way to brake or slow the mower. Injury or death to adults or children from rotating mower blades, collision, or rollover of the 567 pound mower could easily result.
When I discussed the specifics of the incident with the retailer/repair shop who sold me the mower 2 years ago, and examined a new mower for comparison to determine what was causing the malfunction, I remarked that the hydrostatic drive appeared to have moved towards the front of the mower. The rear wheels were closer to the mower deck supports on my mower than the brand new mower. The mechanic then told me to examine the metal frame just above the rear wheels to see of the frame metal had failed. That is exactly what I confirmed visually on my mower. It was clear from the mechanic’s comments that this is an issue this particular mower had before. Having operated similar mowers with almost identical designs ([REDACTED]), the metal frame on the Husqvarna model TS242XD does not appear to be as heavy a gauge, and there is other visible bending on the frame where the grass catcher bag assembly attaches as well. This indicated poor engineering. This is a part of the machine that should NEVER fail, given the extremely dangerous situation of having a 567 pound vehicle moving without and propulsion or braking control.
The machine and frame are still under warranty, but the design flaw of an insufficiently engineered frame unable to withstand normal use without failing means the potential hazard is just waiting to happen again even if this machine is repaired, unless it is repaired with a stronger, upgrades frame. There are also thousands of other identical mowers out there with the same design flaw that could result in injury or death if the rear frame fails in the same manner.
Just to be clear, this mower has only been used under normal operating conditions specified within the manufacturer’s operating manuals, residential use only. It has about 127 hours of run time indicated on the control panel. It has been garaged, and maintained according to the manufacturer’s timetable for oil changes and other adjustments.

The product, in the report: This is a zero turn mower for large estates
I just purchased a Husqavarna Z254f. This is a large zero turn mover and I expected to be able to add the rollover protection. They offer many models and it seems all their other models have this option. The part number for the kit is 539115163. I am now told the part is discontinued and is not going to be replaced. If that is the case then they should not be allowed to sell this model as a roll over from any large equipment is a concern. This is not a discontinued model and since they offer a ROPS for all other models I need to know why they think this one will not roll.

The product, in the report: Husqvarna LGT 24K54-24047 riding lawnmower
This report is for a 2011 Husqvarna LGT24K54-24047 riding lawn mower. This mower has a plastic 4 gallon gas tank which is cracking and leaking. The tank is clearly disintegrating and the mower cannot be used. Husqvarna, per my phone call with their customer service line today 04/29/2019, was pleasant but unwilling to offer any assistance.
This is a serious safety hazard for anyone filling or starting this tractor. Any source of ignition would result in a probable injury.
The part number for this gas tank has been changed twice, indicating to me that Husqvarna is aware at some level that they have knowledge that this is a failed and defective product.
Husqvarna should recall and repair the tractors effected.

The product, in the report: 46 inch riding lawn mower
Hi I have a 46 inch riding lawn mower which I bought new in June of 2014. today when I was mowing the mower deck fell. I stopped the mower and looked and a weld holding the deck up had broke. now I have had a lot of mowers most of the cheap ones but I have never had a weld break on one. the last one I had for 16 years it was a yard machine and I only had to replace blades. belts and pulleys. never ever had a weld fail. I though I was moving a step up by buying a Husqvarna but maybe not. is this common for your equipment. Model # YTH22V46 SERIAL # 021014D016373

No one hurt Made Oct 22, 2018, sent to the company Oct 31, 2018, published by CPSC Nov 15, 2018
The product, in the report: Husqvarna 54” Garden Tractor Model #LGT26K54
On 03/12/2012 my husband and I bought a Husqvarna riding lawn mower. It had issues from the beginning. Many times when you would start it, it would spit and sputter and throw out black smoke. If you let it do this for about 3-4 minutes, it would come out of it. Occasionally, it would do this while you were mowing, You would have to stop and let it spit and sputter until it was done, and then it would run fine. We took the lawn mower in to a repair shop several times, only to be told there was nothing wrong with it.
On 10/3/2018, I mowed my yard. I had to stop and pick something up in the yard. I turned the mower off, got off and picked up my mums. When I got back on the mower, it wouldn’t start. This was not the first time this had happened. Most of the time, I would sit on the mower and wait it out because after a few minutes it would start. This day, I decided to go inside and check the time and get me something to drink. I came inside and grabbed a cup to put ice in and I heard a big BOOM! I thought someone had hit something such as a telephone pole because it was so loud. I looked out and my mower was engulfed in flames. Flames were 20-25 feet in the air. I had neighbors stop by because they thought my house was on fire, because the flames were so tall and the smoke was so black. Thank goodness, I didn’t stay on the mower. It would have killed me. It just so happened it quit at the end of my driveway. Otherwise, if I had parked by my house, or in my garage, they too would have caught fire. On 10/4/2018, I called Husqvarna and reported what happened. They had me send pictures and were supposed to get back with me, which they never did. The gentleman I spoke with told me it wasn’t under warranty since it was 6 years old. Regardless of the age, it should not have blown up like it did. I have since called them back 2 more times. Each time I am promised a callback, but they never call back. I still have the burned up mower sitting in my yard.

The product, in the report: Husqvarna / YTA24V48 RIDING LAWN MOWER
I purchased a Husqvarna Riding Mower Model YTA24V48 last summer. However, there is a dangerous issue with the seat: It is very slippery. Whenever anyone tries to mow on a side hill, they slide out of the seat on to the ground while the mower is running.

The product, in the report: Husqvarna YTH2348 Riding Lawn Mower / Tuff Torq K46BT Axle
Rear axle jerking and slipping, lost control on a hill. Did not get hurt thank goodness. Checking the broken part that fell off, found numerous issues. The rear axle was loose from the upper bracket bolts gone. This allowed rear axle twisting the frame holes were cracked. This also allowed the drive belt to slack or tighten in motion. The belt did come off while on an incline and broke some parts before I got stopped at the bottom.
This is a dangerous mover and needed to be recalled. I was never notified of a recall or warned of an issue. Why?
Took my money and info when I purchased, why no notification? Should buy this junk back, before someone gets hurt!

The product, in the report: Riding Lawnmower
This caller purchased his riding mower from Lowes in Virginia in June 2014. Around May/June 2015 the caller was driving the mower with the blades engaged when the left blade from the driver flew off and almost hit his wife.
He re-attached the blade assuming this incident occurred due to human error when being originally assembled.
He made sure that the blade was this time tightly attached.
He was backing up with blades not engaged on Friday, February 12th, 2016 when the same left blade dropped to the ground.
He is reporting these incidents due to this being a fairly new product (only 80 total hours on unit) and to report a potentially severe laceration injury hazard.
There are no injuries being reported.
The caller contacted the place of purchase on Saturday, February 13th, 2016 and it was picked up Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016 with advisement to the caller that it would be taken to a Husqvarna dealer for repair.

This is the third time I have written in this box. each time when I continue to the next page I get a notice that this page is unavailable. It also does not save my information even though I push that button. On Aug 7th 2010 I purchased a Husqvarna lawn mower. On July 17th I had to take it to the shop because it was leaking gasoline into the oil. Husqvarna did not honor their warranty which was in effect. On July 17th 2015 while mowing my mower backfired and then burned up singing my arm and hand. Husqvarna could give a crap about their products and I have gotten no where with them about this fire problem.

While cutting the grass approximately 3 acres cutting around a shrub forward and back motion mower would not move. All of a sudden front end of mower burst in to flames. My grandson who was operating it at the time ran to get some buckets of water because the hose was to far away. Mean while the plastic housing cover caught fire and melted. After we put the fire out with water buckets, it looks as though the fire started at the carburetor as a backfire with maybe a flooded area of fuel inside.

I was sitting on the machine when the grille of the machine caught fire. I was wearing welding gloves so I tired to turn off the machine. When I saw that the fire continued, I then got off the machine and proceeded to grab a fire extinguisher. I extinguished the fire.

The gas tank has a very slow fuel leak due to cracks that appear to be the result of a manufacturing defect. Since the machine is kept indoors, this leak is a fire or explosion hazard aggravated by the fact that it took several weeks to find it. The leaking cracks are at the bottom of the gas tank; but, at the top of the tank, there is a set of cracks similar to those at the bottom. The attached pictures show those top cracks where you can see how easy it is for gasoline to leak out if those cracks are at the bottom. This defect should be corrected as soon as possible and in the meantime other users of this product should be warned to look for fuel leaks especially if they detect gasoline odor coming from the machine in an enclosed area. Approximately a week ago (early July 2015), I contacted Husqvarna at 704-597-5000 where a spoke with a person called [REDACTED]. I asked [REDACTED] to report this hazard through his internal channels but he did not sound interested at all

The product, in the report: Riding lawn mower
The rear frame of my Husqvarna riding lawn mower cracked where the hydrostatic drive is mounted. This time the only thing that happened was the drive belt was thrown off preventing the tractor from moving under it’s own power. If this did not occur and the tractor was used several more times the frame could have actually broken and allowed the rear wheels and hydrostatic drive unit to separate from the rest of the mower. The operator would have lost control of the brakes, and drive speed/direction. The root cause of this problem was the two bolts through the cross member in front of the hydrostatic drive that go into the top of the drive the threads were stripped out allowing the drive to move vertically. The verticle movement over stressed the mounts on the outside of the frame causing cracks along the retaining bolts.

While using the Husqvarna riding mower, on several occasions, grass collected on the guard that shields the exhaust system from damage. The hot exhaust started the grass on fine in a position that is fairly close to the gasoline system. In either case, the smoke alerted me to the fire which could have also started any dry grass in the area on fire.

The product, in the report: Riding Lawn Mower, 48 inch cut, with a Briggs and Stratton 24 hp engine ELS
I have a Husqvarna Lawn Tractor YTH2448 with a 24HP ELS Briggs and Stratton engine. On July 21 as I was cutting my lawn, the lawn tractor/mower went up in flames and burned to nothing but metal. Nobody was hurt in the incident, but I had to call the fire department since the lawn mower was under a tree and very near a playhouse when it started on fire.
The lawn mower was purchased at Sears in Appleton, WI circa 2004.
I am curious to know if there have been other complaints about this make and model starting on fire.

The product, in the report: Husqvarna 54” Zero Turn Mower
On 07-04-13 at 1235hrs, my brand new Husqvarna 54” Zero Turn Mower CAUGHT FIRE while my 18 year old son was riding it. I purchased it from Power Equipment Direct via the internet in late June. The mower was on back order and arrived at my home on 07-02-13. On 07-04-13 at 1145hrs, I started the mower and used it for approx. 20 minutes to cut the backyard without problems. I then took a break. At 1235hrs, my son started the mower and began to cut the front yard. He had the mower running for approx. 1 minute when the engine cut off. When he turned to his right to restart the mower, the mower was on fire under the gas tank. He jumped off and ran into the house to get me. I ran outside and saw flames coming from under the gas tank on the right side of the mower. I used a hose to put out the fire. I examined the mower and could see that the battery meter was completely melted. The melting plastic dripped down, landed on the frame under the gas tank and continued to burn. I called Power Equipment Direct and a recorded msg. stated the company was closed until Monday 07-08-13. I then called Husqvarna customer support and spoke with [REDACTED] (no last name or employee # was given). After telling him my brand new mower caught fire, [REDACTED] directed me to find an authorized Husqvarna service center and take it to the service center to get it fixed. I told [REDACTED] I think this is an emergency case since the mower caught fire while my son was on it but his only solution was to give me the name of a service center in my area. In my opinion, [REDACTED] had little interest in the fact that a brand new Husqvarna mower caught fire while someone was riding it. The Mower is a 54” Zero Turn, Model #RZ5424, Serial #040513C002310, Product # 967003701 02.

Model YTH20K46 Husqvarna Lawn Tractor (purchased about June 2008) - plastic gas tank developed large stress fractures at top and bottom of tank where it was ejected from the mold-injection manufacture. The fuel began leaking while the machine was being operated but I did not know it. The remaining tank of fuel leaked into my garage and fumes eventually infiltrated my home; the dog was in the garage too, although he did not die. Tractor requires either repair or replacement. I bought a new Husqvarna Model #RZ4623 zero turn riding mower on 3/19/2011 from Lowe’s in Hamilton, Ohio 45013. Ever since new it has left burned (dead) grass under the muffler if I am sitting still with the motor running for aproximately 5-10 seconds. It has started a grass fire once just recently. I am afraid this could start a bad fire if the mower is stopped and left running. I have to stop several times during mowing to remove objects in my way, this is a normal routine. I have not seen anything happen like this with any other mower. The muffler should be repositioned or have a more efficient shield. Thank You
