The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. First aid

Made May 6, 2025, sent to the company May 9, 2025, published by CPSC May 23, 2025

The product, in the report: Greenworks CRZ 428, Zero turn battery operated mower.

I have a Greenworks CRZ 528 zero radius 80V battery operated mower. It has no brakes, no way to slow it down. It has park, forward and reverse. We cleared more land and now I have a slope that needs mowing. I was mowing down that slope and the mower increased in speed, so I pulled back the handles to put it in reverse to slow it down, but that did nothing to decrease the speed. I crashed into the tree and that thru me into the tree injuring my right knee. I am 75 years old I was lucky that I did not break any bones. I have a black and blue swollen up knee that hurts to walk with and many other sore body parts. After the accident I noticed that the unit does not even come with a seat belt. Now after the wreck I noticed that the mower no longer will shut down when I turn the key off. So now it needs to go to the shop but the only phone number I have (888-909-6757) is no longer working. Now the only way to shut it down is to remove all 6 batteries, only then will the unit shut down. It is not safe for it not to shut off, in that condition (turned off with no key in it) it will move and mow. Some little kid could climb on it and play moving the handle bars and it would move. The bars are very easy to move, to drive the unit and the mower blades can be activated by pulling up on the button. I don’t want to see my grandkids injured or God for bid missing fingers or other body parts. I have a 5 year warranty and no company to fix it. I paid over $9,000 for the unit I should have some way of contacting the company to get it fixed.
