The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Ferris Pro-S, 3 wheel, 61” Lawn Mower with 27 Hp Briggs and Stratton Engine

Ferris Industries (Owned by Briggs and Stratton) manufactured some Pro-S riding mowers that were fitted with Briggs and Stratton engines that did not have a flywheel guard installed. All other mowers manufactured by Ferris had the guard insdtalled. The lack of a guard allows the operator to place a hand or foot on the rotating assembly and injuring the hand or foot, I injured my hand because there was no guard and no warning labels. I have had extensive contact with both Ferris and Briggs and Stratton and each blames the other fo the lack of a guard - neither will resolve the issue.

The product, in the report: Ferris riding lawn mower (Modei1S700, Serial# 2016754908)

I am an attorney and represent an Individual who suffered injuries to his back. My client purchased a Ferris riding lawn mower (Model IS700, Serial# 2016754908) in July of 2014. The machine was new and purchased from a Ferris dealer. On August 6, 2016 my client was mowing a straight, level section of lawn and the right rear axle broke, sending the machine into a tight right hand turn and wrenching my client’s back. The machine was regularly maintained, had only 85 hours of use and there were no signs of the impending failure. I have since learned that there is a recall of a [REDACTED] riding mower based upon failure of the drive axle. As both Ferris and [REDACTED] are [REDACTED] companies, I am curious as to whether there is any connection between the failure of my client’s mower and the Snapper failures.

The product, in the report: Ferris 5100Z Zero Turn Mower. 33.5 horsepower

I purchased a Ferris 5100 Zero-Turn Mower approximately 5 years ago. During this time, I have experienced multiple events where the suspension bolts on the mower sever while using the mower, thus causing the steering mechanisms to fail while using the mower. This failure could result in serious injury up to and including a fatality. I have reported this issue to Briggs and Stratton (Parent of Ferris). They have recognized this engineering failure and have developed a fix for this issue. Unfortunately I have experienced multiple repair events that have been quite costly. Ferris agreed to pay for the parts but refused to pay for the labor. This labor charge is much higher than the parts. I feel that a Product Recall should be considered to ensure that all 5100’s are repaired so that a mechanal failure would prevent a serious injury to the consumer. I have filed complaints with the State of GA and State of WI. Both states requested a review by Briggs. I have not received any response from the company (over 60 day) since my first complaint. In my mind they are ignoring a huge safety issue that needs immediate resolution. I am attaching the vaious communications I have had with this company.
