The product, in the report: Riding Lawnmower 23 horsepower motor
Caller purchased a 23 horsepower riding lawnmower on August 23rd, 2005 and had no problems with it at all until August 2012 when she had been cutting grass for around fifteen minutes then saw flames approximately one foot high coming from the back of the lawnmower. She jumped off of the lawnmower and turned it off.
She yelled for her son who came with a neighbor and the two of them extinguished the flames.
Consumer contacted manufacturer August 2012 and was advised that the lawnmower was not under warranty and that they weren’t going to assist her because it is 7-8 years old.
The consumer states that because it is 7-8 years old, cost over nine thousand dollars, she has seen other lawnmowers recalled for this same safety issue. She is asking that her lawnmower be considered for recall with repair at manufacturer expense.
No injuries being reported
UPDATE: Consumer would like to add that the mower was for her home only- that is why she feels it should have lasted longer.
