The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: On May 23, 2020, I purchased Arnold Multi-Tool Item #526356 Model #490-240-0009 , web site: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Arnold-Multi-Tool/50056447 It is a plastic stop valve for use on a riding mower from the Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Bee Cave, Texas. This product’s manufacturer is Arnold Products, apparently a division or subsidiary of MTD Products (mtdproducts.com).

On May 23, 2020, I purchased Arnold Multi-Tool Item #526356 Model #490-240-0009 , a plastic stop valve for use on a riding mower from the Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Bee Cave, Texas. This product’s manufacturer is Arnold Products, apparently a division or subsidiary of MTD Products (mtdproducts.com). Today (June 4, 2020), I installed the valve for it’s intended an advertised use, on a 1/4-inch ID gas line between the gas tank and the carburetor of my riding lawnmower. After mowing the lawn and parking the lawnmower, I noticed a growing pool of gasoline below the valve on my garage floor, and discovered that the “guts” were missing, leaving just the black housing, and allowing gasoline to flow unimpeded out of the line. Approximately three gallons from the full tank was discharged, onto my lawn, and onto my garage floor and onto the area of the hot engine exhaust. No injury or damage to property occurred (though I am not sure that damage to landscaping would have shown up by now). Oh, and Home Depot refused to issue a refund without my entering their store, which is ill-advised because of my medical condition and risk factors for Covid 19. My concern is that it could have --- and may have already -- turned out a lot worse for somebody else. I am willing to provide the remains of the defective valve to the CPSC (the guts are lost in my lawn) or the manufacturer for inspection and to address this apparent defect.
