The product, in the report: Ariens 60” zero turn mower
I was cutting grass on my 60” Ariens zero turn mower for about one hour without incident and stopped to take a break. I returned within 5 minutes to find the machine fully engulfed in flames. The machine was turned off at the time and spontaneously erupted into flames. I was able to extinguish the flames without assistance but the machine was deemed a total loss. I purchased the machine approximately 5 years ago and have had annual maintenance performed on the machine by an Ariens dealer. I contacted both the local Ariens dealer and the Ariens corporate office informing them of the incident and requesting compensation for my loss. Ariens denied the request. Ariens has been unable to provide me an adequate reason for the the machine to spontaneously erupt into flames destroying the machine and putting me at risk for further property damage and personal injury.

The product, in the report: Ariens Riding Lawn Mower, Model 960460056-01. Kept smelling a strong fuel smell around mower. Upon looking under dash where fuel tank is located, the rubber grommet or bushing in fuel for fuel outlet is wet and loose. The bottom of the tank on the mower was bowed down in the center of bottom of tank. Mower operates fine, but strong fuel odor persists. The tank seems to made of a thin gauge of plastic, to thin in my opinion. The fuel tank is part number 21547650. I This mower was produced for Ariens by Husqvarna Group

The product, in the report: Arien’s 30” 12.5 HP Gear 2013 riding lawn mower
On May 6, 2013 I took possession of a new Arien’s 30” cut riding lawn mower. It performed fine for about 11 weeks but then the neutral gear would not stay locked. With motor running, neutralgear caused the mower to go forward. I contacted Home Depot and they gave me a work order for the mower to be picked up and taken to Home Depot’s designated repair facility. July 18th,Thursday, the repair man came to pick up the mower. I directed him to my utility building, he started the mower, put it in reverse gear to back it out and it went forward. Now this is a small space and if he had not acted quickly it would have possibly taken out the wall of my utility building. With my assistance we manually pushed the mower out of the building. This man also told me that he had picked up 5 other Ariens’ mowers for repair the previous week from another Home Depot. He gave me no paper work and took it to Lanier Outdoor Equipment Company, phone 678-482-4405. The following Tuesday 7-23-131 called regarding progress of repair and they advised me it would be 1 1/2 weeks before they could get to it. This mower was used primarily for mowing my lawn. The reason Iam filing this report is that has the potential to cause injury related to the unreliable gear shift. Also, if 5 other mowers of this type and brand were in for repair I find that curious if there may be a common thread to my complaint.

The product, in the report: Ride on O Turn Mower
Caller was mowing his land today and when he came to a stop, disengaged blade and started to step off but then noticed that the dicharge chute was missing. His foot was within possibley an inch or two from stepping in hole with spinning blade. He pulled his foot back up and got off mower on the opposite side. Caller states that some of his grandchildren cut his grass with this mower sometimes to mow his yard and if this had happened while they were on the mower they may not have noticed the problem that had occurred while mowing.
