The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Hose, garden hoses

Caller stated that the hydroTech hose was included in the recall, she returned it and purchased another, she had replacements 3 times and they all failed. She stated that the hoses she has in her possession does not have codes and therefore are recalled. Caller stated that the company is refusing to give her a refund. Caller feels that the company is sending out recalled products to consumers. Caller stated that the retailer offered to give her a refund so she will be returning the hose to them.

Target gave me a refund on the 2nd hose purchased. (The first was recalled + returned and the 2nd I have discovered is old recalled inventory, so I returned it because manufacturer refused to refund me. I have emailed proof. Then, after the 2nd purchase it failed + they sent me a replacement. That too failed and they sent me yet another replacement. That failed and burst. i was lucky I was not hurt badly. They refused to refund me. Target did, and one of these last 3 hoses was returned. i have two recalled hoses in my possession.

The product, in the report: HydroTech Burst Proof Expandable Garden Hose - Water Hose, 5/8 in Dia. x 100 ft.

I purchased a HydroTech 5/8-inch Expandable Burst-Proof Garden Hose from Walmart on March 24, 2026. On September 3, 2026, while the hose was connected to the outdoor faucet and under normal water pressure, the end fitting suddenly separated from the hose. We heard the failure from inside the house and discovered that water was running freely outside. The yellow connector had completely separated from the black hose-end assembly.

After the incident, I discovered that this product had been recalled by the CPSC on July 24, 2025 because of a bursting hazard. I checked my hose for the identifying date code described in the recall information and found no date code. I have the hose pieces, the packaging and photographs of the separated connector and hose-end assembly and proof of my Walmart purchase dated March 24, 2026.

I am reporting this because Walmart sold me this hose approximately eight months after the recall was announced, and the hose subsequently experienced a sudden failure consistent with the safety concern that led me to discover the recall. No one was injured.

The product, in the report: Burst #1: Hydrotech Expandable Burst-Proof 50 foot hose - I no longer have the details of this product because I sent them to Hydrotech when I submitted my claim. The claim was submitted on their site and I didn’t keep a screenshot. Burst #2: Hydrotech Standard Expandable Burst-Proof 75 foot hose

We purchased a Hydrotech expandable hose about two years ago that worked very well but was recalled because of possible bursting. I followed Hydrotech’s instructions and received a 50 ft replacement hose. It burst with the very first use. The powerful stream from the burst hit me mid face knocking my glasses up into my hat which blew off. I had a strap holding the glassed to my head. I was not hurt and nothing but the hose was broken. I had registered each hose with Hydrotech so, once again, I filed a warranty statement. Shortly after they sent me a 75 foot replacement hose. It also burst on first use. We have lived in this home for over eight years with no similar instances with any of other several other hoses. Our water pressure is normal as directed by our regional water provider. We are in our 70’s and have never had this happen before, anywhere with any other watering devices.

The product, in the report: Expandable Butstproof Hose

At Home Depot on 7/2/25 I bought a Hydrotech 5/8 inch Expandable Burst Proof Hose (100 foot) for $82.64. After storing it properly indoors for the winter, I found that it had spontaneously broken near the faucet connection & is totally useless. I have asked the manufacturer for help, but no help has been offered. Subsequently I learned that such hoses, manufactured before 8/3/25 were recalled for the same problem. My serial number didnt match the recall list, but I think it should be added.

The product, in the report: Hydrotech 5/8” diameter 50’ expandable burstproof garden water hose

Bought a Hydrotech 50’ 3/4” diameter expandable garden hose for use around the house. First time it worked great. Second time the end holding the sprayer I’d attached blew off in my hand with a sound like a gunshot. Everything went quiet for about 15 seconds, then my hearing came back with a terrible ringing. It persisted, so I saw an ENT specialist 4 days later. Eardrums were intact, but audiology testing revealed some new mild low frequency hearing loss. (I wear hearing aids, and had prior testing less than one year before for comparison.) She said it was probably due to the explosive sound so close to my head, and would likely be permanent. Fortunately, the ringing subsided after about two weeks. Who would have thought one could damage their hearing with a garden hose? I had read the instructions on the packaging before using it, and was operating the hose according to those. I see a similar report on this product where the end blew off, so know this is not an isolated incident.

I was using a brand new, never used HydroTech 5/8” x 50 ft Expandable Garden Hose I bought from Walmart. I was using it to spray [REDACTED] on my sidewalk when water pressure stated to suddenly drop. I set the hose down to see if it had kinked. I then saw the sheath slipping as the rubber inside exposed and started to blow up like a tubular ballon. Since I was closer to the spicket I went to it and started to quickly turning off the water and as I was doing so the hose exploded wacking me near the knee!! It was a brand new hose used less than 5 minutes!!! Im so glad my 93 y/o mother, who I bought it for to water plants, wasnt using it!! I brought it back to Walmart, showed them what happened and recommended that they not sell them.

The product, in the report: Expandable Garden Hose

I had purchased a HydroTech 5/8” x 50 ft Expandable Garden Hose from Walmart about 3 weeks prior to the incident. While I was holding the spray nozzle in one hand, I turned on the water faucet. Rather suddenly, the plastic surrounding the nozzle end snapped as the inner lining of hose broke through and burst like a water balloon. A piece of the plastic firmly struck my arm which caused a one inch bruise. My concern in reporting this is that someone could suffer a serious injury such as the loss of an eye.

The product, in the report: HydroTech 8988C4 Burst Proof Expandable Garden Hose Water Hose 5/8 in Dia. x 25 ft. - Blue

This was a new burst proof hose bought on June 2 that burst while in use on July 20. Not only are they making false claims about the quality of their product but it also broke my sliding glass door. I feel lucky that I was able to react so quickly as I feel it could have been much worse.

I was using the hose to water some plants. I turned it off at the included close valve and placed it on then ground for a moment to speak to friend. While standing nearby conversing we heard an odd noise. I looked over and the black plastic valve end had cracked separating into two pieces. What can only be described as large blue tumor resembling a water balloon began growing from side of hose. We both knew what was going to happen so I ran back towards the house spigot but didnt make it before the hose burst. It sounded like a gun shoot it was so loud. The hose flew back and shattered the slider door.

I was using a Hydrotech garden hose to water my flowers . I had a nozzle attached to the end of the hose. I stopped the water flow at the nozzle at the end of the hose . I placed the hose with nozzle attached between my forearm and my body, for about five seconds and it exploded. I suffered cuts and abrasions, on my torso and right forearm and my ears rang for several minutes after. Apparently, the rubber liner on the inside of the hose exploded, breaking the plastic twist cap attachment .
