The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: garden hose

I purchased the Flex Able Hose from Walmart in Huntington Beach, CA Talbert Ave I attached a sprayer nozzle to the hose and turned on the water in my front yard. The hose started to fill with water when the green fabric that is on the outside of the hose tore from the plastic fitting and started to fill with water like a long water balloon. When I saw that, I bent down to turn off the water at the spigot when the balloon exploded in my face burning and cutting my right cheek to my chin and my left upper cheek bone.

The product, in the report: Flexible~hose By TRISTAR PRODUCTS INC. 50FT

We purchased 2x 50 ft Flexible~hose (by tristar products) from Walmart. Upon hooking one up to a water source, the end of the hose (attached by compression fitting) shot off the end of the hose with TREMENDOUS FORCE! As a father of four, I am glad it ricocheted and hit me, and not one of my kids. One inch higher, and I would have lost an eye. All I can say is the force behind the flying projectile was tremendous, as I can imagine taking a lighter blow from a professional boxer. This product is for a lack of better words ... DANGEROUS! ( I have taken detailed pictures of the hose and fitting)

The product, in the report: Flexible Hose

Flexible Hose by TriStar Products Inc. - Caller purchased, said it is so lightweight that a child or elderly person can use this hose.

Caller was using the hoses that she purchased with the two hooked together to obtain 50ft rather than 25ft. She finished watering her yard, the hose began retracting but it hit the caller in the face on her forehead, nose and her right eye.

She is blind in her left eye so this blinded her for a few moments.

Caller states that one end of the hose was in her hand with the other hooked to the water on the house.

I asked her how the hose was retracting if she had one end in her hand and it was connected to the water at the house on the other end.

She stated that it just began retracting.

She treated herself, did not go to the hospital or visit the doctor.

She contacted the manufacturer via 1 (973)-287-5160.

The product, in the report: Flexible hose product number FH100BG

The consumer stated that her husband ordered the product on May 6th, 2013 through an infomercial on TV. The product was shipped on July 10th, 2013 and the consumer’s husband received it soon after.

This consumer stated that this was the third time the consumer’s husband was using this product after receiving it.

The consumer’s husband stated that around 8:30am he went outside and turned on the water to water the plants. He stated that few minutes after he turned the water on, the hose exploded at the seam of the nozzle and the hose. The consumer’s husband stated that the hose had shredded where it was connected to the nozzle.

When the hose exploded, the consumer’s husband was hit in the face (on the cheeks) by the hose. The consumer stated that the hose could have caused a more serious injury if it would have hit her husband’s eye.

The consumer’s husband already has a doctor’s appointment scheduled for today, so he stated that he will get the injury checked out during the appointment.

The consumer’s husband stored the product indoor and took it out only to water the plants.

When the consumer’s husband tried to contact the manufacturer to notify them of the incident, he was told by the representative that there is no refund available on this product and that this is a “final deal.” After some time, the manufacturer agreed to send him a return label to send the product back for a full refund. The consumer also contacted the manufacturer to speak to someone on the product safety team but was informed by the manufacturer that they did not have such a team. The consumer was put on hold to speak to a supervisor but the call was disconnected after 5 minutes of hold.

The consumer informed that they will keep the product for at least 30 days before they send it back to the manufacturer, unless requried to send it back now. Consumer contacted the credit card company and were advised to return the product asap.

This product is not included in any recalls.
