I bought a bag of vermiculite from walmart.. the brand was Burpee.. There was a razor blade shaped piece of metal that was in the bag and it cut my hand.

(7/25/2022) W. Atlee Burpee.com: In respect of CPSC Report No. 20220708-A0D65-2147355152, W. Atlee Burpee Company (“Burpee”) offers the following response: IMC Outdoor Living, a division of LTR Products, LLC (“IMC”), has had a licensing agreement with Burpee for over 6 years to manufacture, market, and sell Burpee branded organic plant foods and growing media for distribution in the United States. IMC is committed to upholding Burpee’s standards of providing the highest quality products and service to consumers. The safety of IMC’s consumers is always a top priority. IMC takes all product-related complaints seriously and uses such feedback on an ongoing basis to evaluate and improve IMC’s products and processes. Over the past six years of IMC’s licensing agreement with Burpee, IMC has processed and sold over 1.2 million bags of vermiculite and perlite soil amendments with no known previous contamination incidents. As part of the production process, the vermiculite sourced by IMC from a third-party supplier for use with Burpee’s name and trademarks is subject to a series of quality fine mesh screens intended to remove foreign matter, small vermiculite pieces and dust before bagging. The South Carolina Department of Agriculture conducts on-site audits at IMC’s vermiculite supplier for the FDA/USDA. Besides monitoring safety procedures and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP), production lines are routinely visually inspected to ensure end products contain no foreign debris. IMC investigates all CPSC database incident reports, and with any consumer concern, IMC is always interested to better understand the consumer’s experience. At the time of this response, IMC has not yet been able to examine the product in question.
