The product, in the report: Garden Sprayer
I purchased a SPECTRACIDE 1 gal garden sprayer last fall from a local big box store. I have used it approx. 50 - 75 times. On June 12, 2011 as I was pumping it, the sprayer hose came off where it connects to the tank. Because the tank was under pressure, the contents (insecticide) came out at the hose connection point and went into my eyes, mouth and nose, covered my face in an instant. After flushing my eyes, showering and changing clothes, I reattached the hose according to the mfgr. instructions, repressurized the sprayer and the hose came off again. This hose connection point is poorly designed, making this product potentially dangerous, even when mfg. instructions are followed. Although I was wearing gloves, I did not have eye protection on at the time of pressurization because there was no expectation of a component failure. I don’t believe there was any mfg. warning to wear eye protection while pressurizing the tank. There is no compression fitting for the hose at the tank connection. The screw down fitting is insufficient. If there had been a more caustic solution in the sprayer I probably would not be able to see to write this.
