Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

The product, in the report: Snow Blower
4/2023: The fuel tank came loose inside of the snow blower. Initially, the consumer was not exactly sure what was wrong with the product and he was putting it away for the Spring/Summer. Therefore, he did not address the issue at that time.
Sometime later, he found that the fuel cap was the only thing holding the fuel tank in place. Furthermore, there is a single mount that attaches to the underside of the snow blower’s housing, which had broken away and left the fuel tank dangling inside the snow blower.
The consumer called the firm to advise them about the issue, because once the fuel tank’s cap is removed the fuel tank could fall inside of the engine and spill gas. Additionally, the consumer had the unit about a year when he started some maintenance on it. When he removed the cover, he found that 1 of the maintenance housing mounts had broken away and it seemed that it was not manufactured properly, or that the mount may have been damaged to begin with, when it was assembled.
1/18/2024: He called the firm and reported these issues to their rep. ([REDACTED]). He was assigned a CASE# [REDACTED], told that the product was out of warranty, but that he could purchase the snow blower’s housing for $80.00+. The consumer declined that offer, because this is a safety issue and the maintenance cover mount broke, while the machine was under warranty. The rep. said they could not assist him further. Nothing else transpired.

The product, in the report: Snow Thrower
The consumer indicates that he was blowing snow off his driveway when he had to put more fuel onto his snow thrower. When the consumer removed the gas cap, the gas tank fell inside the machine. The consumer had to lift the gas tank with his fingers as plyers would not work. The consumer screwed the cap back on; this is the only thing holding the gas tank up.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative he spoke to informed him that because they were aware of the issue that they would send him the replacements part free of charge. The consumer contacted the authorized Troy-Built repair company in Boise, Idaaho. he purchased his unit at and explained the situation; the representative he spoke to informed him that they were aware of the issue as well as they had to fix several of the same units and that, if he brought his replacement parts to them that they would install them for him.
The consumer states that the product was only used twice prior to the incident.
The consumer plans on keeping his snow thrower for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.
A friend of mine from church, [REDACTED] bought the same machine at the same retailer, Lowes, and had the same problem, he rigged his up to use it, and repaired mine with the new part sent to me since I am nearly blind and could not do it. I was afraid gas tank might fall onto the hot motor and explode. He called the company also, they would not send him the replacement parts.

The product, in the report: Troy-Bilt Storm 2660 Snow Blower
Troy-Bilt Storm 2660 Snow Blower - When auger handle is released, handle remains engaged and auger continues to rotate/operate. This is the same problem causing the [REDACTED] recall. However that recall is limited to [REDACTED]. This Troy-Bilt model was purchased late 2018. As there were no measurable snowfalls in 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 winters the unit was not used. It was started and run and the beginning and end of winter so it was not dormant; stored in a garage and looks new. If the auger does not stop when the handle is released, injuries can occur.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Dec 15, 2016, sent to the company Feb 21, 2017, published by CPSC Mar 7, 2017
The product, in the report: snow thrower
(01/28/2015) The consumer used the snow thrower with the heated handle grip. The consumer suddenly noticed his left hand became very hot and realized he burned his hand. The consumer indicated that he had gloves on. SEE PHOTO
(01/29/2016) The consumer visited his doctor to treat his injury and he was advised to apply ointment to his burn injuries.
(02/03/2015) The consumer contacted the firm (866-840-6483) to inform them of the incident and express his safety concerns. The consumer was advised that they wanted to test his unit and they would send him forms to fill out to submit a claim regarding his injuries. However, the consumer states he never received the forms.
(02/04/2015) The firm advised consumer that their service center was over booked with work and they wouldn’t be able to test the unit until the snow season ended.
(08/05/2015) The consumer contacted the retailer (Lowes) since no action had been taken by the firm since February, 2015. This resulted in the firm’s service center (Mattapoisett Power Equipment) picking up the unit on 08/10/2015.
(10/01/2015) Without notification the consumer found the unit by his garage door at 6:00am. No results of test findings were attached.
The consumer conducted a test of the left heated handle grip. This test showed the grip temperature to reach a gauge maximum of 220 degrees F. SEE PHOTO
The firm’s service center has advised the consumer that: 1.) they did not find a defect with the heated handle grips; 2.) the heating circuit has no upper temperature control and; 3.) although not necessary the firm instructed them to install new grips. SEE INVOICE
(10/12/2015) The firm advised consumer that they had further technical issues to review before they would address consumer’s injury claim.
The consumer contacted a lawyer to file a suit regarding his injuries and the safety hazard with the unit. The consumer states that the firm was not willing to settle. The consumer was advised by his lawyer to report the incident to CPSC.
The consumer believes the unit is defective because it does not have an upper limit control and the heated grips should have a safety mechanism to shut off once it gets to a certain temperature.
