The product, in the report: Toro Powerlite 16” snow blower model 38182, serial number 220006821.
I own a Toro Powerlite 38182 snow blower that has a cracked fuel tank and is leaking everywhere. It just started happening and leaked in my garage. It was never listed on previous Toro recalls when I looked.

No incident, no one hurt Made Feb 14, 2024, sent to the company Feb 29, 2024, published by CPSC Mar 14, 2024
The product, in the report: The following Snow blower machine was ordered ‘on the phone at TORO with an Toro agent - whom arranged it to be set up and delivered by an local Hornung Tru Value store located at 3811 Peters Mountain Road Halifax, Pa 17032 Toro: Power Max HD 1030 OHAE 30 in. 302 cc Two-Stage Gas Snow Blower with Electric Start, Triggerless Steering & Hand Warmers order # [REDACTED]
Purchased an Toro HD1030. The unit is set correctly. What happens upon use is: when I let go of the drive control on an grade this 290 pound unit ROLLS FREE. If I am going UP the grade/sloped drive it rolls into me. It is very heavy; I am on an wet slippery surface mind you and if I do not try to hold it from rolling free it can roll on its own down the drive possibly causing damage to property or hurt or even kill someone. When it rolls there is no resistance therefore it moves faster and faster. If I am going DOWN the drive - the same roll away event occurs. Are people expected to be able to hold an machine weighing so much ? But how many people have the strength to hold back 290 pounds and on an winter surface. I weigh 212 pounds and this machine begins immediately to drag me along with it. When I attempted to shut it down during use - I then realized it was NOT possible since - one can not reach the control and even if that were possible the user would have all he/she can do to hold the unit from moving.
The Toro HD1030 - has forward gears and rearward gears. It does not have an PARK nor an NEUTRAL gear selection.
After receiving the unit - soon after I discovered something amiss when I walked it ‘in operation’ on the drive it was intended to be used. I was incredulous after verifying the settings to then realize, after comparing the operating manual from my previous [REDACTED] power shift unit and this unit Toro HD1030 it appeared to not have an braking device. Then to my dismay: the folks at the TruValue store, whom set it up for my use and delivered it FROM TORO - when I brought the safety concern to the manager, the manager and the employees in the power equipment section discussed the issue with me - whom then announced to me - the current units from Toro do not have an brake or an feature to prevent it from moving or rolling on its own. They are designed to roll freely. It was clear to me - one of the men there seemed to already know of this issue - being he declared right off - NO they do not have an brake they are designed to roll freely. Another man - appeared to be in complete surprise at this revelation in fact he said “that can not be”. He then asked IF it can be modified to have an brake - the answer NO. I offer these observations merely to offer an accurate statement of my experience while at the Tru Value location whom delivered the unit and my attempt to get an understanding IF this unit had an defect. In addressing this issue I believe Tru Value is not at fault here.
NOTE: I purchased this unit from the TORO company direct - from an SALESPERSON where I placed the order via an phone conversation. A - during the conversation with the TORO salesman I made it an point to describe the length of the drive of my home 800 feet and the grade, it is sloped, to assure I got the proper tool for the job. My previous unit being an Toro 824 power-shift which I used for 28 years. The HD1030 I was advised is an more powerful unit able to throw wet snow and it is 30 inches wider, six inches more than the 824 unit.I called them because at the time an Toro unit was not available anywhere at the time locally. B - I had an discussion with a few salespeople at different locations and every one of them did not know this unit did not have an feature to keep it from rolling free. And some admitted they it would not occur to them to think they had to address it. My previous model and [REDACTED] power shift would have an brake when I STOP and release the drive trigger. After impressing and addressing this UNSAFE condition - it was said: ‘you must always hold DEPRESS the drive control at all times, never let go. And “you will get used to it” I find this to be incredible as there are so many instances when you MUST cease forward movement. An branch, the neighbors Dog coming to say hello; I sneeze - need to wipe the snow or tears from my eyes, adjust my clothing, etc. And how could anyone designing this unit believe all surfaces are FLAT. Additionally how many people can hold that control in before their hands start to cramp up?
This is an large machine designed ‘to go the distance’ - larger, longer snow removal jobs.
I fear this unit is going to kill me or someone should it ‘get away’ since - from what I have gathered so far ... it was designed that way. I have used an [REDACTED] powershift unit since 1993 which represents many, many hours of user experience in those 29 years.
The distance from garage door to the street is 800 (eight hundred) feet. Asphalt 12 feet wide.
There has not been any snow fall requiring the use of this unit until the two snowfalls so far this year 2024 in the valley of Dauphin, Pennsylvania

The product, in the report: Toro power clear 721 RC snowblower model 38751
Toro snowblower model 38751 power clear 721 RC. While snowblowing driveway snowblower clutch would not disengage. Clutch lever released yet snowblower paddle kept spinning creating risk of injury. Upon inspection the clutch cable guide, which is made out of plastic, had the metal clutch cable wear into the plastic effectively causing the cable to get stuck in the plastic and not disengage the clutch despite the clutch cable being released. There is a similar recall for this exact problem but different toro snowblower model. Please recall all snowblowers with this part!

The product, in the report: Snow Thrower
The submitter is reporting the unit for posing an injury hazard. He indicated that the unit does not shut off when the hand lever is released.
He used the unit to plow snow from his driveway and when he released the hand lever the impeller did not stop. He indicated that the unit is supposed to shut off when the hand lever is released. The unit continued to move on its own down the driveway. He said he was able to stop it before it could injure a person.
He contacted the firm and reported the incident. He was told to take the unit to a local repair dealer for inspection but he hasn’t been able to because of the weather.
He indicated that this was his third time using the unit. Now every time he turns the unit on the unit keeps running after the hand lever is released and he has concerns with using it.

The product, in the report: Toro 518 ZR single stage snow blower
Fuel leaks from the carburetor throat and drips on the floor when it is not running. Diagnosed as the float needle not sealing so I purchased a carburetor overhaul kit and replaced all the seals and gaskets, as well as the float and float needle. Fuel is still leaking, the float needle and the needle seat are in perfect condition (examined both with a 10x magnifier). The float needle that had been removed was also in serviceable condition, the needle seat is not replaceable but looks perfect.
The carburetor float and the float needle are moving freely, no binding or problems.
I contacted the manufacturer and because this model was not under recall they determined it was not their problem. It is no longer under warranty as it was purchased in late 2016 by the original owner, used that winter then stored properly (fuel drained and oil was changed) before the owner passed away. If the defect was noticed before I cannot ask, the widow (wife’s cousin) was not using it and gave it to us.

The product, in the report: Toro Snowmaster 824 QXE Snow Thrower (Toro 36003)
I went to start my 2016 electric start Toro Snowmaster 824 QXE Snow Thrower for the first time this winter. It did not start on the first try so I pushed the primer button again before pressing the starter. When I pressed the starter flames shot out in the carburetor are and continued burning. I had to move the machine away from the garage and tried to snuff out the flames with snow. I was finally able to get the flames out after 5 minutes or more and after parts of the ignition area were melted.
Last winter when I put gas in it for winter the gas all leaked out. The dealer took it in for service but said they could not find anything wrong. It worked okay for the rest of the winter.

The product, in the report: Toro 518ZR Single Stage Snowblower
In November of 2017 I purchased a Toro 518 ZR snowblower. Since purchase the machine has leaked gasoline three times. The first time, an authorized dealer attempted to fix the machine, a few days later, a gas leak was discovered again. The dealer confirmed again that this was from the carburetor. The dealer took almost three weeks to obtain a part from Toro but could not and as a result they grabbed a part from a new machine in a box and used that part. That machine was returned to me on December 28th. Now, the machine is rapidly leaking gas from the same area again. I am going to call Toro tomorrow to request a refund or an exchange to a different model machine.

The product, in the report: Toro Power Clear 180 Snowthrower
I received a Toro Power Clear 180, model 38282 as a Christmas present in 2009. It has serial number 310022796. I was able to use it the first winter, however in December 2010, I found a gas leak. The Toro dealer handled it under warranty but made no mention of a recall. The product worked that winter but would not start the following winter of 2012. After paying for a tune-up, the next leak was found in December 2013. I paid 139.47 in January of 2014 to get that taken care of. In December, 2016 the leak returned. I paid $254.18 to have the problem resolved and all necessary maintenance.
It is now December and when I added fuel to get the blower going for the first snow fall, there was an immediate leak. While looking for a way to get the leak fixed, I found the notice of recall from 2010. While I do not object to paying for a tune-up when needed, I do believe that I am entitled to have a product that does not continually leak and endanger me and my family.
It is possible some of the work done previously was done under the auspices of the recallI, but if that were the case, then whatever the problem was has not been properly and permanently fixed as evidenced by the multiple recurrences of the problem. It is disturbing that supposedly authorized Toro dealers are incapable of properly dealing with this problem.
Your assistance in getting this matter resolved properly and promptly will be appreciated.

The product, in the report: Toro Power Curve 2450 GTS 38515 - snowblower
I purchased a Toro Power Curve CCR 2450 GTS in 2008. It is used 2-3 times a year. When priming the gas for a cold start, I have always noticed gas spilling out from the choke switch. This year the unit would not start, and I researched how to start it and sprayed carb cleaner into the carburetor. It started after this, but gas continues to leak from the carburetor. Now the engine is surging. After more research, I have learned the carburetor is made of plastic and the engines heat may cause the carburetor to warp which can cause the engine to surge and gas to leak. This same model was recalled for the same issue for the 2002 models. I have the 2007 model. I have contacted the manufacturer to ask for a replacement part. I’m assuming it is the same part for the 2002 models. The faulty carburetor is a potential safety concern because of the engine surges and a potential fire concern because of the gas leakage.

The product, in the report: Toro Power Clear Snow Blower model 421Q E
My Toro snow blower (Power Clear 421Q E) was first recalled in 2011 under campaign due to gas leaking from the carburetor. The snow blower was repaired by an authorized Toro dealer on 1/24/2012. The issue has returned on 12/10/2016 and the replaced carburetor again leaked out gas causing a fire hazard in my garage. The gas ran down the carburetor and pooled on the garage floor creating a fire hazard for possible ignition by any flame source.
Toro know that all gas made causes a problem with their design still continues to make the same product design. This design is unsafe no matter how many times it is repaired and causes a fire hazard. I do not want to risk having a snow blower leaking gas at my residence. All these snow blowers with these designs should immediately stop being sold until the design can be corrected to stop the leaks. Toro should voluntarily buy back the defective machines and/or replace with a true safe design. At a minimum Toro should be required to add a gas shut off valve into the design as a fail safe if they continue to be incompetent to correct the design flaw.

The product, in the report: snow blower power clear 180 single stage
My Toro snowblower was recalled in 2010 for gas leaking from the carborator. After several times having it fixed, it still leaks raw gas again into my garage after sitting just 16 days after it’s last use. the dealer explained that all manufactureres make the same parts in China involving a needle to stop the gas from flowing. There is a design issue when using gas with ethanol, which is 95% of all gas sold. The gas has corrosive effects on the carborator and needle causing sticking and the gas flows onto the floor of the garage where the snow blower is sitting. The gas ran down and out under the garage door, creating a fire hazard for anyone walking by with a match, cigarette, etc. Toro (and othe manufacturues apparently) blame the gas producers for making gas with ethanol which has various side effects such as this. Toro knowing that all gas made causes a problem with their design still continues to make the same design ignoring the issue and blaming the gas refineries. This design is unsafe, regardless of how many times it is repaired and causes a fire hazard. I can’t risk having the snow blower leaking gas into my residence so the dealer offered to buy it from me for $75 which I then sold to him. All these snow blowers with these designs should immediately stop being sold until either the design can be changed to stop the leaks or the gas is changed to not cause the issues.

He had no problems with this unity until late November/early December 2015 to prepare for first use of the season and noticed that the gas tank had cracks about half way down the length of the frame and each is about around a quarter of an inch long.
There are two of these crack and that they appear to be fairly deep.

The product, in the report: Toro Power Clear 210R snowthrower (Model 38587) (Ser #310022274) purchased 12/18/2009
My Toro Power Clear 210R snow blower (Model 38587) has been leaking gasoline onto my garage floor, repeatedly over the last month or so. I first noticed that it had a serious leak in January. It lost perhaps 1/3 tank of its gasoline/oil mix over a period of a couple weeks (or less, I cannot be sure) onto the garage floor. There was a water puddle there the entire time from ice melt off my two cars that made it hard to notice any gasoline residue though, of course, I smelled it. As soon as I realized that there was a significant leak, I took the unit to the dealer where I had bought it. He recognized the problem immediately, having seen this issue with other Toro units. (I since learned that Toro had a CPSCmandated recall of a similar model in 2011. Online one finds that other Toro models have generated essentially identical leak complaints as well.) The problem here was a sticking needle valve in the carburetor; this allows gasoline to flow from the fuel tank to the carburetor inlet where it overflows and runs onto the floor. They performed the [REDACTED]-recommended repair to the carburetor and then kept the snow blower for a week to see that the leak had indeed stopped. After a few uses over the last few weeks I again noticed a gasoline odor and confirmed that the unit was again leaking. I again took it to the dealer (yesterday) and they cleaned the carburetor float and needle valve; this seemed to stop the leak. However, I checked it overnight only to find that it is still leaking.
I have 30 years professional experience with fire safety issues and also have worked with CPSC personnel on some fire issues. I recognize this problem as an imminent fire safety (or even explosion) hazard when the unit is stored in an enclosed space, especially as in my case, an attached garage. I have removed my snow blower from my garage and stored it outside. Also I have reported the problem to Toro and I am awaiting their response

I came home last night to the strong smell of gasoline in my garage. Upon inspection, I noticed a large pool of gas under the snowblower and gas was dripping out of it at a rapid rate. I had to clean out the garage and use a plastic container to collect the gas that was dripping out.
After doing a small amount of research I found that this is a common problem with these snowblowers and that it is most likely caused by an issue with the carburetor. Other serial numbers of this same model have been recalled due to this issue resulting in a fire hazard. Since this has been an issue with other models as well, I feel it should be the responsibility of the manufacturer to expand the recall or to rectify the situation of those dealing with these issues.

The product, in the report: TORO MODEL 3650 SNOW BLOWER
My Toro model 3650 snow blower leaks fuel when the motor is stopped. I reported this two or three years ago.
There have been call backs for other models of Toro snow blowers and other Toro products regarding problems with motors leaking fuel.
Toro seems to have a widespread problem with fuel leaking from motors.
I am concerned there has not been a call back for Toro snow blower model 3650 regarding fuel leaks, although I have read complaints from other owners on the internet about fuel leaks on model 3650. It appears to be a recurring problem even after the problem was supposedly fixed. The problem may be a plastic carburetor that should have been metal.

Carb repair work was needed again 1/14/2012 (Leaking gas). Now this season on 12/23/13 the snowblower is leaking gas again all over the garage floor. I noticed the leaking after the first time I used the snowblower this December. I have a bucket under the damn thing catching the leaking gas. I will need to remove the plastic hood and drain the gas tank before taking it in again for another carburetor repair. This is the second time in 3 years this has happened. Toro should be made to recall these dangerous machines or give consumers rebates to purchaser new machines that DO NOT LEAK GAS ALL OVER GARAGE FLOORS ALL OVER THE USA.

This is my third winter with the Toro Power Clear 180 Snowthrower and when I went to use it, it wouldn’t start. However, I noticed that there seemed to be gas leaking from somewhere. Upon further investigation, I found gas leaking from the carburetor. Fortunately I stopped and investigated on the web for further information. What I found was that this model has been recalled previously for the exact same issue. I called Toro and they said they have no recalls on this particular model/serial number at this time. I bought the snowblower right after the first recall and can’t help but wonder if the store just happened to have some defective merchandise in stock still and didn’t realize it. I was instructed to take it to the nearest Toro dealer and they would determine if they could fix it and would decide if it should be covered or not.

In December 2009, I purchased a Toro Power Clear 180 SnowBlower, model 38282 for $434. It immediately began leaking gas. Toro instructed me to take Snowblower to its authorized representative & in January 2010, the carburetor was repaired. in July 2010, Toro advised about recalling the Snowblower due to potential fire hazard. In January 2011, the Snowblower again leaked gas & I returned it to Bill’s Power center where recall repairs were again done. In october 2011, the product leaks gas again & Toro instructed me to take another authorized service representative, were carburetor again was repaired. Yesterday the garage was full again of gas fumes & Snowblower leaking gas.
The SnowBlower remains a safety hazard to the public due to leaking gas and gas fumes. Toro is unable to properly repair the machine to eliminate the fire and fume hazard. The Toro Power Clear 180 SnowBlower should be removed from the market & consumers should be refunded their purchase price.

Upon opening my garage to use my car I smelled a strong gas odor. After investigating I found gas leaking from the carburetor or my Toro CCR3650 snowblower. I removed the cover to inspect the leak and found a plastic carburetor the was leaking from the bowl area. I know that Toro has a recall going on for a different model but I believe this is the same issue on the model I have. I know that the replacement carburetor is not available and has a metal carburetor listed as a replacement. If indeed it is a design defect then I believe Toro should provide a new carburetor. As right now my snowblower is unusable unless I pay $125 for the replacement metal carburetor. Luckily I did not run the snowblower and found the leak first. The model number for my snowblower is 38518 and the serial number is 260005252. After searching for fuel leaks on the internet I have found many complaints for this carburetor with the needle valve design being prone to sticking open causing a fuel leak.

Toro snowblower model 38515 started leaking gas from the carburator. According to the local dealer, it needs a new carburator but they are having trouble getting one because this is apparently a common issue with this particular snowblower. From what I can tell, Toro has issued recalls on this model snowblower but not our serial number (290004563) for this fuel leaking problem. We bought this snowblower 6-7 years ago. The fuel tank leaked the 1st winter, Took it back to the Toro dealer where we bought it. They went bankrupt while it was there for repair. Took weeks to get it back thru the sheriffs office. Put on an old fuel tank and have used it since. Went to but the correct tank and found it was recalled for the same problem we had, leaking fuel. We were never notified and we did send in the registration info. Have contacted Toro but they do not want to honor the warranty.recall because we no longer have the fuel tank that leaked. Also another eToro dealer in the area will not do the recall because we did not buy there and they also want the old leaking fuel tank. Toro snow blower model 38600 serial 2200001075. I have spent to much time on the phone with Toro, told twice a supervisor would call me. I am now documenting the gasoline leak problem adn should there be any unfortunate incident Toro will have been warned. I see this item was recalled already and CPSC has a recall for this item. I dont know why they resist sending the proper repair part.

The product, in the report: Toro Power Clear 418 ZE (Electric Start) Snowthrower.
In Dec. 2011 I purchased a new Toro Power Clear 418 ZE Snow Thrower. Due to a milder than normal winter, I did not have to use the machine last year. This year when I went to start the snow thrower (on 12/27/2012), I filled it with fuel, and attempted to start it. After I pushed the primer bulb fuel began to leak profusely from the primer bulb. The gasoline leaked all over the machine and my garage floor.
I stopped my attempt to start the machine, and siphoned the fuel from the tank.

The product, in the report: Toro Snow Thrower
Toro 38583 model 221QR Power Clear Snowthrower purchased 2/2010 and on 12/30 I went outside to start it to remove the snow from the driveway. It would not start and after pulling the star cord multiple times I noticed gas was squirting out of the carburetor. I let it sit for 15 minutes, just in case it was flooded, tried to start it again and gas continued to squirt out of the carburetor. I discontinued use and have contacted Home Depot where I purchased the product since I have an extended warranty and they are working with me to resolve the issue.

The product, in the report: Snow blower that leaks gas
My Toro snow blower leaked gasoline all over my garage floor after using it for the 3rd time. I took this to K & K Hardware in Bettendorf Iowa where it was purchased. I was told they could not get this to duplicate so they would not do any type of repair.
This snow blower is one that has been recalled and still they would not cooperate! From what I understand the carberator has a sticking needle which causes it to leak.
I am scared to use this again in fear of it being a fire hazard.

I ran the TORO Power Clear 421QE, empty of one tank and filled the tank full again to run later that afternoon. When I went to the garage I could smell gasoline and there was some on the floor. When I went to start the snowblower it would not start. I checked the tank it was empty. I thought that that was funny where did all the gas go. I went to check the oil, when I removed the oil plug gasoline/motor oil came pouring out. The Whole full tank of gas had overflowed into the crankcase of the engine and leaked on the floor.

The product, in the report: Snowthrower/Blower
I purchased a Toro Power Clear 180 R Snowthrower in Fall of 2010. The model number is: 38272 The serial number is: 311010*** I was able to use the snowthrower for the winter season (apprx 5-10 uses) and it worked fine. I changed to the oil per recommendation and drained the gasoline for the summer. Next fall (2011), I filled the tank with gas and it began to leak from the carburator. I checked the recall notice and my serial number was just outside those recalled, but having the same issues. Scared to use the snowthrower due to fire hazard, I took it to a shop and they told me I would need a new carburator but without being included in the recall, it would be at my expense. That was unnacceptable to for a barely used item, so I drained the gas and now I just filled the tank and it’s leaking again! I’ve used this snowthrower less than 10 times, and it’s now unusable and dangerous to my family.

Product- Toro Power Clear 180 Snow Blower Purchased 11/12/2009 Model - 38272 Ser# - 310000821
Incident description - Continuing problem with fuel leaks.
Actions taken - 11/24/2010 Dealer replaced leaking Carburetor under warranty. 11/23/2011 Dealer replaced leaking Carburetor under warranty 10/18/2012 Owner rebuilt leaking Carburetor replacing needle valve. 10/18/2012 Owner drained fuel system and replaced old fuel with new fuel. 10/18/2012 Owner added MIX-I-GO to fuel to protect from ethanol problems. 11/20/2012 Carburetor started leaking again.
Comments - It is obvious that the made in China Carburetor was not designed for US fuel and that the problem it has not been corrected. It is just as dangerous as it was in 2009. If the needle valve was replaced with one with a metal tip rather than a rubber one the problem probably be corrected although this might require a more precision product. I think that Toro should be required to fix this dangerous product!
Toro- Toro’s solution to this problem drain the gas from the unit when not in use and hope that snow falls are not more than a month apart.

I was putting fresh gas in my Toro Snowblower for the winter season. I filled the tank that was empty with fresh new Non- Ethonol gas on Sat 10/20/2012 in my garage. I left the house and return home on Sunday morning to a strong odor of GAS. I left the garage door open & aired out the garage B/4 I left to go away for Sunday 10/21/2012. I returned home on Monday morning and open the garage door to the same gas odor & now it had penetrated into my homes Living Area. I moved the Snowblower out into the driveway to start the engine. It started and ran for about 3 minutes and then stopped running. I open the gas tank and it was empty, all of the Gas had leaked out of the machine onto the garage floor. This is a Safety of Healthy issue for me and my family to inhale gas odors & have the risk of a Fire. So far all I have gotten is the run around from Toro . This is a bad Model. I have done everything that the owners books has said, run the gas out at the end of the Season. Taken the advice of the Toro dealer to put in the Star Tron Gasoline Treatment. The machine is 2 years old and I afraid to continue using. Yesterday 10/22/2012 I spoke to Toro Customer Service and they wouldn’t confirm anything in writing that they would cover the expense of the repair. All they kept saying was were sorry. I’m surprised that no one is sick from the gas fumes and we didn’t hae a fire. We start the car in the garage.

This incident concerns a Toro Power Clear 180 Snowthrower: Model No: 38272 Serial No: 311012465
I understand that there is a recall on this model for serial numbers that begin with 310 for a fuel leak in the carburetor that is caused by degradation of a rubber fuel needle valve on exposure to fuel to the point where it sticks in the open position. My snowthrower, purchased in the fall of 2010, is not covered by the recall, but has experienced a dangerous fuel leak that seems consistent with this defect. I used this snowthrower last season, and it worked correctly. At season’s end, I put the unit in storage. At the start of this season, I changed the engine oil (as per manufacturer’s specification), filled the tank with gasoline, and tried to start the engine. It failed to start, and I returned the unit to its storage location in the garage, where it was stored without incident during the first snow season. After shoveling snow by hand and returning to the garage, I observed that fuel was leaking from the carburetor. Eventually, all the fuel in the fuel tank leaked out of the carburetor onto the garage floor. This suggests to me that the recall needs to be extended to a greater range of serial numbers.

The product, in the report: Toro Power Clear 180 - red snow blower
I purchased a Toro Power Clear 180 single stage snow blower from our local Ace Hardware store on November 22, 2009. Since then I’ve had the unit into the repair shop four times for a leaking carburator. Not dripping gas, flowing gas. Dates on the invoice are 2/9/10, 1/17/11, 5/19/11 and 7/27/11. I haven’t put any gas in the unit from the 7/27/11 repair until last weekend. FOUR DAYS LATER THE [REDACTED] THING IS LEAKING GAS AGAIN !!!!!!!
What do I do? Prior to bringing the unit into the repair shop the last time I wrote to Toro expressing my dissatisfaction, not with the overall performance but the constant leaking gas and the failur of the repair parts to do the trick. I even provided them the name of the repair shop. They wrote back via e-mail dated July 23, 2011, giving me case # [REDACTED], stating I had to work with the repair shop. In April, 2010 I had received a recall notice from Toro about this problem. Well, they don’t know how to fix it and I’m at the end of my patience. I fear for the safety of my wife and me, wondering when will a spark ignite the leaking gas while in the garage or as I’m operating it.
Help, I’ve got a lemon of a snow thrower and the snow season is upon us.

The product, in the report: Snowblower
The consumer says it has been repaired once due to a gas leak. She says it is now once again leaking, next to the furnace. She says it was a huge amount. It permeated their house. It was leaking from somewhere underneath it. She says it was repaired a year ago. She says the new carburetor may also be defective. The unit received the remedy listed in Release #10-299 as it is involved in the recall, however she is still experiencing the safety hazard.

The product, in the report: Toro CCR Powerlite Snowthrower 16”
I was preparing to start my snowthrower, and I noticed gasoline leaking out all over my garage floor. To avoid a fire in my garage, I immediately pulled the machine out to the driveway. Upon inspection, I noticed that the plastic fuel tank is cracked. This creates a potential for fire and injury.
The fuel tank is fused/molded to the plastic shroud that covers the top of the machine. A crack developed where the tank & shroud meet. This appears to be a common probelm, as Toro recognized this hazard and issued a recall (release #06-224, 8/3/2006). However, the recall only appled to their 20” & 24” snowthrowers. The model I have is a 16” size, but the fuel tank/shroud design is very similar to the recalled models. I’m not sure why the smaller size was not included in the recall as it also appears to have the same defect.

The product, in the report: Toro 421Q snowblower; Serial #280002680; Model #38585; single stage; 4-cycle
I bought a Toro Model #38585 Serial #280002680 in 2008. It worked fine over the 2008-2009 winter. The following year, (2009-2010) I try to start it and find it leaks gas out of the carburetor; so I take it apart and find one end of the float spring has been pinched between the bowl gasket and its mating surface; it was an easy fix and took care of the leak.
For the 2010-2011 winter I had a similar gas leak from somewhere in the carburetor. I bought a rebuild kit, installed it and that took care of the the leak last year. Now its the winter of 2011-2012 and I find that the carburetor is leaking all over again. What gives? Toro has recalled many models that are the same as mine, except newer. I bought a 421Q from the first two years when Toro was buying Snow King engines from Tecumseh. Tecumseh is apparently no longer in business.
Is there a recall on my snowblower? Have others had sll the same carburetor leaking that I have had to deal with?

after starting and then shutting it off TORO Snowblower model 38282 leaked gas from under carburater. It poured out, emptying the whole tank onto my driveway. Could have easily caught fire but didn’t. I found a recall from Toro for it. The TORO dealer sold me the recalled unit unfixed AFTER the recall had been issued. I have a Power Clear 180 and I still have the leaking gas problem. I received the recall and brought it to the dealer for repair. When I got it back, it leaked gas immediately. Took it back and they replaced the carburetor. Checked a few weeks ago, and it is leaking gas again. Not sure why Toro is not doing more to correct this problem. In my opinion, this is a major safety problem.

The product, in the report: Snow blower
Consumer believes his Toro snow blower is unsafe and a fire hazard. While his snow blower is not recalled, it is having the same problems listed in recall release 11-207. The snow blower was fairly new and only used a few times this last winter. In the winter, the consumer started it a few times just to make sure it was running properly, even when he didn’t intend to use it, and then stored it in his garage. In March, he noticed that the garage smelled of gas, and saw approximately 4” wet spots under the snow blower where the engine compartment was. At this point, he drained the gas out of the snow blower.
He went back to Home Depot, where he bought the product, and asked the salesman who originally sold it to him whether he knew of this problem. The salesman did not. Shortly after, the consumer learned of the recall of other Toro models through a contractor he works with. This prompted him to go back to Home Depot and speak with the salesman. He brought a copy of the recall notice, and the salesman told him that he had just known about the recall a few days before and didn’t seem very concerned about the results of the recall. The Home Depot salesman wasn’t very helpful, and just told him to take it to a repair shop that they use. He then said that the repair shop would have to determine if it was a repair that would be covered by the Toro warranty.
The snow blower is still at the repair shop. The warranty has not expired, and Toro told him since he was using an acceptable type of gas and that the warranty hasn’t expired, the repair should be covered.

The product, in the report: Toro CCR 2450 snowthrower
All the gas runs out in the garage. Gas is coming from the carburetor, not the gas tank. All the gas leaks out into the garage- this is a fire Hazard. Hard to estimate how much gas to put in, to remove the snow. The first year - It ran good. Toro was an established good product. The second year - It ran good the first month, but seemed like the snow thrower was loading up. Got new spark plug. The third year - It ran good at first, but acted like the previous year. The fourth year - It ran good again, but soon seemed like it had 1/2 the horsepower -- same as other years. This snowthrower is used by me only in Dec. and Jan. as we go south for Feb. and Mar. I also run the gas out in early spring. We have gone south for 13 years. Very few hours on snowthrower. This is like recall for the Toro 1800 -- ? Toro’s other snowthrower being recalled.
