No incident, no one hurt Made Jun 13, 2025, sent to the company Jun 18, 2025, published by CPSC Jul 3, 2025
The product, in the report: This is a 1025R John Deere Sub-Compact Tractor. Model year 2025 with a front-end Loader and a 60” mid-mount deck installed.
I purchased a 2025 John Deere 1025R compact tractor. On the very first mow, the deck started dropping on its own. Meaning you set the deck cut height, and the deck drops to its lowest setting on its own. This could result in serious property or personal injury, depending on when the deck drops.

No one hurt Made Jun 7, 2024, sent to the company Jun 12, 2024, published by CPSC Jun 27, 2024
The product, in the report: John Deere S170 Lawn tractor
We purchased a S170 John Deere Lawn tractor from Lowes on 9-1-23. We mowed a few times before winter. Come this spring, 2024, we mowed 2 more times. The second time we mowed the tractor went up in flames, while mowing, about 20 minutes into it. It had 7 hours on it. It caught the lawn on fire as well as across the streets empty lot on fire so we had to call the fire dept to put it out. My husband was lucky to have been able to get off of it before his clothing caught fire. We paid 3,199.00 for it and still paying on it for another 18 months. Lowes said to call John Deere. Called John Deere, sent them the pics, described what happed and we just received a letter back from them (dated May 13, 2024) stating they didnt find any part to be defective on material or workmanship based on the extensive damage of the lawn tractor! Based on the reviews on this specific mower, we are the 5th consumer that purchased this mower and it has caught fire and all is lost- these reviews are just from the last 2 years. Those reviews are only from Lowes reviews so Im sure there are more. This is insane to spend this kind of money, it only have 7 hours on it and it burst into flames. SOMETHING is DEFINITELY DEFECTIVE! If my husband caught on fire, he could have died! John Deere will not reimburse us! Our other mower we had over 10 years never did this! (But it wasnt a John Deere). John Deere told us to report it to our insurance carrier! This mower should not even be on the market to sell anymore with all the bad reviews describing the same exact thing! Someone is going to die from this one day. This is a serious issue and we want our money back! Our case# [REDACTED]. Deere [REDACTED]. This mower needs to be recalled and we need a refund!

The product, in the report: John Deere Lawn Tractor Model LA115
Gas tank leaked risking fire in our garage. There is a seam in the two piece gas tank that fails and leaks. The replacement part suggested by John Deere is different because they became aware of the failure. The new part is a single piece gas tank so no longer will fail at the seam. They are asking nearly $250 for the part.

The product, in the report: 2 wheel drive lawn tractor, john deere d155, green color, 24 HP, ELS HYDRO 48”
I was mowing my lawn with my d155 john deere lawn tractor when flames came from the engine compartment, I drove the tractor while the engine burned to get it to a safer area (my driveway) but could not get there quickly enough before the tractor stopped moving under its own power. At this point I got off the tractor and attempted to push the tractor, this put me directly above the gas tank and, with the flames growing, I believed this was not safe. At this point I moved around to the front of the tractor to attempt to pull it to a safer location. I grasped the front bumper with my left hand, which was too hot, I received 2nd degree burns. At this point I stopped trying to move the tractor and focused on removing all the combustible materials in the immediate vicinity until the tractor burnt completely up.

The product, in the report: John Deere Auto Connect mower on 2025
I have a 2018 John deere 2025r tractor with auto connection with 60’’ auto connect mower deck that has 106 hours on tractor and probably less than 20 hours on mower deck. I was mowing when the auto connection connector failed and basically exploded parts everywhere. My concern is I have read that is not uncommon. I was mowing near my riding arena where mt 3 girls are commonly riding their horses, luckily today they were not and no one was hurt or even killed. When this happened as i mentioned parts when flying and the ended in that arena. So am bringing this to attention because i believe this product definitely needs to be recalled before some one in injured very badly or even killed.

I bought the tractor for the garden at home depot on October/2014 I had several problems with a tractor that we used less than 30 hours. Now I was mowing the garden and somebody spoke to me, I stop the tractor and never more it worked but continued moving by inercia. In order to avoid hitting the person, I couldnt stop the tractor, it hit the border of stones of the patio. The battery stopped working and we recharged, the tractor starts but doesn t move any place. It sounds that something in the transmission is stuck??? serial number 130516ZA52759 mode 31R977000161GI there are some other numbers [REDACTED] john deere 17-5500 cc

The product, in the report: John Deere Lawn Tractor L111
John Deere Lawn tractor L111 fuel tank began leaking very slowly a month ago. I keep the tractor in my attached garage. We began to detect the smell of gasoline fumes in the garage. Most noticeable in the morning after the garage was closed all night. I looked everywhere in the garage for leaking fuel. Cars, lawn mowers, fuel storage, etc. I could not find where the fuel odor was coming from.
After a month of this odor I rechecked the mowers closely and found that the John Deere L111 fuel tank was seeping very slowly. The grass clippings were absorbing the seeping fuel so nothing was dripping onto the garage floor. The fuel vapors were filling the garage. I was lucky that the concentration was not sufficient to cause an explosion. I have since moved the tractor out of the house and I am considering my options to replace the leaking fuel tank.
I contacted John Deere to see if there is a recall on the mowers with this tank style. They said no. I see on the CPSC web site that there have been recalls on leaking John Deere fuel tanks in the past.
It is important to note that John Deere has changed the tank style for the replacement part. The old tank is a two piece seam tank. The replacement is a one piece no seam product. To me it is obvious John Deere is aware of the problem.
I believe John Deere should replace the tank.
Thank you.

The product, in the report: 2007 John Deere 2305 Sub-compact tractor
I have a John Deere 2305 riding sub-compact residential tractor. I was mowing and had a 48” brush hog attached to the rear PTO (shaft). All of a sudden the tractor turned off, brush hog kept spinning and the tractor rolled in reverse uncontrollably. Luckily, I was on a relatively flat surface so the tractor came to rest but the blade on the brush hog kept spinning. When everything eventually stopped, I disconnected the PTO and inspected the tractor. Not knowing much about them, I took it to a local Deere dealer who stated that the shaft / transmission was a known problem in this model and that John Deere had a design flaw. The only was to “fix” it was to replace the entire transmission / gears / shaft with a new product. Why was this not recalled if it is a known issue with a new / different part number with a different design to repair the problem. This is dangerous and Deere should repair ALL tractors that exist with this issue. So far, I can see from my research and information from Deere that ~ 300 + tractors have had this issue. I contacted John Deere and they refuse to listen. Please help.

Hurt, no treatment Made Feb 12, 2014, sent to the company Feb 21, 2014, published by CPSC Mar 10, 2014
The product, in the report: John Deere D130 Lawn Tractor
On November 30, ten minutes into mowing my yard, my John Deere D130 lawn tractor exploded. The machine was nearly new (3 hours of use) and I was using as intended when suddenly I heard a “pop” sound and about 10 seconds later noticed flames shooting out from under the “hood”, hearly burning my foot. I ran from the machine and called the fire department who had to visit to extinguish the incenerated machine and a surrounding brush fire.
Repeated calls both by myself and my attorney to Deere have met with the answer that I have to prove that I didn’t deliberately start the fire in order to force a remedy. No concern as to my welfare was expressed. I file this in order to initiate an investigation into an obviously faulty product that could cause injury or death to a less agile individual.

Hurt, care not known Made Aug 31, 2012, sent to the company Oct 5, 2012, published by CPSC Oct 22, 2012
The product, in the report: Garden Tractor
The tractor has a transmission that is totally sealed and cannot be maintained. Five feet down the driveway he noticed no resistance. He said the brake, is more of a parking brake which did nothing. He says it was continually gaining speed, got down to the bottom of the hill.
He could not see from one direction and was headed towards the street. His only path would have been over the street and an embankment and over a creek bed. He decided to bail out. He received a rash on both arms, both legs his backs, hands and feet. He received says the unit failed without any warning. It failed and is a total design flaw. He ways the wheels should have locked up and not free wheel

The product, in the report: Lawn Tractor
The consumer says the unit has a plastic fuel tank on the body and has developed a crack. he says that it leaks fuel. The tank holds two and a half gallons and he noticed it only had a gallon and a half in it and pretty much all leaked out on the garage floor.
He got home on 5-25 and noticed an awful smell of leaking gas that he had to ventilate throughout his home. The lawn tractor stays in an attached garage in his home.
He says the tractor is not heavily used. He feels this is clearly a fire hazard.
The consumer contacted the manufacturer who said they never heard of it. He spoke to them on 5-29-2012. They offered no assistance. The machine is currently in a local lawn mower shop.
The consumer has seen many online reports of the same thing happening to other consumers.

No one hurt Made Mar 3, 2012, sent to the company Mar 12, 2012, published by CPSC Mar 26, 2012
The product, in the report: garden tractor
I am writing to report a very serious safety issue with my JOHN DEERE model 125 lawn tractor. I purchased my tractor on April 3,2006 ( id# GX0125A012933 ). After only 55 hours of service, I sent it to my dealer for regular maintenance service ( 11/08/2011). Among the many problems found, they discovered that the GAS TANK WAS LEAKING AT THE SEAM AND LEAKING FUEL ONTO THE MOWER DECK ( copy of report available ).I was informed that this problem was not covered by the warranty. I did not have the repair done because I thought they were mistaken because I had just washed the unit and I believed it was just water. I checked it a few weeks later, and smelled a strong odor of gasoline and a POOL OF FUEL ON THE MOWER DECK. Because the tractor is stored in my garage, which is under my home, this is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION. I have written to John Deere, but at this time, I have not heard anything. If you need any further information, I can be reached at [REDACTED].

No one hurt Made Dec 9, 2011, sent to the company Jan 9, 2012, published by CPSC Jan 24, 2012
The product, in the report: Lawn Tractor
John Deere Tractor purchased in June 2006, around December 2006 he noticed that the cruise control was not working properly.
He would set and then it would just jog out, he took to repair, it was repaired and returned to him. The black plastic rectangular piece where the gas tank pushes agains the mower kept popping off.
Receipt for this repair explains that two of the four wings used to hold the gas tank in place were cut (two rear wings), the gas tank was then repositioned approximately 1/4 “.
2011, five years after this repair caller said the gas tank is leaking. He walked into his kitchen, smelled gas, opened his garage door and smelled an extremely strong smell of gas then traced it to his lawn tractor
He has contacted several television stations in his area to report this happening.
He would like this reported, recalled through CPSC for the safety of the public due to all of these repairs that he believes will now be extremely dangerous gas leaks.
He says it is because those rear wings being cut and the stress being then put on the two front wings during operation of the lawn tractor.
