The product, in the report: Model 936083 42” Automatic Tractor has a plastic transmission that locks into forward gear and jumps into reverse which is unsafe to operate and needs to be recalled.
I purchased an Ariens Automatic Tractor 8/19/14. On 9:17 the transmission would stick in gear. I called to have it serviced before I returned home to Florida for the winter but the local shop was too busy to take in the tractor. I then called the local shop to take it over Christmas vacation and they brought it back unable to correct the transmission locking into gear and not stopping when you took your foot off the forward pedal. I wrote to Airen’s customer service and described the problem of the machine licking in gear and not stopping safely and they gave me a case number [REDACTED] telling me that I should have used one of their dealers who would have service bulletins to correct properly. I returned to my Florida home for the winter and then called the local Airen’s Dealer Burke’s Lawn and Equipment Inc to come and service the mower. They returned the tractor to me saying they could only fix it by replacing the transmission with the same plastic transmission it has already that would cost over $600 for plus a $300 installation charge on an $1150 machine. They said they didn’t recommend the expense that would put the same potentially dangerous transmission in the machine and said I would be better off buying another brand that has a metal transmission. They say the transmission is scary when going backwards and without the brake will go forward on its own. I think the company is well aware there is a safety defect and have never recalled this dangerous product my machines serial number is [REDACTED] model 936083for short and entire model is 93608300/A19A42 and I registered it online 8/22/14 when delivered by Home Depot. There is also a product number 960460061.
