The product, in the report: 1 piece, multi-functional weeding rake, 50cm/19.68”
Product Name: Unfinished Metal Hand Rake Seller: Temu Purchase Date: Tuesday, July 8, 2025 Price: Approximately $7 Issue Type: Potential metal fragment contamination and infection risk Injury Date: July 15, 2025 (symptoms began within 1 hour of handling) Location of Incident: St. Petersburg, FL Medical Response: Antibiotic treatment (Cephalexin 500 mg, twice daily for 7 days); physician evaluation on July 16, 2025 Injury Details:
Rapid swelling, redness, and sharp elbow pain ~1 hour after contact with tool
No visible cuts or entry wound, but marked inflammation across arm and wrist
Ongoing tracking with daily photos and circumference measurements (wrist, forearm, elbow, armpit area)
Partial improvement with antibiotics, systemic discomfort continues
No fever recorded, though personal medical history shows limited fever responses
Product Concern:
The rake was unusual in that it had no plastic or wood handle: entirely unfinished bare metal
Possible unsealed or untreated surface may have released metal fragments, leading to subdermal infection
No safety warnings were provided on packaging
Action Taken:
Seller contacted (Temu), and a refund was issued without acknowledgment of product fault
Continued symptoms have prompted this safety report to inform potential investigation and prevent harm to others
Notes: I am submitting this report without definitive proof that the product caused my injury, but the temporal connection and absence of other exposures strongly suggest it as the likely source.
