First aid Made Sep 19, 2011, sent to the company Sep 26, 2011, published by CPSC Oct 12, 2011
The product, in the report: spading fork, 4 black diamond back tines stamped “AUSTRIA”, approximately 40 inches, black plastic “D” handle, red steel collar, NEW, was in use for first time when injury occurred
product: Ames True Temper spading fork #1812200 UPC: 0 49206 18122 9 I bought this tool new at Lowe’s Home Improvement Center, 09/11/2011. I first used this tool 09/18/2011. While using this tool to turn loose soil in my garden, the pin that secures the “D” handle to the end of the handle broke, or came loose, and then protruded about .5 inch. I didn’t notice this immediately, and continued to use the tool. The next time I thrust the tool into the ground and it met resistance, my hand slipped along the handle, and the protruding pin ripped through my skin and muscle of my right hand between thumb and forefinger, causing me a painful injury requiring first aid.
