First aid Made Aug 25, 2024, sent to the company Aug 28, 2024, published by CPSC Sep 12, 2024
The product, in the report: Honda self-pull smart Drive lawnmower, red in color,21 inch, handlebars are black, and grass catch is black with Honda written on it. I don’t have UPC code. It was out of box, and I didn’t get box that it came in. It was new and did have the oil to put in it. It’s been so long ago about my injury I don’t have picture of it. It was my fingers and right hand when I pulled the rope it tore my hand and fingers and made me fall backward, the fall didn’t hurt me luckily.
The pull rope to start the Honda lawn mower, slips and came all the way out, and I fell backward but was unhurt on the fall. My right hand was injured I had finger tear of skin and hand was torn of the skin. As a result of this I was unable to use the mower for several days, until I could get the starting rope back into the cranking wheel of the mower.

No incident, no one hurt Made May 13, 2024, sent to the company May 16, 2024, published by CPSC May 31, 2024
The product, in the report: Honda HRN 166-cc 21-in Self-propelled Gas Lawn Mower HRN216VYAA MANA-2351013
My mower (Honda HRN 166-cc 21-in Self-propelled Gas Lawn Mower HRN216VYAA) stopped working and caught on fire end of April 2024. I called Lowe’s where I purchased the mower from April 9, 2023. I was told Honda RECALLED all their mowers and Lowe’s no longer had a contract with Honda. I was told I had to contact Honda they no longer could help me. I then contacted Honda and told me to take my Mower to one of their repair shops that it was warrantied for 3 years. I took it to their repair shop [REDACTED] The told me I ruined my mower and the engine was dead. They didn’t even contact Honda. I explained it caught on fire. He told me he put gas in it and put on a new spark plug? Its dead and not repairable. That I had to pay for their services. I asked did you even contact Honda? He said no. I said I was told its under warranty. They said they knew Honda would not cover it; it was my fault. I said wait a minute it’s not for you to decide whether or not to contacted them. I then contacted Honda again and explained this mower caught on fire and the repair shop is stating this is my fault. But when I originally called in Honda said the mower was defective. They put a case manager on it, and he contacted the repair shop and came back and said they agreed with the repair and completely ignored the fact it caught on fire. Told me I owed the repair company that they wouldnt cover it even though they sent me there. I said mowers dont catch on fire. It was obviously defective. They dismissed me and said this is their decision and that is that. I now have to pay them, and I dont have a mower. What was more upsetting is after I was told this was my problem I asked if they even opened the engine up and I was told no. So how can you tell me if you didn’t fully take apart my mower and fully examine it that this is my fault. They said when I was having problems with the cap kept falling off my filter, I should have brought it in. That they put the filter cap on, and it didn’t fall off. Here is the part I really have an issue with beside it catching on fire. The lawn mower supposedly is dead. So how can you test the filter cap from falling off while the mower is running if you can’t start the mower? I had my last one 12 years. I know how to take care of a mower. I used it on my yard at my home. Im seeing all sorts of complaints and issues with these mowers. I feel like because Im an older female I am being completely disrespected. Treated like Im an idiot and talked down to. I would appreciate any assistance I could get. When I first called Honda, I had a very nice woman who when I told her it caught on fire, she agreed the mower was defective and still under warranty for 2 more years. Serial number MANA-2351013. Honda did a recall of all their mowers from Lowes for a reason. There are tons of people with complaints all over the web and video’s on [REDACTED].
UPDATED ON 5/31/2024: [To clarify I told the repair shop that the mower filter COVER kept falling off. At no time did I state I was running the mower without a filter. The filter was removed due to the fact it caught on fire. Which is why I did not have it when I went to the repair shop who also bashed Honda because they were going all electric. They didn’t want to be bothered with myself or the lawnmower.
Then to receive a phone call from the same gentleman at Honda who was investigating my case in less then 24 hours of my report being sent to Honda stating his management went over everything and they agreed with the repair shop. Also being told that they put the filter cover on and it stayed? It wasn’t running? How can you make a statement like that and when I asked did they take the mower apart they stated No they are fairly sure they know what the issue is but if I want to pay to have it pulled apart I can???? I’m already out $650 for the mower.
The reviews on this machine are all over the internet on what a horrible mower this is and how cheaply made it is. A lot of people have after 1 year like myself had to replace it.
What a nightmare. ]
