The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jul 9, 2019, sent to the company Jul 23, 2019, published by CPSC Aug 6, 2019

The product, in the report: gasoline powered engine on Craftman self propelled lawn mower.

The Briggs & Stratton engine model # 104M050072F1 is deficient in design. The fuel cap cannot be secured tightly, resulting in the cap coming off when the lawn mower is in use. Gasoline splashes onto a hot engine directly adjacent to a now wide open gasoline tank. I do not know if any fires have resulted from this condition, but it would be surprising if there have not been.

I have attempted to express my concerns with Briggs & Stratton, only to be told that my machine’s warranty would be handled by a dealer. I am not concerned about the price of a replacement cap. I am concerned about the safety of the product.
