  1. No one hurt

Made Aug 17, 2026, sent to the company Aug 20, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 4, 2026

The product, in the report: LG washer, white color. 4.5 CF FL washer wifi white (WM4000HWA). LG dryer, white color 7.4CF electric dryer (DLEX4000W).

I purchased a new LG stackable washer and drier on July 7, 2026. From the first use of both products my nose and chest would fill with mucus and I would sneeze and have trouble breathing. Initially I thought it would pass as I know new products can off gas and may take time to burn off the smell. We continued to use the product and after 3 weeks when it did not improve I contacted the retailer who put me in touch with LG. I was contacted via text and phone by LG and explained to them in detail that the products were causing a health issue with me from the symptoms noted above. This was fully documented in my text message to them. [REDACTED] who is the person I was working with at LG sent recommendations of how to improve/accelerate the off gassing. I completed each one and while there was a small improvement in my symptoms, they still create an unhealthy reaction every time I use the units. I have even gone so far as to use a large fan, opening the window and it still does not make a difference. LG sent out a tech to look at the units but all that he did was make sure they actually worked, there was no air testing done. When I spoke to LG on August 10th they said they were closing the case as the products actually work even though it is causing me health issues.

The product, in the report: Washing Machine

The consumer says the unit has a strong odor that is making her sick. She didn’t know until today that the machine creates mold. This is according to a representative of the retailer. Her brother went online who saw numerous reports of the same thing happening. She was told she has to keep cleaning the drawer with mold.

She says that she cannot continue to do this as it effects her asthma. The retailer is telling her that she needs a cleaning agent along with the washer. The consumer says it is wrong to knowingly sell this machine to someone.
