The product, in the report: GE top load washer. Model no GTW685BSL1WS; Serial No. RR206438G
GE washer model no. GTW685BSL1WS catastrophically self destructed during a spin cycle with waterproof bedding in the machine. It moved several feet across the floor. Ejected internal parts out of the room (the control knob) and inside the laundry room (the plastic guard for the drum that sits between the drum and inside the metal casing of the machine and the top of the agitator) despite the lid having a functional lock. The outside casing separated between the top and the side and the entire control panel separated from the machine. This created a dangerous situation for anyone in close proximity to the machine.

The product, in the report: Dimensions W 28 in.x H 39.75 in.x D 32 in. White front loading GE washer [REDACTED]
I have a front loading GE washer MODEL #GFW550SSN5WW. We bought it a year and a half ago and all the sudden it alerted us that the door wasnt latched when it was. So we ran the diagnostic test and it pointed to a defective door latch. So I bought a new one and replaced it myself. It suddenly malfunctioned, forced locked and was smoking. So we had a GE tech come out and say it needs a new door latch AND control board. He said he has fixed 3 of these so far. Im wondering when they will recall it because of the smoke and the fact that I paid $800 18 months ago and then I had to pay another $400 today for parts and labor.

The product, in the report: 4.8 Cu/Ft. Combination Washer & Dryer (one unit) with Inverter heat pump technology. This product washes dirt from clothes with soap and water, then utilizes a heat pump to generate enough heat to dry the same clothes that it washed without removal. After the wash and dry cycle/s are complete, the clothes are removed and ready to be used or storage.
WHAT HAPPENED TO MAKE YOU WANT TO REPORT? - We purchased, installed and attempted to use a NEW GE (General Electric) 4.8 Cu/Ft. Washer/Dryer Combination (one unit) in our home walk in room also known as a Walkin Closet. These unit/s (we tried 2 different NEW units) produced a pungent odor that irritated our throats, drifted into our home and permeated the clothes hanging in our Walkin Closet. ALL of these GE unit/s generate heat. IMO (In My Opinion) the heat produced is high enough to make the internal thermo plastic components GAS OFF detectable fumes. IMO these odiferous gases are obnoxious and may be noxious and/or pathogenic and dangerous to ALL living mammals. We feel it is our civic duty to warn others and report this product to you The USA Federal Government. IMO this product should be tested in a laboratory-controlled environment. What ever is creating the odor should be analyzed and verified to be safe to mammals. At the very least, consumers should be alerted to the fact that these units do generate odors that are and were obnoxious, objectionable and an irritant to some end users. WHAT TYPE OF PRODUCT WERE BEING USED? - GE Profile Combination Washer & Dryer 4.8 Cu/Ft. GE Model Number is PFQ97HSPV0DS. Unit utilizes Inverter heat pump technology. HOW WERE THE PRODUCTS BEING USED? - AS DESIGNED, to wash and dry clothes. WERE THERE ANY INJURIES THAT HAPPENED or MAY HAVE HAPPENED WHILE USING THE PRODUCT? - Unknown at this time. IMO, There are an untold number of consumers who may be putting lives in danger if my OPINIONS are proven to be correct! Further testing is suggested. HOW DID ANY INJURIES OCCUR? - By using the product as designed, released for sale and used.

The product, in the report: The washing machine is a top load General Electric model GTW680BSJ4WS
Our washing machine had a failure that caused the drum to come loose and throw the machine 2 feet away from the wall while destroying the cabinet of the washing machine. The washing machine is a GE model GTW680BSJ4WS. The washing machine was in the garage without anyone nearby when the incident occured and was being used to wash laundry. No injuries occured, but had anyone been standing near the machine there would have been enough force to cause injury.

The product, in the report: Top load washing machine
7/26/2024: The washer was delivered to the consumer’s home.
7/29/2024: The very first time the consumer used the washer, she noticed a strong chemical odor.
The plastic that surrounds the top of the washer’s interior tub emitted a strong chemical odor, the very first time the washer was used. There is also an upper ring that is grey in color, which emits an odor as well.
The odor caused the consumer to experience breathing issues, neurological issues, she became shaky, and could not catch her breath. She finished the load of clothes in the washer and discontinued use of it. She has kept the washer’s lid closed since that time. However, if she goes near the washer, her symptoms return within seconds.
She called the company, and their rep. indicated that they would send a service technician to examine it before proceeding further.
8/1/2024: A manufacturer’s service technician came out and said there was nothing he could do, because he repaired machine, but could not fix the odor.

The product, in the report: Washing Machine
The consumer indicates that he put a load of laundry in his washing machine. Approximately thirty to forty minutes he returned to check on the unit and noticed that it had exploded. The washer was off its stand and turned sideways with parts blown out and dangling off the unit. The consumer unplugged the washing machine and turned the water off. The consumer notes that the machine indicated that it was on its spin cycle, and that he did not hear the explosion as he was out on his yard.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative he spoke to scheduled for a service technician to inspect the unit on 05/03/2024.
The consumer states that the unit is used three to four times per week.
The consumer is unsure if he will keep his washing machine for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: stackable washing machine with dryer on top
2016: Within 6 months of purchasing the washer, it began to make an extremely loud noise, when in use. The consumer contacted the manufacturer, and a service technician was sent out.
The technician told him that a bearing inside the washer was lose and it should not be. The consumer called the manufacturer, and their rep. told him that the noise was normal, and nothing was wrong with it.
The noise got worse over time. Within 1 – 2 years, the consumer contacted the manufacturer, and they sent a new technician out. The manufacturer wanted to charge the consumer for the part, but he refused. A manufacturer’s technician replaced a bearing in the washer and the company covered the cost. The problem was corrected. However, the technician also told the consumer that the washer had been worked on before and that the dealer appeared to have sold him a reconditioned washer.
Off an on, over the past 3 – 4 years, the washer made a noise when it was emptying water. Over time the noise got extremely worse, where his neighbor complained. Finally, the washer locked up and would no longer work properly..
The consumer removed the front of the washer and saw some of the damage to parts inside of it. He also consulted a friend, who is a technician, who told him that there was most likely a problem with the pump that removes water from the washer.
The consumer is concerned that this could contribute or cause a fire/electrical problem.

The product, in the report: GE UltraFresh Vent System 4.8-cu ft Stackable Smart Front-Load Washer (White) ENERGY STAR
I have a GE washing machine, Model number GFW550SSN4WW, that has been leaking water for several months. During the first service call we learned that it came from the manufacturer defective, missing essential parts that would prevent the water from leaking. After waiting a month for the part to come in stock the machine was repaired. Within 3 cycles the machine began to leak again, except unlike previously when the machine would turn off, this time it did not. This resulted in my father, who is 72, being shocked when he walked in the laundry room with bare feet. I have called GE to request a replacement machine and informed them of this risk, and they have to date been non-responsive.

No one hurt Made Dec 18, 2023, sent to the company Jan 4, 2024, published by CPSC Jan 22, 2024
The product, in the report: GE - Model: GTW680BSJ5WS Serial: HL184019G Washing machine, top load with window, white/grey
I am writing to describe an incident and requested compensation for a dangerous incident that occurred in my home on November 16th, 2023 involving a GE (General Electric) washing machine.
Our six year-old machine (Model: GTW680BSJ5WS Serial: HL184019G) exploded feet away from my sixteen month-old son. The force of the explosion was such that it expulsed the machine feet off the wall, warped the sides, and concussed the adjacent (GE) dryer. It also spewed black liquid as far as about six feet onto neighboring furniture and walls.
I called GE Consumer Relations and was told a technician would come to “evaluate” the damage on November 30th. As that would be nearly two weeks without a resolution, I requested a sooner date, and was told someone would arrive on November 20th. That morning, a technician called, but refused to arrive, since we told him the machine was irreparable.
I then called GE Consumer Relations, again, and was told, after escalation to [REDACTED], that the machine was out of warranty and therefore they were only able to offer a feeble discount on a new machine.
I have two small children, one of which the machine could have seriously maimed or killed from the force of the explosion, and accepted the new machine offer to minimize my time without a washing machine.
In the meantime, I have incurred inconvenience and expenses taking our laundry to various family and friends’ homes, but the more disturbing issue at hand is how GE’s representatives have been chillingly nonchalant about a fairly young machine that exploded with profound force mere feet from a baby. [REDACTED] was unabashedly resolute in 1) not admitting any fault and 2) refusing, many times, to cover the full cost of a new machine in any shape or form. [REDACTED] then refused to admit any fault, and offered me a feeble discount on a downgraded model machine (it doesn’t even have a window!), which we had to accept given that we needed a washing machine, and we had to pay $537.00 for. I requested compensation / a new upgraded machine equal to or better than the one that exploded and was vehemently denied.

No one hurt Made Apr 21, 2023, sent to the company Apr 26, 2023, published by CPSC May 10, 2023
The product, in the report: General electric washing machine white in color
On Sunday, March 26, 2023, at approximately 11:30 in the morning I was washing a mattress pad. I was using a GE washing machine that I’ve had for 5 1/2 years. As it was entering the final spin I had checked on it to see how much time was left. Approximately two minutes later, it literally exploded. As I entered the wash area, I fully expected to see a wall blown out and possibly a car in my house, it made that much noise. It had not previously been rocking like it was unbalanced. it put holes in two of our walls dented our dryer and was thrown facedown onto the floor. We were fortunate that nobody was hurt because had my two-year-old granddaughter that I babysit been here, she could very well have been hit by it and I have no doubt it would have, at a bare minimum caused severe brain injury, or possibly even killed her. After this happened, I got online and started reading that this does happen with some frequency. We called GE who sent out a technician who did say yes it had exploded and he had seen it one other time. He gave us no reason for why it happens. as I said, I am seeing a lot of instances with multiple washing machines having this happen and I believe most of the time they are the high-efficiency ones. GE has refused any compensation. They claimed they sent an email on April 5 the day after the technician was here, saying that we could pay $570 towards a new one of the same brand, and they would cover the rest . we never received that email until I called yesterday April 20. I believe it is, and they resent it. It is now Nolan void since we didn’t contact them immediately. Plus, I’ve already purchased another one and they will not rebate it back. My concern is this apparently has been an issue for a number of years from what I’m reading and nothings been done and nobody knows it’s happening.

The product, in the report: GE Washer - Front Loader model GFW490RPK0DG
GE Washer Front Loader model GFW490RPK0DG during spin cycle sounds like a jet aircraft engine in takeoff. There was a puddle of water in front of the washer, which I slipped on as I entered the Washroom, but I caught myself and avoided a fall. I was not injured. GE Washer is only three years old. The first technician reported that the Basket and main bearing needed to be replaced while noting that he has had other customers with the same problem. The first technician stated that it appeared that the GE basket and main bearing were defective parts. A second, GE technician on a repair call on 13 September confirmed that the Basket and Main Bearing needed to be replaced. GE technician claimed the parts were not defective, but that “the damage was due to the types of bulky clothing that were being washed in the machine.” GE technician refused to classify the damaged parts as “defective”. We are a family of three doing on average two to three loads of laundry a week. We have never washed loads of bulky clothing in our GE washer.

The product, in the report: General Electric washing machine, white in color, model number GTW750CSL0WS, serial number LL137130G
My GE washing machine exploded while a small load of sheets were inside. The drum dislodged inside and dented the outside, and a large piece (24 inches in circumference) flew out of the top through the locked lid, spewing water everywhere, and hitting the wall before landing on the floor. Fortunately, I was not in the laundry room at the time, or I would have been significantly injured, and if it had hit my 6-week old child, I doubt she would have survived.

The product, in the report: GE top loader white washer 4.2 cubic feet
GE top loader NEW washer 4.2 Model # GTW460ASJWW is making me and my son ill when I run it. It is off gassing bad metallic chemical smells giving me and my family headaches, neck pain, aches and heart palpitations and asthma symptoms when we are near it for 5 minutes.(signs of chemical toxicity) I have allergies and do not think I can return the product, without a charge. I’ve heard many of the new models smell terrible and leave peoples clothes smelling like chemicals. This is horribly unacceptable. I also received a new Sears refrigerator last year from my landlord. The plastic smell seized my lungs up and I had to go to emergency room for allergy steroid shot..and take {REDACTED] for 2 weeks. Why and what are these toxic materials allowed in our appliances and homes? [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Its a Washing Machine !
This is the Same Problem Reported on May 4 2018 and Exactly the Same thing Happened Under the Same Conditions. This is a General Electric Washing Machine Model GTW485ASJ2WS. This is the 3rd or 4th Time the machine has Started Up and it Sounds as though the washer is either washing or draining water from it ? The water is Off, the Power Lights and all other mode lights are Off. No Lights are On but the power plug is Plugged into the Outlet. The machine had clothes in the tub and had been sitting for hours with No Power Lights On. I was watching tv at 11 pm when I heard the Washer come on, I went into the laundry and Recorded the video for about 3 minutes until it decided to stop ? I waited 30 seconds and opened the lid and mode lights came on and went out on 30 seconds later ?The machine does not have a on or off switch it has a touch pad to operate the machine. The Start / Pause button says to hold for 3 seconds to stop. We are Scared to Sleep or Go Away from home Unless the Power Cord is Pulled from the Receptacle and water turned off ? No one knows if the machine would start up and run all night, flood the house if water was left on ? This has Happened Four Times of which I have 2 or 3 Videos of the washer running as above.

General Electric Model GTW485ASJ2WS. This machine at times when power turned off and the water supply turned off. At times has started up and sounds as though it is draining whatever water is in the machine and continues with whatever process until it decides to stop on its own or if the door is opens then stops. This has started a few times and 2 times I have recorded part of this process. It may take 3 minutes before it stops. My wife leaves clothing in the machine to soak overnight. I do not know if the machine only starts up only after this is done ? Either way the washer is always turned off but electric cord is not disconnected. This washing machine does not have a Separate Power Switch to Directly Turn Off the Machine only a Touch Pad. My wife is Afraid to leave the washing machine Unattended for a period of time without turning the water Off, for fear of the washing machine coming on and possibly filling the machine with water or Flooding the laundry floor. When we are not home the water is turned off and the washing machine id Unplugged for Safety.

Washer machine has been harboring mold after following all manual directions on maintenance . The smell kept coming from washer and now will not go away and render the washer useless. This product is only a few years old and started about 2 years into owning it. The description of the washer is a stainless steel tub but not completely. When trying to resolve the washer issue i remove the agitator of the machine and notice extensive bacteria growth and oxidation on part of the washer that supposed to be a stainless part. Deceptive in marketing , since the part is not entirely stainless. Sanitizing would never affect the areas when doing so as the manual describes. Ruins clothes and gives them a cheese like odor. The machine is attached to a complete home filtration system and runs on town water which is EPA approved source.

The product, in the report: Washing machine
Our GE washing machine, model number GTWN2800D1, purchased in March 2015, overflowed in the fill cycle and flooded several rooms of our house. The cause of the overflow was a defective Load Size switch. The switch has a RESET position that it is turned to by hand and then released to select a “super size” load, or turned further counterclockwise to select a smaller load size. The load size that is selected determines the amount of water allowed into the tub before it automatically stops filling. The load size switch is spring-loaded to cause it to spring back from the RESET position when the hand is released. The Owner’s Manual states (p. 4) under Load Size: “Loosely load items in the washer basket. Overloading may negatively impact wash performance. Adjust the load size accordingly.” And, under Reset it says: “If you decide that you want a higher water level, move the Load Size first to Reset, and then to the higher water setting.” Nowhere is a warning or caution given to stay with the machine while it is filling, or that it will continue to fill if the switch becomes defective and becomes stuck in the RESET position instead of springing back. That is what happened in our case.
The overflow and flooding that occurred caused a serious slip and fall hazard because of the water on the floor and because of detergent and other wash additives in the water. Also, there is the electrical shock hazard if the overflowing water reached an electrical outlet, which can readily happen if there is a power strip located on the floor of any of the flooded rooms.
GE was at fault for designing a switch on a washer that could fail and cause flooding. There was no fail-safe designed into the machine to detect and stop the water at a certain fill level or when it was overflowing. An appliance service technician replaced the defective switch and confirmed it was the cause of the overflow.

In August my husband was home doing laundry. We have a GE Heavy Duty Super Capacity top loading washing machine. Serial No. DH16788G. While he was doing laundry my son-in-law yelled to my husband that the washing machine was smoking. They unplugged the washing machine so it would’t catch fire, but it did smoke up the house. In September I saw the class action suit against GE for the same type of problem, but my washing machine was not on the list. However, it did the same thing. Is there anything I can do about this?

I am writing you because of a problem I have found with a GE washer mod. # GEWH2400 . There is a door seal that has a very deep ridge which is unseen unless the part is pulled apart and closely observed. The ring is exposed to the wash water and there is a mold build up that can occur, that a consumer will never find, exposing the water to mold which in turn exposes people to the mold. Baby’s are at a higher risk of health exposure, which can cause a multitude of problems.
The manufacture should make consumers aware or the problem or redesign the ring. I have enclosed pictures of it.
I have informed the mfr. of the problem as well.

The product, in the report: Front Loading Washer
The consumer stated that within six months to a year of purchasing the washer, he started having issues with the washer banging on the floor and hitting the nearby dryer.
The consumer contacted the retailer in regards to the issues. The unit was under warranty through the retailer. The consumer was sent out a technician for inspection. The technician determined that a part (shock device) had to be replaced. The technician replaced the part during his visit.
The consumer stated that the issue reoccurred about a month later.
The consumer contacted the retailer again for the issue. The consumer was sent out another technician who replaced the shock device part again. They informed him to lighten up the load. The consumer stated that the clothes did not completely dry. They informed him to put the load on dry-spin cycle if the clothes weren’t completely dry.
The issue again reoccurred within 1-2 months. The consumer lived with the problem for a few years. The warranty on the unit had expired by then.
About a year to year and half ago, the consumer contacted an independent technician. The technician replaced the same shock device. The consumer stated that the technician also adjusted the pedestal so that the unit was balanced. The consumer also lightened up the wash load. This allowed the banging to become less. The consumer paid about $350 for repair.
The consumer had the unit looked at again by a different independent technician from [REDACTED] (Snellville, GA) on 5/14/15. The technician tested the unit and took it back to his shop. The consumer was contacted to come into the shop on 05/16/15 to look at the unit. The technician showed the consumer that the rubber gasket appears to have been installed incorrectly by the manufacturer. That incorrect installation cause the bearing to throw off and cause issues with his unit. The consumer was notified that this was a manufacturer’s defect.
The technician put in a rush order on the part to have it replaced. In the meantime, the consumer was provided a loaner washer while the repair work is being conducted. The consumer will be paying $350 for the part and labor.
The consumer had a separate 5 year retailer’s warranty on the unit. The consumer stated that the retailer failed to inspect the unit properly while it was being repaired under warranty. The technicians that came out through the retailer never took the unit completely apart from the back to examine the issues.
The consumer’s unit does not appear to be under any recalls.
The technician mention the rubber seal gasket may have been a manufacturer defect. There was out of pocket expenses for necessary repairs. This problem wasn’t determined until after the consumer’s extended warranty expired! Thank you, [REDACTED]

GE Top Loading Washer Model No.: GTWN4950LW Seriel No.: TV119504
I bought this unit over 2 yrs. ago. A couple of weeks ago (I think it was 01/23) in the middle of the night we smelled smoke; the entire upstairs of our townhouse was filled with dark grey smoke...it smelled like burned plastic.
The Fire Dept. traced it to the Washer, unplugged it, and cleared the smoke from the house. The washer had not been in use for over a week as we had been out of town.
I contacted GE Consumer Relations; they sent a technician out who said he had never seen this issue before. The motor was covered in melted plastic from the drum above and the drum had a large area that was melted and charred around the edges.
I also had an electrician check to make sure the issue wasn’t in the wiring and he indicated everything looked OK.
GE is saying they want to come and get the unit for further testing as they haven’t had issues with this unit in the past.
I would hope they have to report this failure to someone....it is very scary. We really only woke up b/c the cat was bothering us, otherwise I don’t know what would have happened.

The product, in the report: GE Front load electric washing machine. Model WCVH 6800J1MS Serial # RR200001T silver/gray color
This is a GE front load washer, Model WCVH 6800J1MS, approximately 4 years old. On occasion the unit becomes out of balance and has a slight “plastic” odor. With just a visual inspection the washer appears fine. After only a few more uses, and minimal clothing load, the washer shakes violently and fills the room with smoke. We immediately turn off the breaker and clear the smoke. After inspecting the washer it is discovered the bellows gasket at the front of the washer drum shows wear in the area the two make contact. After researching the cause online and in several calls to repairman this is believed to be a design problem with bearings and shaft. This would have been a house fire had we not been home to cut off the power. I believe these washers pose a huge risk as most laundry in a washer is left unattended. Similar models have been recalled for bearing issues. I believe these should be added as they pose a “FIRE HAZARD” as well as an “INJURY RISK”.

Washing Machine Rear Counter Balance weight broke from its mounts , and caused damage to the belt and drum . This occurred shortly after a software change was made due to recall . I believe that the machine should have been inspected during the recall repairs , to preclude any other damage due to the instability of the drum . When the weight became unattached , it rubbed on the rear pulley , and created smoke , and heat due to friction . eventually the belt broke , but the motor pulley continued to rub on the belt , resulting in more smoke .

The product, in the report: GE Front Load Washer
A few weeks ago we were doing a normal load of laundry in our home GE washing machine. We noticed a smell (like burning plastic/rubber) coming from our utility room. When the washer was opened, the smell became much stronger. Several of the items were scorched and and elastic waistband from one item was actually melted to the inside of the washer’s drum. We looked and found that GE had recalled over 180,000 washer for fire hazards, but that our model was not one of them. We contacted GE and they sent a repairman who informed us that most likely our drum was broken and that the cost to replace it would be over twice the original cost of the washer (6 years old). We asked if this was a recall issue that should be reported and he said that we would have to contact GE directly. We did contact GE with our concerns about the safety of the machine and the fact that it could be dangerous to other families. Instead of addressing the safety concerns, a representative responded by saying that they could offer us a prorated machine, but made it very clear that this offer was dependent upon allowing GE to remove the original machine from our home. When we declined the offer and expressed our concern that GE acknowledge the safety concerns, we received a second offer for a more expensive machine for a lesser cost. Once again it was made clear that the original machine had to be removed by a GE representative from our home in order to receive this deal. It seemed alarming to us, almost as if GE were trying to cover up the safety issues associated with the machine. We decided to hold onto the machine (that still has clothing residue on the inside) as well as the scorched clothing for investigation. We do not want anything to happen to another family because we chose not to report.

The product, in the report: White - GE® Energy Star® 3.7 IEC Cu. Ft. King-size Capacity Frontload Washer with Stainless Steel Basket (Washer)
In August of 2007 I purchased a GE WBVH5100HWW Model Washer. Ge replaced the washer without my consent with a WCVH6260HWW Model Washer. After just over 5 years the washer catastrophically failed with the failure mode being a fire. GE service was called and visited the home. They left after inspecting it and indicating without a formal quote stating that it would cost approximately 700 dollars. I contacted GE as I felt that this washer should not have such a failure at this age. I was told that they would split the cost of parts and repairs and I would basically have to pay the difference of about $350 Dollars. That conversation occurred on 11/15/12. I was placed on hold by Customer Relations and upon return to the phone confirmed parts were ordered and a service date set for 11/23. I was accepting of this solution. On 11/21/12, I received a call from a service technician asking if he could come by the house to make an estimate for repair. I advised that a repair technician had already come to the house. He informed me that he was the technician who came to the house but had not completed a formal estimate. After requesting about 10 mins to formalize the estimate he returned the call only to advise that the repairs would in fact cost double what I was actually told. In reviewing this model as well as the one I originally ordered It was observed that the Model I originally ordered had a recall for the same issue that I experienced with the model sent. I placed an additional call to GE consumer relations, however did not speak to the same case manage as she was not available. I was offered to purchase a new Washer deeply discounted from the MSRP of *((. As a GE employee I can purchase the model suggested for $622. At this point GE has not answered questions regarding the faulty design, Why I was shipped a discontinued model not what they are willing to due to rectify this situation.

The product, in the report: GE High Efficiency Washer Model WCVH6260HWW Serial Number AM2050247 installed new August of 2007 was reported to GE Consumer Relations as a product safety issue for fires. A case number [REDACTED] was opened by GE and later disregarded as an out of warranty product despite having a fire risk. The fire risk occured when after only 5 years the basket bearing failed. This resulted in the basket tumbler unit to rock back and forth. The rubber gasket between the washer basket tumbler and access door heats up from friction during the spin cycle and begins to smoke thus presenting a fire risk. If the consumer is not home to monitor wash cycles the fire could spread without consumer knowledge while they are away from the home or sleeping. The estimated cost to repair the washer was $1300 and provided by a GE appliance repair service which is higher then a new unit. GE was only willing to provide a minimal discount on another GE unit and was not concerned about fire risks. The washer will be scrapped on 8/17/2012 and replaced by a non-GE made appliance.
