On March 14, 2018, approximately 2300 hours, my Electrolux Frigidaire gas dryer caught on fire. This single unit (unitize) Frigidaire dryer/washer model number is: FFLG2022MW3, serial number: 4E43913102. We have had this dryer/washer unit since December 2014. We do laundry about twice a week and made sure the lint trap was lint free and the unit is level.
The dryer/washer is located in our garage. We were in bed asleep upstairs when the dryer fire started. We heard an alarm go off but thought that it was outside the house. Seconds later, I smelled smoke inside the house. I ran out to the backyard and saw lots of smoke coming from the dryer exhaust vent. As soon as I opened the dryer door, it was still spinning with flames that look like a crematorium.
I extinguished the flames and immediately turned off the gas supply. It was the garage smoke alarm that saved our lives.

I washed a few very small throw pillows this morning and the top one came out shredded. I noticed that the top rim of the washers tub is plastic. The plastic is sharp from it looks like it was melted or cut some how. We have owned this washer for less that 2 months and just noticed the sharp edges. How ever this happened now makes the washer dangerous to clothes and operators (humans).

I have a front load washer that has mold on rubber seal. It is hazardous & unsafe to my health. I had contacted co. & Better Bus. Bureau few years ago. The co. only said I can pay for replacement at my own cost. I also contacted a lawyer for class action suit but nothing ever was resolved. I cannot afford to replace so I still live with this condition. I simply wanted it replace at no cost to me. after the fact they suggest to leave door open but it is too late for that! I think it is a safety hazard too leave door open for young kids & pets. I have tried all suggestions to clean with bleach & vinegar but nothing works. Even wipe it down after each use which is time consuming & doesn’t work. I would appreciate any help in this product defect.

I have a frigidaire affinity front load washing machine made by electrolux. There is a rubber seal to seal the front door which is growing black mold. We have bleached it several times and it will not come. The smell is terrible and our clothes are beginning to smell like mold. I contacted the company and my machine is out of the warranty date. Very dissatisfied with this product and may never buy another Frigidaire.

On 4/09/2008 we purchase a front load Frigidaire washing machine and dryer. I immediately noticed that mold was collecting in the rubber around the entrance of the door. As I lived with it, it became worse. November 2, 2009, I called an appliance service. First I called Pacific Sales and they said the one year warranty was no longer in affect and there was nothing they could do.
The appliance service replaced the door bellows kit, the technical name for the rubber around the opening to washing machine.
Since then it has been exactly the same, it is the same, otherwise it wouldn’t fit. I clean the black mold as well as I can and spray bleach, the odor is unbearable. I have extremely dry eyes, and this affects our breathing, taking in these mold odors. I use an additional spin to help dry out the water in the door bellows. I leave the door open after every wash. There is no door to the laundry room right outside the kitchen, it’s an archway. I wash just about every day, and cannot stand this anymore. I know mold is not a good thing to be around, and I can only imagine what the clothes we are wearing are affected.

The consumer states that 6 months after purchasing the washer the consumer’s husband noticed a strange odor coming from the washer. Around that time the consumer also began noticing a strange odor on their clothes and other items that were washed in the washer.
Approximately a year after purchasing the washer the consumer noticed mold near the door of the washer. The consumer states that the mold continues to grow and has become worse over time.
The consumer feels that her and her husband’s allergy symptoms have become worse these past 2 years and it may be from the exposure of mold in the washer. The consumer feels that her 4 year old granddaughter’s severe allergies may also be caused from the exposure to mold from the washer. For the past 3 years the consumer has babysat her granddaughter 5 days a week.
The consumer visits her physician twice a year regarding her allergies. The consumer’s husband visits the physician 4 times a year regarding his allergies.
The symptoms that the consumer, her husband and granddaughter have are itchy eyes and throat, irritation of the nose and headaches. The consumer and her husband have received steroid shots and prescribed medication from their physician. The consumer’s granddaughter has visited a pediatrician and has been prescribed allergy medication.
The consumer uses the washer at least 3 times a week. The consumer feels does not feel safe using the washer anymore. The consumer states her daughter has a similar washer and there is also mold near the door.

We purchased the front load washer and dryer. We have a horrible mold issue with the rim of our washer and in the soap dispenser that we cannot get rid of. The dryer also does not seem to catch the lint and it builds up. I am worried about my family getting sick from the mold or my dryer starting a fire.

The consumer would like to file a report because she feels her front loading washer poses a safety and a fire hazard.
08/14/2014 The consumer reports that she was awaken in the middle of the night by the sound of her washer having turned itself on while its door was opened. Because the washer does not have an On/Off switch, the consumer tried to shut off the machine through its Cancel button but was unable to. The consumer’s husband had to switch the breaker off that was supplying electricity to the machine in order to stop it. The consumer indicates that the machine was not set to any particular setting despite it having turned on.
08/15/2014 (Approximate) The consumer contacted the manufacturer and explained what happened. The representative she spoke to informed her that she had never heard that happen before with one of their units. She advised the consumer to try and turn the washer on again to see if it would work or to contact a Technician to inspect her unit. The consumer proceeded by turning her unit on once and reports that it worked fine until now.
10/28/2014 The consumer reports that the clothes washer turned itself on again while its door was opened. She indicates that it was making loud clicking noises, similar to what it does when the washer is in use. Once again, the machine was not set to any specific setting. The consumer tried closing the door to her unit and it would not allow her to shut it. She hit the Cancel button and nothing happened so she had to switch off the breaker supplying electricity to the unit once again.
The consumer indicates that her washer looks physically fine. She plans on contacting both the retailer and the manufacturer to see if they can provide any assistance with it.
The consumer first contacted Frigidaire some time un Aug. with this problem. Since then the retailer has been contacted. Frigidaire has been called on 10/27-10/30-11/4-11/6. The consumer was told they would send a new control board at a reduced price. Consumer contacted retailer on 2 occasions & was told a fax with the amount of purchase price to Frigidaire. Frigidaire would not send part without proof of amount and states they have not received the 2 faxes sent. [REDACTED]

This machine not only DOES NOT wash clothes IF the machine does not have a full load, BUT it fills with water WHEN IT IS NOT TURNED ON. If you have the door open, in order to prevent mold/mildue which front load machines produce very easily, your area fills with water.
While not safety issue as far as harming people, it does and has, harmed our floors TWICE! Now we leave the door closed and put up with the mildew that forms. And THAT, Mildew, is a harmful thing to people, especially if yo have asthma!
Hopefully someone can get these companies to produce first quality appliances like they used to.

On December 1, 2012 I purchased a new Frigidaire laundry pair, top load washer and front load dryer. Upon preparing to wash clothes I raised the lid and it fell down on my head. On many occasions after that the lid would not stay securely up and I would have to be careful to make sure it was stable. I noticed how flimsy and loose the lid was and how easy it was to come down. Each time I wash clothes I have to pay close attention to the lid. One time when I was lifting the lid and reaching for the clothes detergent at the same time, not paying as close attention as I should, I almost had my hand slammed by the door falling.
I called the place we purchased the set from and they sent a tech out and said that I needed to contact Frigidaire. The technician said the problem is in the way the door is manufactured with too big a lip on the back of the lid. Most washer lids will go back further but this one is not secure.
Upon contacting Frigidaire they said they could not do anything and that this is the way the machine is designed.
Please check this unit out yourself. It is not safe and is a poor design.

Nov 2012 machine started to make arcing noise and stopped working. Husband identified problem and replaced part (control panel part). He said water leaked on part and cause it to burn out.
About a month later, the same thing happened.
Water is getting onto part, possibly from a leaky drum, we are not sure.
I need to replace the only 4 year old washing machine because it seems like a fire hazard and the same thing will most likely happen.
I called Frigidaire to report it and they said there are no recalls on it.

I have a frigidaire affinity front load washer. rubber gasket and area where detergent goes in constantly have black mold growing and accumulating. i have 2 small children at home and feel like we are constantly brething in and wearing mold now because its so hard to get rid of. based on my research it seems as though i am not the only one with this issue. its clearly a big problem. they design flaws are putting everyone at risk for serious illness.

I purchased a frigidaire front load washer about 3 years ago, I started to smell a foul odor coming from the washer and immediately called the frigidaire representatives. I was told to replace the bellow which is a large grey casket that keeps the water from spilling out of the machine, I replaced that part, yet a smell was still coming from the unit. I was then told that after each wash I needed to wipe out the washer because keeping the door closed would keep moisture inside and allow mold to build up, (very difficult to keep the door open at all times with a toddler). After two weeks of doing that, the foul, musty, molding smell still has not gone away. I again called the frigidaire reps again and they told me to now buy a product called Aafresh, and use these cleaning tabs to get rid of the mold. to no avail, the foul, musty, molding odor is still there, and now it’s starting to make my clothing and my children’s clothing smell of mold. I again called the frigidaire reps and they informed me that the only thing they could do for me was to issue a 40% discount on another frigidaire product...Short of dismantling this washer I have done everything they have asked of me. My husband is currently deployed to Afghanistan, we are a family of six and I am constantly doing laundry, but having to keep the washer door open it has led to our small military housing unit to smell of must and mildew, not to mention that my two year old is constantly trying to climb in the machine. I am also concerned that the mold will start to make my children and myself sick. I feel the least that frigidare can do is replace the defective washer. Washer never worked. Never buy anything with a F on it. I ordered this washer a year ago, upon arrival, it malfunctioned. I requested an refund from the manufacturer (Frigidaire), however, they sent a repair man, when he left, the washer continued to malfunction. When I state malfunction, I mean it would not complete the cycle, clothes remained wet inside a cycle full of water until I had to physically remove them, getting watering everywhere and soggy clothes dripping everywhere. The machine would not seal properly, so when the cycle was washing, it would leak down the center, creating this undesirable water line and the electronic switchboard was cheap and not computer friendly, it was hard to predict, basically, the cycle did want it wanted, before stopping in the middle, full of dirty water and half washed and wet clothes dripping everywhere. Its was unbelievable to the extent I will not sell it and cheat someone else, like I was cheated into buying this ridiculous poorly working piece, of thin metal that Frigidaire labeled as the modern high efficient washing machine.

The consumer stated that her electric clothes washer is a potential safety issue. The consumer noticed that while she was loading the washer the door was falling off the hinges. The washer is a front loaded model and the plastic door of the washer fell off and cut the consumer’s finger on her left hand just below the finger nail. The plastic on the door cracked and broke away from the hinge.
The consumer did not visit a doctor and thinks that her finger might be infected. The consumer has owned the product for 5 years. The consumer stated that the product caused no other property damage. The consumer stated that her cut hurts through the course of the day. The consumer called the firm today and they offered no help and the consumer called the retailer who referred her to the firm. The consumer stated that the washer has several signs of cracking on the plastic door. The consumer stated that the product emits a moldy smell.

Frigidaire Washer and Dryer was purchased with the stacking option. This product was purchased and installed by Sears. The Dryer sits on top of the Washer. While using both units, the Dryer came crashing down to the floor without any indication or notice.
We had three repair companies look at the unit. They all said the there isn’t anything holding the dryer secure on top of the washer. We looked at a newer model being sold by Frigidaire which does have a bracket bolting the dryer to the washer. This is the same for all other brands we looked at.
This unit has two guides placed at the rear of the washer that the rear feet of the dryer sit. This is open-faced and does not have any mechanism to keep the dryer from sliding forward and off. The front end has a bracket that is screwed to the Dryer and then sits on the front top of the washer with some type of adhesive tape. When we found the dryer on the ground, the bracket had a screw laying on the ground the the bracket was not in position any longer. The adhesive tape did not have the ability to hold the dryer on the washer.
This is a very dangerous situation and without notice, a small child can be killed. Any person could be hurt or worse if they were caught between the falling dryer and floor or wall. It appears from the multiple discussions we’ve had that this stacking solution was not well thought out and designed with safety in mind, or ability to do it’s intended roll.
