Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.
Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Amana top-load washing machine, white color, standard residential size.
Wednesday 7/29/26. The factory-authorized service technician disassembled the washing machine and left the appliance with exposed electrical wiring, an open component housing, and visible carbon soot from an electrical burnout fully exposed in my residential living space.
The main control board suffered a catastrophic component burnout at the R69 power regulation resistor and the wiring harness loop due to a cascading hardware failure documented in Whirlpool Service Pointer W11766193 (Rev E). This underlying control board defect caused the drain pump to run continuously until the pump motor completely failed, overheated, and suffered a final hardware burnout, creating an active fire risk.
On Thursday, I sent explicit photographic evidence of this uncontained hazard directly to the Whirlpool Executive Office. On Friday evening at approximately 6:00 PM, an Executive Representative placed an inbound call to my phone line. She completely dismissed the physical safety risk and ignored the symptom of the completely failed, burnt-out drain pump, claiming that what I was telling her ‘wasn’t part of the service pointer.’ When confronted with the danger of leaving live, uncontained electrical components open in a home, she stated she did not know if it was protocol to put the housing back together and reassemble it.
A search of the SaferProducts.gov database reveals an undeniable, documented pattern of identical failures for this exact Amana model (NTW4519JW2), proving widespread corporate knowledge of the risk. Incident Report IDs [REDACTED] all confirm that other consumers are experiencing an identical malfunction where the drain pump runs continuously due to a faulty control board, creating an uncontained hazard.
I am reporting this to the CPSC to document an uncontained residential electrical fire hazard, a completed component burnout, and a manufacturer’s executive refusal to remediate a known safety risk.
(09/10/2026) After the washer had failed mid-cycle and remained unusable, I subsequently plugged it in. The washer made an electrical zap/sparking noise at the plug, the machine lights blinked, and the washer then shut off completely. I immediately unplugged it and have not used it since.
I do not know the precise cause of this electrical event and am not claiming that it establishes a particular electrical defect. However, in combination with the previously documented electrical burning/soot and evidence of electrical arcing on the control board, I believe this is an important safety-related development that should be added to my report.

The product, in the report: Amana Top Load Washing Machine, white
My Amana washer just keeps running and sounding like it is draining even after cycle is done. Came home to this as load was washed and finished but it was doing that draining sound. Could burn motor up and burn my house down. It never shuts off. If you hit the button it will go off and come back on within a few seconds. The only way to get it off is to unplug it. Upon further research on internet, this is a known widespread and very popular issue and I cannot understand why a recall has not happened. This is unsafe and they will cheat customers out of fixing what they should fix. Do your job and make whirlpool/amana issue a recall. I called them Friday and the customer service was very rude and not helpful.

No one hurt Made Nov 12, 2025, sent to the company Nov 18, 2025, published by CPSC Dec 3, 2025
The product, in the report: The product is an Amana top-load washing machine, manufactured by Whirlpool Corporation. Model: NTW4519JW2 Serial Number: CD1501227 Color: White Type: Top-load washer with impeller (high-efficiency, vertical modular design) Dimensions: Approximately 27 inches wide, 27 inches deep, and 44 inches high Capacity: 3.8 cubic feet Electrical: 120V, 60Hz household power supply Purpose: Designed for residential laundry washing. The control panel features a central rotary dial with multiple wash cycle options and indicator lights along the top rear console. The unit includes a plastic wash basket, clear lid, and bottom-mounted drain pump. It was purchased new in May 2024 from Lowes and used in a standard home laundry room under normal conditions.
I am reporting a malfunction involving an Amana top-load washer, model NTW4519JW2, manufactured by Whirlpool Corporation. The washer developed a defect in which the drain pump runs continuously, even when the tub is empty and the control dial is in the OFF position. This behavior was confirmed by a licensed appliance technician as a failure of the main electronic control board, which keeps sending power to the drain pump.
According to Whirlpools own Technical Service Pointer W11766193 (Rev B/C), this is a known defect affecting this model series. The issue causes the machine to operate the drain pump indefinitely, which may lead to overheating of the pump motor, electrical stress, or water damage if the pump continues running unattended.
The washer was being used for normal household laundry by an adult. The failure occurred during routine operation and continued even after the cycle was stopped and the lid was opened. No injuries have occurred so far, but the defect presents a potential safety hazard due to continuous electrical and mechanical operation without user control.
The washer is less than one year old and remains unusable until the defective control board is replaced.

The product, in the report: clothes washer, white, top loading
On 3-22-25 i woke up from a nap and heard my clothes washer trying to fill and start by itself. After contacting the dealer who contacted the manufacture several times. I did and when I told them I was told that the problem was a safety issue and they would send a tec to check it out. The tec arrived on 5-6-25. He kinda knew already the problem. And he checked it out. He said it was the circuit board. And confirmed it was a safety issue and not to use it. But he also said that the part was back ordered and had been for some time. As of 5-24-25 it is still with no given time of when. This product is still on dealer floors and with so many back orders not being fixed the product needs to be investigated by you.

The product, in the report: Amana washing machine
Subject: Amana washing machine fire Dear Sir or Madam: July 6,2012 I attempted to report online. However, very difficult with your website to put in purchase date over 10 years. I have an Amana washing machine purchased May 18, 2001 from [REDACTED], True Value in Blue Ball, Pa. [REDACTED] installed the washing machine in my home. Model number PBLW330RAW serial number 0101188348. While I was on the telephone my smoke detectors sounded. I went to utility room on same floor and smoke filled utility room and attached kitchen. Smoke seemed to be coming from washing machine and this confirmed, when I lifted washing machine lid and smoke came out. I unplugged machine. I believe I had electrical fire.

The product, in the report: 3yr 5mo. old white Frontload Amana washer
I purchased my washer in April 08. I was washing a Medium size load of clothes last night keeping in mind there are only two of us {myself & spouse}, and the interior glass burst during the spin cycle. I understand the Warranty ran out however this glass is 1/4 inch thick and I feel should not have burst. I called Amana/Whirlpool and spoke with the Customer Service agent who only listened and proceeded to let me know it was not under warranty. I have now posted a picture on their website but upon reading all the other complaints, I feel it will go no where. I believe this glass had to be stressed in order to break. Could their be a possibility that the glass is defective? Upon showing this to a repair man, he said in thirty years of working on appliances, he has never seen this occur. There is no way to repair this piece except to purchase a whole new door. Again, this product is only 3 years old!
