    Description of the hazard

This product is marketed for helping babies sleep and nap, and the marketing suggests caregivers will get longer, calmer naps, be hands free, and have more rest. The product appears to be a soft, motorized plush placed next to a sleeping infant to deliver rhythmic pats. The website includes messages such as Longer, calmer naps, Hands free for mom, and Take back those precious minutes to rest, shower, or simply breathe, knowing your little one is calm and safe during nap time, which can reasonably be interpreted as encouraging use while the caregiver is not actively supervising the infant. my dream keeper

The frequently asked questions section states that stuffed animals in the bed are recommended after 6 months and claims it is completely safe under supervision, but this critical supervision warning is buried in the FAQ and not presented with the main marketing claims. The statement that soft objects may be used in the sleep space at 6 months is inconsistent with established safe sleep guidance. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends placing infants on a firm, flat, non-inclined sleep surface and keeping soft objects and loose bedding out of the sleep area to reduce suffocation and sleep-related death risk. my dream keeper +2 aap.org +2

Because the product is marketed to improve infant sleep and naps, it appears to meet the CPSC definition of an infant sleep product, which must comply with 16 CFR part 1236 or another applicable standard if marketed or intended to provide a sleeping accommodation for an infant up to 5 months. This item is a soft plush with an internal motor and does not appear to be a compliant sleep surface or a product covered by existing sleep standards such as cribs or bassinets. I am concerned that it encourages placing a soft, powered object in the sleep space and promotes unattended sleep, which may increase suffocation risk. U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission +1

In addition to the website, the company runs social media ads suggesting parents will get more rest if they use the product to keep babies asleep. Example promotional video: The Secret to Longer Naps. [REDACTED]

    What happened

I viewed the product page and ads and noted the claims above. I did not purchase the product, but I am reporting a potential safety hazard based on the encouraging of unattended sleep and the placement of a soft, motorized device in the infant sleep area that conflicts with safe sleep recommendations.
