  1. No one hurt

Made Jan 5, 2026, sent to the company Jan 8, 2026, published by CPSC Jan 23, 2026

The product, in the report: IMC Toys Baby Paws - Cocker Spaniel Puppy with Carrier | Soft and Cuddly Toy Puppy That Make 5 Adorable Sounds for Kids, Ages 18M+. It is a dog puppy plushie with attached plastic pacifier and plastic nose and eyes. It comes in a colourful pink bang handbag style with a ribbon for the strap. The strap has two easy release poppers on it.

My toddler was playing with a gift she was given, the IMC Toys Baby Paws - Cocker Spaniel Puppy with Carrier | Soft and Cuddly Toy Puppy That Make 5 Adorable Sounds for Kids, Ages 18M+

My toddler aged 20 months was in her car seat holding her new toy. The dog plushie comes in a bag with a ribbon handle so toddlers can carry it around. The ribbon for it got caught around her neck. The safety popper on the ribbon handle did not release and she was gasping for air, suffocating. I had to pull over the car to release the ribbon from around her neck. I think if she was walking/running and had fallen then the popper on the ribbon might have worked to prevent suffocation but in this instance my 20 month old could not release the ribbon from around her neck and pulling on it only tightned the ribbon around her neck. Obviously this was horrifying and I’m worried for other children. I won’t be giving the bag part of the toy back to my child, ever. If this had happened when she was alone for a few minutes then it could have been much worse an outcome. Because it has a popper on it I felt it was safe to give her in the car.
