The product, in the report: https://www.target.com/p/bunch-o-balloons-reusable-water-balloons-toys-8pc/-/A-94748585 Bunch O Balloons Reusable Water Balloons Toys
I am a pediatric gastroenterologist at [REDACTED] in San Antonio, TX. I was called in overnight to see a 10-year-old boy who had swallowed 4 small rectangle-shaped magnets on 5/19/26 at 19:45. These magnets had come from the Bunch O Balloons Reusable Water Balloons Toys by ZURU, purchased from Target. The boy said these magnets were removed from the product easily. Any time multiple magnets are ingested, that is a medical emergency because if they stick together from different areas of the bowel, then they can cause perforation requiring surgery with risk of infection and mortality. The boy had to undergo general anesthesia for an upper endoscopy, and thankfully I was able to reach the magnets and remove them endoscopically before traveling past the first part of the small intestine.
Any product that has easily removable and ingestible magnets is not a safe product for children.
By the laws of HIPAA, I cannot provide personal information about my patient. If more information is needed about the patient for this report to go forward, you will have to let me know so that I can get permission from the family first.
