The product, in the report: scooter
We purchased a High Bounce Scooter for our children on December 21, 2016 on Amazon for Christmas 2016 and a second scooter on January 3rd, 2017 on Amazon because the scooter purchase was well liked from our kids.
After only a few weeks of use on January 9th, 2017 the front Left wheel of one of the scooters flew off while my 3 year old daughter (29.2 lbs) was riding it. The wheel, bearing, screw, and arbor all were found on the sidewalk nearby. She was pushed into the handlebars and almost went over them. Her right knee was injured as she was thrown forward and it struck the rod that the handlebars attach to the scooter base. Luckily she was not hurt bad. We started the return process for this scooter and checked the other scooters wheels visually and used a driver to confirm both front wheels were tight and found nothing unusual.
One day later I was away when my wife called to say our other scooter had a similar thing happen while my older daughter (5 years old, 39.8 lbs) was on it. This time the left front wheel lost a different screw causing the wheel to swing out while staying attached to the scooter. The front of this scooter buried into the sidewalk she was riding on. She was thrown into the sidewalk and sustained an abrasion and contusion to her left knee that was about 1” in length. She also had minor abrasions to both of her hands as she put her hands down to catch herself on the sidewalk.
Both scooters new and had not been ridden by anyone bigger than my 8 year old niece. The scooters are rated for 60Kg which is well above any of the kids weight. The scooters were only ridden on sidewalks and concrete. Both children were wearing helmets during the incidents. Pictures were taken and are submitted in attachments.
I check recalls prior to many of my purchases and did this before buying the High Bounce scooters online. The reviews were mostly very positive. I did find a recall for a [REDACTED] scooter that is made in China that has front wheels detach while riding. I confirmed before the purchase and now after the incidents that these are not the same scooters in the recall.
I am concerned that they may be manufactured by the same company overseas and then sold under a different name here in the USA. I feel that these scooters are dangerous to use and will cause worse injuries. I feel that these need to be recalled and was amazed at how quickly they both failed under minor use.
