No one hurt Made Aug 21, 2026, sent to the company Aug 25, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 10, 2026
The product, in the report: Sunbeam model 32810124 heated blanket
While the heated blanket was plugged in and in use, it suffered an electrical failure. The power cord began sparking actively in the room. Upon immediate inspection, I discovered that the short-circuit had completely melted the plastic power plug and the internal wires inside the cord itself. The blanket fabric did not catch fire, but the intense sparking and melting of the cord created an immediate fire and burn hazard in my home before I caught it and unplugged the unit. No injuries or property damage occurred, but the power cord completely destroyed itself through thermal melting during normal, intended use.

First aid Made Jul 1, 2026, sent to the company Jul 7, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 21, 2026
The product, in the report: Sunbeam Nordic Premium Electric Heated Throw Blanket with 4 Heat Settings Controller, gray, 50x60
On June 29, 2026, while using my Sunbeam Heated Blanket (Model Number: 32810024), the device suffered a catastrophic thermal malfunction. While turned on, the blanket severely overheated in a localized area, burning a hole completely through the blanket itself, my bed sheet, and my mattress pad.As a direct result of this severe malfunction and the resulting localized fire hazard, I sustained a burn injury to my foot. Furthermore, the incident caused noticeable, permanent burn damage to my bedding materials and mattress pad, presenting an extreme fire and life safety risk.Though this specific model number (32810024) is not explicitly listed under Sunbeam/Star Elite’s previous 2023 product recall (which targeted model 32810027), it exhibited the exact same dangerous failure mechanism: severe localized overheating leading to melted material, open burn holes, property damage, and personal injury. I am filing this report to alert federal regulators to a potential expansion of the hazard across related Sunbeam heated blanket models. I have preserved all physical evidence, including the damaged blanket, burnt bedding, and clear photographic documentation of my injury.

The product, in the report: Sunbeam micro plush extra-long heated throw - Item 13683 - beige checkered pattern
I bought two electric heated blankets from Walmart in December for my wife and mother-in-law for Christmas. These are Sunbeam brand. Around 01/02/2026, a week after using it, my wife was using it in bed and the remote was placed next to her leg while she was laying down. She fell asleep with the blanket on and woke up to excruciating pain in her leg and realized that the remote was pressed up against her leg and left her with 3rd degree burns. This blanket has an “auto off” feature that failed to work. We feel unsafe, obviously, using these blankets any further. If the auto-off feature malfunctions, what else can go wrong with it? It has been two weeks since the incident and her leg is still in a lot of pain because of the burns, scabbing and scarring. We have been treating her burns with silver treatment per the doctor’s advice.

The product, in the report: Sunbeam heated mattress pad, King size
I noticed a burning smell coming from a bedroom. The bed had a heated mattress pad (Sunbeam, purchased at Costco) that was heating. I didnt see anything burning. About an hour or so later, I went to get in bed and was sitting up reading. I felt a burn on my lower back. Upon inspection, the heated mattress pad had scorched the regular mattress cover below it and had melted the gel pillow on top of it.

Emergency room Made May 1, 2023, sent to the company Jun 5, 2023, published by CPSC Jun 1, 2023
The product, in the report: 2 Queen size electric blankets
Early January 2023, the consumer experienced a fire with the electric blanket.
The consumer’s daughter used the electric blanket for less than an hour and turned it off. The blankets had high, medium and a low setting and the daughter used it on the low setting, the day of the incident. After the daughter turned it off an electrical fire occurred.
The consumer removed her child and called the fire department. The fire department came and extinguished the flames. The daughter’s bed, cell phone, and lap top, as well as the bedroom walls were burned.
The consumer experienced smoke inhalation and a 3rd degree burn to her left thigh area. The consumer went to the local emergency room and was treated for 3rd degree burns. She was released the same day and prescribed silver cream, prednisone and a silver cream. The consumer has Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and new injuries can cause it flair up.
The consumer contacted the recall firm and filed a report. She was told that someone would get back to her in 3 – 5 days. No one called her, so she called the firm again and was told that someone would get back in touch with her.
The consumer later received an email advising her to call them. She called them and was told that her claim was denied. She was also told that nothing else could be done.
The consumer had to replace 2 beds that were in the same room, and is still working on replacing the cell phone and computer. She provided the firm with the emergency room medical report, pictures of her injury and pictures of the damage to her home. The fire department took all of the burned items and disposed of them for safety reasons. However the firm has told the consumer that they require the serial numbers and the products, before a claim would be approved.
The blankets may have been part of Recall# 23-157, but since they were destroyed in the fire, it’s unknown.

The product, in the report: Sunbeam heated throw camo sold by Walmart. Plush with 3 settings
I was using heated throw while my dog and I was sitting at foot of bed watching TV. I fell asleep after pulling a quilt over my top half down covering throw. Feet was still hanging off bed to floor still had tennis shoes on. It was bitter cold single digets Xmas Eve. Was too tired. Was woke up by my dog dragging the covers off me in the floor I thought he had lost his mind. I still was unaware of really what has happened. Then I get up to go to rest6 when I came back in my dog was shaking like a leaf in a windstorm. I picked up the throw and quilt went to put back on bed and that’s when I saw the huge burn melted spot on the throw and controller was blinking red. I started to freak I called my dog to me he was freaking when I checked him over I noticed he had singed off the fur on the bottom of his front feet. That’s what he did he put the fire out after he drug it off me. The 100plus yr old quilt was damaged my socks and my fuzzy PJ bottoms got melt holes but we made it out ok . Took a few weeks before my dogs feet wasn’t tender anymore.

The product, in the report: throw Sunbeam Electric Blanket
The throw was turned to the “low” setting for approximately 10 minutes, when the consumer noticed a burning odor. The middle of the blanket was smoking, the cord inside the blanket had melted and caused some of the other bedding to burn. The consumer immediately unplugged it from the wall outlet and took the blanket outside. The consumer estimates that it was used 3 - 4 times per week, depending on how cold it was.
3/30/2020: The consumer sent the firm an email about the incident and she received a return call the next day. The rep. offered to send the consumer another blanket and requested that she send the damaged blanket back. The consumer is not sure that she would feel safe with a replacement blanket from the firm, but she did agree to return the blanket that was involved in the incident.
There was number on the tag (M136VF071760191101F09K11), but there was no indication of what that number represented.
There were no injuries.

The product, in the report: Sunbeam Warming Throw P1H
My son plugged in a heated blanket made by Sunbeam. The control started on fire, then self extinguished, leaving a black soot on a chair and causing a lot of smoke from the control. Because the nature of the product is bedding, I felt compelled to file a report. Normally, I would just throw it in the trash, but if I can help someone else so be it.
The control is labeled Style T85A E23623.

The product, in the report: Electric Warming Blanket, Queen size, two control units
We purchased a Sunbeam queen size warming blanket from Walmart in Vancouver in late December 2013 but we were in the process of moving and have misplaced the receipt. We paid about $70 for the queen size blanket. On 2/2/14 I was turning on the warming blanket with the push button control unit when the unit arced, sparked and spit fire or flame and smoke through the side of the controller. I then unplugged the unit from the wall. On 2/3/14 I e-mailed the problem to Sunbeam. On 2/4/14 they called me for more information. On 2/11/14 I received a return UPS label in order to return the blanket to Sunbeam.

The product, in the report: Heated Blanket. 3P 6H. Blue Blanket. Queen Size. Blue Color. See Attached pictures for more product information.
I purchased this product on September 23, 2013 at the Ocean State Job Lot. I opened the product for use on or about January 7, 2014. I carefully followed the installation and use instructions. I ensured that the cord was not caught between the mattress and boxspring, or between the wall and mattress. After using the product for one week, on or about, January 14, 2014, I got up from bed around 3:30 AM to use the bathroom. When I went back to sleep, extended my legs toward the foot of the bed, near where the plug is inserted on the blanket (the plug is on the outside of the blanket, label facing OUT), I felt a strong shock. The shock felt stronger than a static electric shock. I immediately jumped out of bed, unplugged the product and stopped using the product. I did not seek immediate medical attention.

The product, in the report: Sunbeam heated blanket
This is Menomonee Falls Fire Department. Had a bedroom, room and contents fire. Cause was traced down to a electric blanket that was on at the time of the fire. Then occupant stated she got out of bed and pushed the sheets, regular blanket and electric blanket to the floor off of the bed. She went to the living room, then stated 12 minutes then she heard the cat whining from her bedroom. Opened the door to see fire at foot of her bed by the blankets. We got the call for a house fire. First in crew was able to hold it to the bedroom and hall. Pictures were taken of the origin area and of another electric blanket same brand but bigger size. We did not collect the remains of the blanket or the controller.
