No incident, no one hurt Made Mar 24, 2023, sent to the company Apr 4, 2023, published by CPSC Apr 18, 2023
The product, in the report: Cannon Comfort Knit heated Blanket, Twin size, sage color, 100% polyester, sold by KMart
On 3/21/2023, my out-of-warranty electric blank stopped working. Per the Owner’s Manual, checked the plug to the electrical outlet and the plug from the controller to the blanket; all plugs where secure. Power was going to the controller. I stopped using the electric blanket. The next day, I removed the wires from the blanket to repurpose the blanket. While removing the wires, I noticed that in the lower left hand corner of the blanket, the wires were looped 4- 5 times around itself. I’ve never seen this in other electric blankets I’ve repurposed in the past. The outer plastic casing was tan color. Along a two inch length of casing, the casing was cracked and burnt; two cracks on the front side, 7 cracks on the back side. When I checked the blanket itself, the front looked fine. However, the back had a 0.5 inch long burn hole. The condition of the wire and burn hole is what prompted me to report this potential fire hazard to your agency.
The product is a Cannon Comfort Knit Heated Blanket, Twin size, color sage, 100% polyester, and sold by Kmart. The product label on the blanket shows the blanket is from Biddleford Blankets, 300-302 Terrance Drive, Mundelin, IL 60060, Toll Free Phone Number 1-800-789-6441, Model = OBP01, [REDACTED]
I was using the blanket for personal use on my twin bed for over 10 years. No injuries occurred.
