The product, in the report: detonator FP5

I have a 10 year old son who was under the care of his grandparents while I was I work. I received a call at work that I needed to meet them at the hospital which was in the town where I worked and 40 minutes from where the accident happened. I was told my son blew his hand off with an m-80. I never questioned things just went to care for my child. My son had been at the junk yard with his grandpa that day helping him. I found out my son had seen a couple fireworks probably 6 months prior to the accident. My dads buddy had brought these fireworks over towards the end of 2017. They had been moved but for some reason that day he had found a lighter from a junk car and remembered seeing the fireworks before so he snuck them off with him. When he went home to his grandparents house he waited for his grandma and little brother to go in the house. he then decided to light 1 of 2 fireworks off. My mom heard a very extreme bang and ran for the door and my son met her on the steps with his hand blown apart. She grabbed a towel wrapped his hand, loaded her dog and his brother up and headed for the ambulance shack as she called 911. My dad was given the fireworks and they were called m-80 by the guy who gave them to him. We never questioned anything just focused on my son. He was taken by ambulance to [REDACTED] where he was then life flighted to [REDACTED] by [REDACTED]. My son went into surgery that night and when he came out he no longer had his right thumb, index finger, or middle finger. his hand was pieced back together and they saved what they could. his ring finger was broken and severely damaged and required pins to hold it and much care to save it. His pinky finger is ok. It also burnt many spots on his body and up the side of his face and behind his ear pretty good. We never asked many questions just asked him if he was holding the firework when he lit it and he said no that he lit it on the ground. We then said you must of tried to throw it because thats what made sense. We never got into many of details just excepted the fact that everyone’s lifes had changed. We just worried about the care for my son. Last Monday I received a letter from the government about my sons accident and I was instantly scared because it said it was under investigation. with that being said. I then had to ask many of questions about the firework and the details as to what exactly my son did. I asked my mom about the firework she was led to believe was an m-80 well I found out after my sons accident they gave her his shorts and in the other pocket was the 2nd firecracker. She was able provide me with a picture of it and the information off of it. It was at that moment I learned my son lit a recalled firework not an m-80. I then contacted the CPSC to talk about the accident. He had questions he wanted me to ask my son so months after the accident I now know what happened and it makes so much more sense. The firecracker that was given to my dad was a detonator fp5 not a m-80. I went over the the day with my son. He said he took the fireworks because he wanted to light them. we have lit fireworks in the past and he knows the proper way and safety behind them. That day he waited for his grandma to go into the house. I have provided pictures of the firework, the coke can is where it was lit and the damage it caused to the car, my sons hand and the worst burn up his face to CPSC and will attach them him if I get the option to. that day he bent down stood the firecracker on the ground and lit it with his right hand and decided to move it. the fuse burnt 2-4 second. he still had the lighter in his hand. so going over and over how it took place. he lit it touched it and didn’t even make it anywhere before it exploded. he dropped the lighter and ran for the door. My son was in shock for sure but they call him a miracle child. he was awake and aware pretty much the whole time he was cared for except surgery. he is blessed to be alive and that he will be ok but his life is forever changed. he is right handed and now has to learn to use both hands. My son has at least has 2 more surgeries ahead of him.
