The product, in the report: I purchased several fireworks from the Sky King Fireworks store in Sarasota (Tamiami Trail location), and every single item we used malfunctioned. One of them even exploded in the wrong direction and hit my young child, causing a burn injury.Unfortunately, I no longer have the packaging or product names, but I can describe them: The items included multi-shot aerial cakes, Roman candles, and fountain-style fireworks., Migraine etc..They were sold in colorful boxes, some medium-sized (around 610 inches tall), meant for backyard family celebrations during the holiday weekend. Most of the fireworks malfunctioned one shot exploded sideways, instead of upwards, and directly struck my young child, who suffered a burn injury. Others failed to ignite properly or had unstable firing behavior. I have video and photo evidence of the malfunction and the injury, which I submitted to both the store manager and Sky Kings corporate office. I am reporting this because the products are clearly unsafe for public use and I fear that other families, especially with small children, might face serious harm if these are still on shelves.
One of the fireworks exploded in the wrong direction and struck my young child, causing a burn injury. Multiple other items we bought were also defective or misfired.
I reported the incident to the store manager and also submitted video and photo evidence to the corporate office. Despite this, I received no response, no refund, and no concern for safety.
The local store manager initially promised to handle it, then disappeared. Im deeply concerned that this faulty product is still being sold and might harm someone else more seriously in the future.
Update 7/23/2025: Clarification of incident:
I submitted two separate videos showing different fireworks purchased from Sky King Fireworks in Sarasota, FL. Both were lit correctly and in the same manner.
In the first video, the firework fired sideways at first, then continued firing upward.
In the second video, the firework fired sideways, tipped over, and one of the projectiles hit my son in the face, causing a burn injury.
The fireworks were part of a store promotion and were placed together on the same display. Unfortunately, I do not remember all of the product names, but I do recall that one of the items was labeled “Migraine”.
Sky King Fireworks responded via email but attempted to shift the blame to improper lighting — even though both videos clearly show dangerous misfires.
Unfortunately, I do not have a receipt, as I did not think to save it at the time. However, I encourage the CPSC to request store records or footage from Sky King Sarasota. The store manager (Ryen) is aware of the incident and initially promised compensation.
My only goal is to prevent this from happening to another family. The injury could have been far more serious. I hope your investigation leads to proper action and oversight of this product line.
