Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Emergency room

Made Sep 10, 2024, sent to the company Sep 13, 2024, published by CPSC Sep 27, 2024

The product, in the report: Propane cylinder: Bernzomatic 14 oz Propane Cylinder, Blue

I bought a cooking purpose torch and a propane gas cylinder for cooking. The torch and gas cylinder worked very well. BUT 2023. May.24 When I disconnected the torch from the cylinder for storage, the liquid gas leaked aggressively. So I connected and tightened the torch again to prevent an explosion from gas exposure. (It could be serious because I live in an apartment community. ) During re-connecting them, my fingers were exposed that the freezing gas for a few seconds and I got a severe frostbite. I went to a urgent care after frist-aid But 4~5 days later the wounds developed into blood blister and dusky. The urgent care transferred me to the ER and I got surgery May 30 The hand surgeon expected and explained an inch amputation of the middle finger but Really luckily I could save my finger... healing well but It will take 6 months to grow the fingernail back... As you can see this [REDACTED], This same product gas cylinder MUST not be leaking when untightening or disconnecting [REDACTED] I purchased the torch at [REDACTED] in Feb.(I have [REDACTED] purchasing history and a receipt)[REDACTED] I bought the propane cylinder at Walmart in Feb~Mar(I have a receipt)

Medical expenses My company offers really good insurance so it is covered well. Anyway, before discounts, the medical bill is over $30,000. Honestly, as an engineer and inventor, I really do understand no product is perfect. Regardless of this, I’d like to claim that’s why the product liability and insurance exist.

  2. No one hurt

Made Dec 2, 2023, sent to the company Dec 5, 2023, published by CPSC Dec 19, 2023

The product, in the report: A BernzoMatic [REDACTED] gas canister with a BernzoMatic manual light torch.

I had lit a BenzoMatic torch to light a fire starter for the fireplace. As I was adjusting the adjustment screw to obtain the optimum flame, the adjustment screw came out. This caused the [REDACTED] gas coming out of the screw hole to catch on fire as well. I managed to get the fire out and tossed the bottle and the torch out into the snow.

This is about the existing recall at:

    http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2012/Gas-Cylinders-Recalled-by-Worthington-Cylinders-Wisconsin-Due-to-Fire-Hazard/

except that my leaking cylinder is blue. The recall notice says that the recall is for yellow and black cylinders.
