The product, in the report: Snowmobile
2022 Ski Doo Mach Z 900 Turbo started on fire after a few cents of fuel came out of a full tank of fuel (due to a defective gas pump nozzle). The HOT turbo muffler ignited the fuel. I am told the design has been improved on 2027 models. BRP should provide a protection around the turbo muffler to reduce the fire potential. They should also make consumers aware of the potential fire hazard. I reported this fire to them and I have read of many other fires to this 900 turbo engine in different models

The product, in the report: Snow mobile
Caller was informed after two months studying the snowmobile that no manufacturer defect was found. The report also indicated user error
This caller had been riding his snowmobile along with six other riders for approximately three hours when the group stopped for gas. The caller states that he pulled up to the gas pump, selected his gas and put the handle in his gas tank. Within seconds the snowmobile was on fire. He and the others in his six person group of riders began throwing handfuls of snow on the snowmobile
The gas station employee came out within minutes with a fire extinguisher and put the fire out.
The caller is also asking whether he has rights as a consumer in this case (I provided him with Consumer Protection and FTC)

The product, in the report: 2017 Ski-doo Tundra LT
The rubber grommet around the fuel level sensor eroded on a new machine and an entire tank of fuel poured out on the lawn when the machine was started up. Had there been an ignition source close by our garage could have burned down or a wildfire could have been started.
From looking online it appears this has been a pretty common issue on Ski-doo snowmachines for many years and BRP has never addressed it with a safety recall or fixed it.

The product, in the report: Ski- Doo 2018 850 MXZ-XRS Snowmobile VIN# [REDACTED]
The new Skidoo 2018 850 MXZ-XRS has a design flaw so that the head lights do not illuminate far enough ahead to see. My husband has had a number of ski doo’s and this is unique to this new sled. The company has a laser light system to compensate for this problem but wants consumers to purchase it for approx. $349 and $90 for installation. They opened a complaint file for us [REDACTED]. They said they are not aware of this as a problem and will have to have their warranty people look at it. We know it is a problem as the dealer has acknowledged it and several other friends that have purchased this new sled are experiencing this problem. It is an URGENT SAFETY issue that most be addressed or there will be severe injuries and deaths.
Attached below is the copy of the invoice for complaint [REDACTED] showing the purchase of this new snowmobile. It was purchased in March as a pre-order “spring check” and picked up in October but it wasn’t until January that we had enough snow and I drove it at night. That is when I discovered the problems with the lights not being adequate to see. To date I have received no call back from BRP/skidoo.

The product, in the report: 2018 Skidoo Freeride 850 Etec
On December 31, 2017, our 2018 Skidoo Freeride was driven out of our heated shop and parked outside. A few minutes later; the operator, standing next to the snowmobile, pushed the SHOT Starter button to start the engine. We believe the throttle had not been exercised since it was shut off and remained in the closed position (idle position). The snowmobile immediately accelerated to full throttle, traveled approximately 95’, hit our [REDACTED], became airborne and slammed into our barn. The engine remained at full throttle in contact with the barn until the tether cord was pulled. The throttle lever was still in the closed position when the tether cord killed the engine. We are thankful no one was hurt, we believe the snowmobile is totaled. The snowmobile has about 350 miles on it.
The dealer downloaded data from the on-board control module that confirmed the throttle position sensor maintained a 41 degree open “stuck” reading in the last 38 seconds of operations.
This easily could have resulted in injury to the operator and bystanders and we are concerned that similar events may result to injury to others.

The product, in the report: Ski Doo MXZ XRS 2012
I had a mint condition 2012 MXZ XRS completely stock. Vin # [REDACTED]. Being a life long fan of Ski Doo owning 9 Ski Doos and 2[REDACTED] I would hope to think this sled was running perfect.
On Dec 31, 2017 at 11:45am I went for a ride. I returned home by 1:30pm. Ten minutes later my neighbor pounded at the door saying my Ski Doo was on fire. Using 3 fire extinguishers and shoveling snow onto it we were finally able to put the fire out at about 3pm. It was a horrific fire that could have been much worse. It was very near my garage. Neither myself nor the original owner were notified of any fire risk on this sled. For this reason or any other malfunction not due to operator error I would hope there would be a resolution for my loss. If someone needs to inspect it I can bring it to my dealership. I have photos, too.

The product, in the report: 2012 Ski Doo Tundra Sport 600 ACE
I own a 2012 Ski Doo Tundra Sport. The fuel tank has a design flaw. The flaw involves a grommet that is immersed in fuel that is made of material that degrades when exposed to fuel.
I have a photograph of the deteriorated grommet ( that I am not able to attach here).
During the winter of 2017, a cataclysmic event was barely averted. Several miles from home, while under way, I noticed that the fuel level was uncharacteristically dropping. I smelled strong fuel vapors. I shut off the unit and examined the engine compartment. I observed fuel leaking from the tank. It should be noted that had I applied the brakes before turning off the engine the uncontrolled fuel would have ignited, causing personal injury to myself and my passenger.
BRP has been notified. The BRP representative has elected to dismiss my notification, and has refused to acknowledge the matter despite several communications.

The product, in the report: Snowmobile Date manufactured: 9/2007
Caller stated that his plastic molded gas tank on his snowmobile is leaking. He recently noticed the incident this week. (12/6/13) He contacted the firm but he felt that they were unwilling to do anything to assist him. He feels that this snow mobile leaking fuel can cause a fire.

Caller is concerned that this snowmobile is unsafe and should be recalled.
The consumer has video of tank leakage if needed.

while riding at approx 15 mph the right side motor caught fire . the machine has approx 400 total miles on it and was out of warranty coverage by 6 months. 2,400 $ of damage occured plus melted some of my riding clothes . if i did not react so quickly to try and douse the flames the sled would have been a total loss and physical harm to me would have been much greater. the outer crank bearings failed and caused then engine to over heat with no warning . no display lite was ever displayed. ski doo,s 800 comsumer phone conversation were of little to no help .if someone with less mechanical knowledge was riding this sled i am positive the fire would have caused catistrofic or major injuries . i have a profressioanl automotive background and extreame knowledge of motor vehicles as a hobby such as motorcyles and snow machines that assisted in lessening the physical and person injury
