The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Team primary drive clutch on a 2019 arcticcat m8000

On January 14 I was riding my 2019 arctic cat m8000 mountain cat in Revelstoke British Columbia. As I was riding the primary drive clutch exploded in the back country resulting in many fragments and chunks of clutch flying all over. This resulting in more then just clutch damages to my snowmobile. The snowmobile was un rideable resulting in an $1120.00 helicopter bill to get it out of the mountains. Since then I have contacted my local arcticcat dealer after hearing about a recall update for these clutches. I have been informed from them that these updated clutches are only available for people from the United States. I can receive a updated clutch guard but will be stuck paying for the updated clutch out of my own pocket as iam from Canada. These products are the same as the ones being ran in the united states. I have already payed to get the snowmobile out of the mountains from their defective products and iam just happy that I did not get injured when the product exploded.

The product, in the report: 2006 Arctic Cat Sabercat 500 EFI Snowmobile

While riding 2006 Arctic Cat Sabercat noticed I was wet in my crotch area with gasoline leaking out of the cracked filler neck of the fuel tank. Did some research and discovered cpsc recall alert #06-547 had been issued years ago and after talking to an arctic cat rep was told that my tank had “the fix” installed at the factory. Well I told him the tank cracked and I was soaked with gas. He looked up the tank part #0770-628 and told me they were not being produced anymore and that there was nothing he could do. This is an unacceptable position for arctic cat to take. They should make people whole for their defective product. Luckily I was not caught on fire.

Caller stated that he experienced similar problems as recall 19-740 Hazard: While operating the snowmobile the exhaust can flame from the muffler outlet, posing a fire hazard. The snowmobile caught fire 2/24/23, the dealer released it to him without fixing the problem. They informed that they did not know how to resolve the issue. The second fire was 1/26/24. The dealership advised him that management was unable to fix it and to consult his insurance company with the matter. Caller feels that the manufacturer is not being responsible for the safety hazard of the product and that it should be recalled.

When I was riding my snowmobile in a ditch along side a public road the drive clutch had exploded into multiple pieces like a bomb. Pieces shot through the side panel the belly pan and down by the running board where you put your feet. I watched one of the pieces fly about 30 feet in the air and the rest of the pieces where scattered in about a 40 ft radius. Fortunately I didn’t have my foot forward where the foot slot is otherwise my foot/leg would of been injured and no one else was riding around me that they could of been injured from flying shrapnel.

I was riding in the UP of Michigan and the Primary clutch exploded, taking out the secondary clutch with it. Pieces hit my foot, causing my toe to turn purple and to lose a toe nail. Lucky I still have my foot after the explosion. The sled is still not fixed to this day, nearly 1 year later still waiting on clutch parts, and arctic cat knows they have a problem because they replaced the primary clutch with an adapt clutch. Something needs to be done before someone loses their foot.

The product, in the report: 2019 Arctic Cat Norseman 8000

On March 4th, 2022 I had a fire on a snowmobile I own. It is a 2019 Arctic Cat 8000 Norseman. Recall Number 19-740. The snowmobile did just what the recall indicated and started fire around the muffler and muffler outlet. Since then I have been in touch with the selling dealer (Road, Track & Trail, LLC) and with Arctic Cat. I now have the sled sitting at a dealer close to me ([REDACTED]) waiting for Arctic Cat to do something. In Talking to Arctic Cat ([REDACTED]) he started out saying the selling dealer should have done the update before selling it. Road, Track and Trail indicated it was Arctic Cat place to update before selling to them. Than after the owner of Road, Track and Trail got involved [REDACTED] changed his story. After the sled was at my dealer ([REDACTED) [REDACTED] (Arctic Cat) said he did not know if the update was done or not. My dealer said they talked to him and had told him it was not.

From start to now [REDACTED] (Arctic Cat) has tried to throw anyone they could under the bus to keep from taking any reasonability. Now [REDACTED] will not return my calls and my sled is sitting at my dealer with the side panels melted from the fire.

What I would like to know is how can I put in a formal complaint against Arctic Cat? Also can you provide what government agency I would do that with?

The recall says to immediately stop using the recalled snowmobile and contact Arctic Cat to schedule a free repair. I believe Arctic Cat feels if they drag this out long enough most people will go away. I’m not one of those people.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank You

(02/28/2022) The consumer stated that his product should have been in the recall release #17-724 because he is having the same issue with the gas tank.

The consumer stated that his son rode the snowmobile and complained that the cap was leaking. The consumer replaced the cap but then got a closer look at the tank and discovered that there was a crack along the bottom under the cap.

The consumer contacted the firm and was advised that his model was not included in a recall.

    The snowmobile was completely destroyed.

Explosion Incident January 25, 2022 2018 Arctic Cat ZR 8000 ES Limited - VIN:[REDACTED] I purchased a “Dealer leftover” 2018 Arctic Cat ZR8000 ES Limited, brand new, with zero miles on it from Cooks Recreation Motorsports in Tully, NY on February 6, 2021. I rode it for about 4 weeks last Winter and then the riding season abruptly ended. It had around 250 to 300 miles on it. I planned to build a storage building for it during the Summer and since I didn’t have a place ready to store it yet, my neighbors [REDACTED] and [REDACTED], who live across the street, offered me the opportunity to store it in their storage building for the Spring, Summer and Fall months since they had plenty of room available. They are also Snowmobiler’s, and I rode with them last year on local trails. Their storage building was relatively new; it was installed only a couple of years ago.

On the evening of January 25th, I discussed with them about riding that night and for me it would have been the first ride of the Season. I ate Supper and then proceeded to their shed about 6 PM. I planned to start it and ride it across the street to my house where I would finish getting my helmet and gloves on and make a final check on the oil level before heading out to the trails with them. Unknown to me, just after I went to their shed, they came outside and lowered the ramp on their trailer in the driveway to get their snowmobiles out also. I rolled up the rear door of their shed where my snowmobile was parked and started the snowmobile. It had just over a half tank of non-ethanol fuel in it. It was idling at 2500 RPM. I let it idle in the shed for about 30 seconds and then selected Reverse to back it out of the shed. I immediately noticed that when I backed it out that some snow kicked back onto the shed floor. While it was still idling, I got off the snowmobile and started pushing the snow off the floor with my shoe and clearing snow where the roll-up door would seat when closed. I lowered the door down to the ground and then I manually turned the front skis to the left so that I could drive around the corner of the building. It was sitting only about 5 to 6 feet from the storage shed. It was still idling. I got onto the snowmobile and applied throttle to move forward. It revved to about 3400 RPM and then would bog, it wouldn’t rev higher than 3400 RPM and that RPM would not move the snowmobile, like it wasn’t getting enough fuel. I tried that a few times and it continued to give the same result. I selected Reverse and applied throttle, it did the same thing. I selected Drive again and attempted applying the throttle a few more times and then the Snowmobile violently exploded! The whole front section of the snowmobile blew into a huge ball of flames and it sounded like a huge bomb explosion. Neighbors around the area reported afterwards that they heard the explosion. The side covers both flew about 25 feet in opposite directions and they are the only components remaining that did not incinerate. I was blown off the back of the snowmobile onto my back into the snow. I immediately realized my right leg was on fire. I was rolling in the snow to try to extinguish the flames. I didn’t have my gloves on to swat out the fire, they were back at my garage across the street. Fortunately, [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] were outside and saw and heard the explosion and [REDACTED] immediately came running. She had gloves on and gathered snow to put out the fire in my Snow pants. What a near disaster that could have been. Later, I discovered that my snow pants, my Jean’s underneath and my shoe were soaked with gasoline. The hair all over the right side of my head was singed along with my eyebrows. I had a burn on my right wrist and a small cut on my left hand. [REDACTED] called 911 and the Elbridge Fire Department came just in time to save the building. It was too late for the Snowmobile, flames were at least 10 feet in the air, and it burned completely, so there are only metal parts remaining. All burnable material: rubber, vinyl and plastic were completely incinerated. Some of the Aluminum parts melted. The storage shed roll-up door and door trim were damaged from the heat and will all need to be replaced.

A New York State Police Trooper, [REDACTED], arrived at the scene just before the Fire Department. He watched the activity, took information, and drafted a report.

I did not make any modifications to the snowmobile. Last year I had once removed the left side cover to look at the clutch and belt and the right cover was also removed a few times to add oil to the oil tank. The hood was never removed. After last year’s season ended, I purchased an Arctic Cat mid- high windshield and mirrors to install but had not put them on yet, the Snowmobile was still totally original.

I am a Mechanical Engineer and have a lengthy experience in the Automotive Engineering Powertrain field, and I suspect there was a failure in the fuel line that connects between the Fuel Pump and the Injection Rail or possibly there was an injector failure. The fuel system is under regulated pressure; 58 to 62 psi, according to the Arctic Cat Service Manual. I understand from looking at videos and Service Parts listings that the Fuel Line is Plastic with quick disconnects on both ends and has a thin rubber covering on the outside of it. For that pressure level, for safety, that Fuel Line should be covered with a Stainless-Steel mesh for protection, but it is not. In my research online, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: 2009 Arctic Cat Z1 1100 Turbo

I purchased a used 2009 Arctic Cat Z1 1100 Turbo Snowmobile. When getting it ready for this winter the sled caught fire, a lot of damage to the wire harness and oil tank. When looking at it I found a large crack in the fuel tank where the fuel pump is inserted. I called the previous owned and found out there was a recall due to fuel leaks caused by the tanks cracking. He said he had the recall repairs done in 2015. Arctic Cat definitely has a issue with these tanks because it happened again and now I’m out $6000 for a sled I can’t use.

The product, in the report: Snowmobile

The consumer states that he purchased his snowmobile with 4,000 miles on it from his Uncle, who originally purchased it from the Manufacturer on 01/13/2001. The unit has 4,600 miles currently.

The consumer indicates that the gas tank on the top of his snowmobile has threads that have cracked, allowing gas to leak on the consumer’s clothes as he is using the unit. The consumer is concerned that his clothes may catch fire.

The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative he spoke to informed him that they are aware of the problem but because they no longer manufacture his unit that they could not assist him.

The consumer states that the unit is only used during Winter months approximately once per week.

The consumer plans on keeping his snowmobile for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: 2017 Arctic Cat Bearcat 2000 LT

Normal use with machine. Machine is a 2017 Arctic Cat Bearcat 2000 LT. Stored in garage or enclosed trailer at all times except while in use to remote cabin. Machine has roughly 1300 miles on it now and is leaking fuel out the top of the gas tank where the fuel pump assembly is. It is a hazard because the fuel pump is on the side where the exhaust was. If I hadn’t noticed it after a fuel up prior to riding the machine it could have been fatal seems how gas was leaking onto the exhaust.

The product, in the report: 2017, 2018, 2019 Arctic Snowmobiles equipped with Ctec2 engine and/or equipped with a Team Industries roller bearing clutch.

2017, 2018 and 2019 Arctic Cat snowmobiles equipped with Team roller bearing primary clutches and the Arctic Cat Ctec2 engine are experiencing drive clutch failures and structural failures. The drive clutches are failing and pieces of jagged metal are flying off the clutch. The speed of the clutch is 8000rpm. The speed of the departing pieces are 190mph. The jagged pieces of metal can be as big as a baseball. The damage from the incidents are causing major damage to the snowmobiles. It is only a matter of time before there is serious bodily injury. The drive clutch is within 18” of the operator.

The cause of the clutch failures is three fold. 1. The clutch cover is too weak to withstand the internal spring and weight forces. This causes the cast aluminum to flex and weaken. 2. The design is such that the cover contacts the spider nut and causes the tower and cover to flex which in turn weakens the metal. 3. Engine harmonics from the Ctec2 engine. The metal damaging harmonics accelerates the clutch fractures. The clutch eventually flies apart under load at 8000rpm.

The Ctec2 engine equipped snowmobiles are having major structural component fail as well. The “A” frame chassis bolts are coming loose which could cause frame failure. The secondary clutch bolts are coming loose which could cause the secondary clutch to come unbolted at 8000 rpm. The clutch is constructed in such a way that there are essentially two 11” discs bolted together. When the bolt backs out from harmonics, the discs are now free to become detached at 8000rpm. The secondary clutch is 8” from the operators leg. The tunnels are cracking on major structural stress points where attached to the chain case. The tunnel could fail and cause the vehicle to be unpredictable. The bottom aluminum gear is rapidly wearing which could cause an unexpected instant stop.

The Ctec2 engine has an inherent problem which is called harmonics. Engine harmonics are extremely damaging to metal parts. Especially structural and metal stress points. Damage is not always visible to the naked eye so once a vehicle has experienced harmonics, there is no way to tell how much damage has been done. The only way is to remove the vehicles from service.

Arctic has attempted to fix the problem in 2017 by issuing a voluntary recall #17-748 for about 2,700 vehicles. The recall did not fix the issues and the problems are still occurring in 2019. The company has not issued another recall and are in some cases, denying warranty.

As evidence of trying to fix the harmonics issue, they have redesigned the cylinders, fuel injector placement, a new flywheel and engine torque link to help “engine vibration damping.” Arctic Cat has disguised this vibration fix as a new and improved engine. While this is step in the right direction, it does not address the past model issues. The horsepower/torque curve has been substantially altered for model year 2020. Even though Arctic Cat has known injury to the operator is possible and likely, another recall has not been issued. The company obviously cannot be trusted to keep the public from injury. For this reason, this issue needs Federal Agency involvement in the form of a mandatory recall.

Arctic Cat is aware of the problem and continue to sell their products. We purchased our 2018 zr 8000 limited in november. My son had it in northern [REDACTED] last weekend and the belly pan caught on fire 3 times over the weekend. He notified me about what happened and i called the dealer. The service manager wasn’t in, so i started doing research and this is a problem that was identified last year. Still no resolution to the problem. On monday february 18th i talked to the service manager and was told its a known problem and there won’t be a fix this year. So i called the customer care line at Arctic Cat and talked to a customer service representative and his response was “what would you like us to do” I told him that selling a product that catches on fire while riding should have never been sold to the consumer. The sale of these vehicles should have been stopped until a valid repair had been performed. I feel we and all of the people that bought these machines are at risk of injury if the sale of these vehicles continues. I’m trying to get someone involved that may be able to speed up a valid repair. I feel Arctic Cat has failed to resolve this in a timely manner and they aren’t taking this problem seriously. Thank you. Also theres a lot of information online about the others having this same problem you can find it under ctec 2 exhaust fire/ arctic cat 8000 fire etc.

This consumer is reporting an incident with his 2009 snowmobile he purchased sometime in 2014 from a shop who was selling it on consignment for someone else in New Hampshire. He had no problems with this snowmobile, it ran great until February 4, 2017 after he had been riding between 45 minutes to an hour then stopped but when he started again after letting other snowmobiles go passed him the mobile stalled. He looked down and saw smoke coming from the gas tank, he got off the mobile to open the hood and checked to see why it stalled but there were flames around three inches high. He walked away from the unit and the flames had already grown to around three feet high. His friends he was riding with came back to him, the fire department reached the unit but by that time the flames were more like twenty feet high. The fire was extinguished by the fire department, however the snowmobile was just gone with melted plastic actually running down the trail. He began researching the incident and discovered that his snowmobile was recalled with release# 17-724 since January 11, 2017. There are no injuries to report The caller contacted the manufacturer February just after Valentine’s Day and provided the information to a female employee who seem to not be interested but he does plan to contact them again.

2005 Arctic Cat F5 developed gas tank leak at the fuel pump flange in the year 2015. An attempted repair was performed by removing the tank and patching a 40% circumferential crack at the base of the fuel pump flange neck, where the neck meets the tank body. In December 2016, it was determined that the tank was continuing to leak, and the circumferential crack had continued around the fuel pump flange neck to about the 80% level. The tank was replaced with a new design in January 2017 at the owners expense before issues recall was acknowledged. No fire or damage was experienced, except for complications with the disassembly of the chassis of the sled, associated with the tank replacement.

Arctic Cat Snowmobile Model 2014 XF7000

Problem: Fuel leak under seat due to poor workmanship.

A fuel leak was discovered under the seat of this snowmobile after noticing a strong scent of fuel on clothing inside the right knee down to the boot. The origin of the leak was traced back to the fuel port under the seat where fuel puddles in a tank cavity below the battery and wiring harness. Movement of the machine while in use spills the fuel from the cavity down the side of the tank where it is free to come in contact with clothing and the running board before continuing to the ground below. Leaking may not be noticeable while the machine is still

On the fuel port below the seat is a nipple where the fuel line attaches and is to be secured by a crimp type clamp. The clamp has been installed however it freely rotates around the nipple and fails to secure the fuel line. There are no band markings on the rubber fuel line indicating that the clamp was ever on the line and somehow slipped off. Another point to note is that the diameter of the crimped clamp is less that than that of the fuel line suggesting it had been crimped prior to installation rather than after to secure the fuel line in place. With an assembly this simple to build and confirm a workmanship fault such as this should be considered negligence.

It is important to note that in the summer of 2014 this machine was recalled for fuel line issues and as a result had already been returned to the dealer for repairs. So this issue is either a new problem or the service technicians have been improperly trained to correct the original problem. In either case the faulty machines remain in or have been returned to service while representing a high risk of injury to the operator. Most operators wear protective winter clothing that cannot be quickly removed and if ignited while saturated with fuel it could prove deadly.

Further aggravating this instance is another issue of poor welds on the front bumper assembly which allow it to break apart even under moderate stress. Although this is not directly related to the fuel line issue it is the second workmanship problem we have discovered in a week on this machine. Together they strongly suggest a general trend in quality which may extend to other safety risks that may not surface until these and other machines have more hours of operation on them.

The product, in the report: Arctic Cat 2009 Z1 Turbo Sled (Snowmobile) Engine #: B11-402985

My wife’s 2009 Arctic Cat Z1 Turbo sled (Snowmobile) burst into flames while trail riding in Vermont on 3/6/14. I reported the incident with the Arctic Cat, Inc Legal Department and Customer Care Center on 3/7/14.

We purchased two brand new 2009 Z1 Turbo identical sleds off the showroom floor from the Manager, at PJ’s Power Sports, in Rangeley ME on 3/12/09. The dealer informed us that they needed to prep the sleds for delivery. We stopped in the shop the day before delivery, to find that one of the engines and odometer were completely removed from the sled. I asked the four mechanics in the shop what was going on, and they all were silent. I insisted they answer my question, and they said to speak to the Manager. I did speak to the Manager, and he informed me that they removed it to put it into another sled for a different customer. Needless to say, I was not happy as the sleds were brand new. This is evidenced by the incorrect engine serial #B11-402985 (non-matching) in my wife’s sled that caught fire. The correct engine serial # is B11-402279 according to the Manufacturer.

Upon delivery of the new sleds, they overheated, leaked coolant, and needed to be serviced. In addition, the used odometer replacement they put on my wife’s sled had over 1,500 miles on it. They serviced the sleds to repair the overheating and replaced the second odometer with a new one. However, the overheating on my wife’s sled was a chronic problem. We had them serviced at Hudson Cycle Center, NH for continued overheating and recall updates at a later date.

Currently, my wife’s burnt sled VIN serial #[REDACTED] was in pristine showroom condition with roughly 1,100 miles on it and my sled VIN serial #[REDACTED] is in pristine showroom condition with only 1,303 miles on it. They both were purchased, maintained and the recalls were completed in a timely manner by an Authorized Arctic Cat, Inc dealer.

The details of the incident are as follows:

My wife and I were trail riding in Vermont on 3/6/14. I stopped on the trail because I feared my sled was on fire when gray smoke started pouring out of my sled’s engine compartment. I took the side engine cover off and the smoke subsided. My wife pulled up with her sled, about two feet behind my sled, and stopped. Coincidentally, her engine compartment immediately exploded and burst into flames. Fortunately, she was able to jump off her sled in time before the gas tank exploded, and I moved my sled a safe distance. Within a minute, her entire sled was engulfed in a 15 foot high wall of flames. I can’t imagine what could have happened if she was still cruising along the trail when the fire erupted.

The sled is a complete loss. I have documented photos and video of before the fire and during the fire. I paid a recovery team to retrieve the charred remains of my wife’s sled which is in my possession at my home.

I researched afterwards that Arctic Cat, Inc did a Recall on that specific sled, a 2009 Z1 Turbo on 10/26/09 due to FIRE HAZARD resulting from a DEFECTIVE PRODUCT, according to the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission, due to 33 reported incidents including 8 vehicle fires. Arctic Cat, Inc denies any responsibility and declines to investigate our incident. At this point, we have two sleds, one charred remains and the other a potential danger to my life, which I will no longer feel safe riding. Given the fraudulent nature of the engine swapping, the inexplicable nature of the fire, and the product recall, I feel compelled to report this product to the Consumer Product Safety Commission for investigation.

thus locking up the snowmobile and throwing me about 120 feet

I was told the repairs would be covered by a recall on the part (ring gear)

I was later told the defective part was only covered on a different year sled and would cost about $500 to repair my sled.

I wanted to report I could have been injured or killed if the accident would have happened in a wooded area. thank god it was an open area.

Cracked fuel tank filler neck. Arctic cat 2008 crossfire 800 VIN# [REDACTED]

While riding, noticed strong fuel smell. Looked around and gas tank area and snow suit were covered with fuel. At first thought, maybe fuel cap was not on correctly or not tight. Upon further inspection the tank had a crack about 2/3 around the filler neck.

I see this has been an ongoing problem with this manufacturer. Several recalls but not for my machine even though the design appears the same. Tried to contact arctic cat several times and they never returned my call. Talked to dealer and all the manufacturer would do is replace tank. I would be responsible for labor.

In looking at internet searches, this seem to be a VERY BIG problem. I feel the recalls should be expanded and not voluntary. Even though I don’t see any actual physical injuries as a result, there has been a significant financial burden to me and other owners.

The consumer says that on March 2nd 2013 she was driving the snowmobile at about 15 mph on a snowmobile trail in Oquossoc, Maine. When the snowmobile exploded and immediately shot flames up 2 to 3 feet behind the handle bars and the flames quickly spread to the driver’s left side of the sled. The consumer says the fire dept responded within five minutes. The consumer says this incident was not a back fire. The fireman says that the explosion shook the fire station.

Due to the fact that the fire happened right beside the fire station. A firemen on duty heard the explosion and came out and saw the snowmobile in flames. He called 911 which summoned the other firemen. The consumer contacted the manufacturer who said the unit is not under warranty. They also said they have not seen any reports with this product. The product is under recall (Release # 10-705). The snowmobile was taken to an authorized dealer for repair back in January of 2009 .

It was also taken for service updates in February 2013. The unit is currently at an authorized dealer, she says they possibly could consider it totaled. The consumer says that the manufacturer still has not fixed the problem with the newer models. The consumer says the 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 models all have had the same issue.

The product, in the report: 2007 Arctic Cat F5 LXR Snowmobile

2007 Arctic Cat F5 LXR gas tank leak at fuel sending unit collar after refueling... leaks directly onto top of cylinder and near exhaust components.

Incident occurred after refueling... once unknown as we refueled at home and trailered to a drop off point. Gas tank had unknowingly leaked in trailer. Smelled fuel when unloading but thought it was just because we had refueled. Now knowing what do the gas gauge was down a bar when we left on the ride.

Rode 80 miles to Prentice WI where we refueled... used 6.6 gallons ... more than usual when getting 14-15 mpg typically. Began riding to lunch destination 3 miles away. Smelled gas while riding. Upon stopping took off side panel, saw gas running down side of tank in engine compartment. Quickly pulled console off and saw gas running out of top collar where fuel sending unit is. Gas was dripping directly on top of engine and running along belly pan near exhaust.

Fuel continued to leak until for 15 - 20 minutes until fuel level dropped.

This is an extremely dangerous situation and Arctic Cat needs to RECALL this and other snowmobiles that have this fuel tank. I am glad we had stopped rather than continuing down the railroad grade at 55 mph... it could have resulted in more than a very disappointed rider.

I will be requesting that Arctic Cat cover all costs and issue an immediate recall. I will also be informing all other F series Arctic Cat Owners of the problem through our snowmobile club and County/State Association AWSC.

The internet also has reports of this happening to the [REDACTED] of which I am also an owner.

I own a 2012 arctic cat xf 800 sno pro, and it has a very bad problem with ice buildup in the tunnel. The problem I had was in the middle of january I was on a ride in the upper peninsula of Michigan, it was between 0 and 10 degrees outside and while riding down a straight trail a large chunk of ice broke off in my tunnel at about 50mph and locked up my track for a split second almost tossing me off the snowmobile. I am afraid if this issue isn’t corrected someone is going to get either badly hurt or killed. Arctic cat seems to know about the problem but yet has done nothing to correct it. There are many more of these cases documented in the forums at the website hardcoresledder.com. While my snowmobile was at the dealer I let them know about it and said rep from arctic cat told him they knew about the problem but didn’t know when, or if they were going to do anything about it. Please help before me, or someone else is badly injured from a faulty design.

2007 Arctic Cat F5 Snowmobile with 2800 miles developed stress fracture about 2-3 inches long in the front portion of the gas tank that holds fuel pump. This area is not prone to human contact while riding.

Gas under pressure streams out onto engine and is an extremely dangerous situation which can involve burns, fire and/or explosion of the snowmobile.

Arctic Cat is “good willing” the tank as long as a dealer installs the gas tank which takes approx 2 hrs of labor time which Arctic Cat will not reimburse.

Several complaints have been reported on websites and it seems to affect 2007 and later models (F5, F6 & F7). There have been reports of the F6 model exploding after filling the gas tank.

My snowmobile would expell gas from full to about 3/4 full.

This is a very serious situation and I don’t see how Arctic Cat hasn’t recalled these snowmobiles due to the safety issue involved.

I purchased my 2005 Arctic Cat snowmobile brand new so I have been the only owner or operator of the vehicle for its entire life. Shortly after purchasing it I receive a recall letter conserning a steering component and the fuel tank. I returned the machine to the dealer where both issue where corrected, I thought. they installed a sleeve in the filler neck to strengthen it and change a knuckle on the stering. Last weekend while snowmobiling in Michigan my gas tank started leaking. At first I thought it was the gas cap leaking so I purchased one at the Picklemans AC dealership in Newberry, MI. I found out later that day that my filler neck was cracked almost all of the way around it. I didn’t recieve any serious injury just a red area on my leg form the fuel that went away quickly. I repaired the crack as best I could 500 miles from home and on vacation. The sled is not leaking anymore and is ridable but I feel Acrtic Cat should make it right with me since their “fix” for the recalled fuel tank didn’t work. Kind of leaves me wondering about their “fix” for the steerin issue also.
