The product, in the report: Bauer Goalie Mask Purchase date: 6-2014
This consumer is reporting her daughter’s injury after the goalie mask she was wearing failed to protect her on the hockey ice when the puck hit the wire of the mask and the wire gave and broke her tooth. She is losing her canine tooth and her mouth is swollen. Her mother has paid $300 then $50 for the surgeon to review then she will have to pay $1650 for that and then the dentist after that. She is reporting this for record purposes due to the product being recalled at this time with release# 15-105. She has not contacted the manufacturer at this time because she said they are in Chapter 11 and she doesn’t know whether she can legally contact them.

The product, in the report: Bauer NME10 ice hockey goalie helmet with titanium cage senior fit 1
14 year old Ice Hockey goalie, wearing Bauer NME10 goalie mask with Titanium cage Playing at practice, took a shot (puck) off the cage which severely dented and broke the titanium cage right at his eye level. He was dazed and suffered an unnecessary and unexpected experience. It was our understanding that the $900+ Bauer hockey helmet was more than adequate to protect him from an injury due to faulty equipment. We were absolutely unaware of any recall on this helmet that our son has been wearing for over a year. We were not informed of any safety risk, and if we had been informed we would never have let our son continue to wear this helmet which was supposed to be protecting his head. I went today to Monkey Sports to get a replacement cage, was unable to find one, with the help of the goalie department manager there ended up buying an entire new mask. The manager was unable to remove the broken Bauer titanium cage from original helmet. He had no knowledge whatsoever of any recall, nor did I until I went home and went on the Bauer website to send them pictures of what happened to the titanium cage. Unknown previously to me I stumbled upon the recall information. I am beyond angry as a parent that my son has worn this helmet with this titanium cage for the past almost 2 years without any information at all regarding a safety issue. Had we been informed we would have rectified the situation immediately.

The product, in the report: Defective face cage on a Bauer NME10 Ice Hockey Goalie Helmet
During a Hockey Game My son was wearing hie Bauer NME10 goalie helmet and he took a hard shot to the protective face cage. To our surprise the cage had a crack through it and my son was in danger of and injury due to the metal cutting his face. Although he did not get hurt i am very disappointed with this manufactures product . After research i come to find others were injured due to this defect. I would hope the manufacture would do a better job of notifying the public about this. I would hope they would test their product better in the future.

No one hurt Made Dec 30, 2015, sent to the company Jan 12, 2016, published by CPSC Jan 29, 2016
The product, in the report: Bauer Hybrid Shield size small. Hockey face shield. Combination of polycarbonate visor and wire cage. https://www.bauer.com/player-ice-hockey-helmets-and-facial/visors/hybrid-shield
Product is the Bauer Hybrid Shield. The product snapped in the visor portion along the left side vent holes closest to my son’s left eye. The product breaking wasn’t the result of a fall, hit, puck, etc. He was just unbuckling the mask when it snapped. Fortunately none of the polycarbonate fragments or broken edge injured his eye or face. The product’s weakest point is located by the user’s most sensitive/fragile area. Therefore, it seems the product was not designed to fail safely.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Apr 8, 2015, sent to the company Apr 15, 2015, published by CPSC Apr 29, 2015
The product, in the report: Bauer Concept C-1 goalie helmet with titanium mask and shock absorbing wire
My son, [REDACTED] , is a high school hockey goalie and suffered a concussion in a game on February 6, 2015. He was wearing a Bauer Concept C-1 certified goalie mask/helmet during a high school game and was hit by a puck in the mask. The mask was unofficially recalled that month. It appears that due of the deficiency in the wire on the mask, the mask was pushed in, dented beyond repair and failed to distribute the force of the puck hitting his mask. The wire was advertised as “shock absorbing wire”. It did not absorb the shock, which I believe was a contributing factor to the concussion.

No one hurt Made Dec 1, 2014, sent to the company Dec 17, 2014, published by CPSC Jan 5, 2015
The product, in the report: Bauer 7500 Hockey Helmet Combo
Bauer Equipment sells the Bauer 7500 Hockey Helmet, which uses an adhesive to secure padding inside the helmet. The helmet is certified by the Hockey Equipment Certification Council (HECC) for 6 1/2 years. The problem is that after an initial period the adhesive begins to fail and the inside padding falls out, eventually making the product unsafe.
1. ) A little over a year ago the side padding on my son’s helmet began coming unglued, and detached from the helmet. Several months later the pad on the crown of the helmet began falling off as well. At the time the helmet was just over 1 year old and in excellent condition other than the adhesive. During this period we contacted 3 Bauer retailers but were told there was nothing they could do. 2.) This October, the padding on the brow fell off, and rather than reattach as we had with the other padding, we stopped using the helmet as we considered it unsafe.
Given that ice hockey is the number 2 sport for rate of concussion, and that the 7500 is a top selling helmet, this would seem an issue that Bauer would want to address. However, this is not the case. Bauer does not offer any repair training for its retailers, and simply suggests they not offer a repair for helmets that are older than 365 days (even if the helmet is one week beyond the warranty period and in excellent condition). When contacted directly, Bauer corporate said it could offer no repair solution. Bauer abdicates any responsibility for materials or workmanship beyond 365 days, and to cover itself against liability recommends that any helmet with this issue, regardless of overall condition, be disposed and replaced.
