The product, in the report: HE 5T Sears Dryer
On Saturday 12 September 2015 after comments from my wife[REDACTED] concerning the continued overheating of our clothes (too hot to touch at the end of the cycle) in our Sears HE 5T (with steam option) dryer I decided to clean the vent. This is something I do twice a year usually around the Time change in October when I also replace the batteries in my smoke alarms. After a thorough cleaning of the vent and the back of the dryer I noticed what I would describe as a burnt rubber smell I thought it might be the drive belt so I took the top of the dryer off and was shocked with what I observed!!! The electronic module/controller/wire harness was melted and had also melted the plastic protective controller directly on top of the module (pictures are available). Despite this defect/flaw the dryer should no Error code (Trouble code as we call it in the automotive world) and the dryer continued to operate and operate at excessive temperatures! This in my mind put my family at risk for a fire and or shock hazard. There is no way in my mind that this dryer should have continued to operate without a warning or thrown a circuit to stop this dryer. I took the pictures to my local Fire Department H/Q in Londonderry, NH and there the battalion chief was equally shocked (no pun intended) about this device being melted and suggested that I report to the manufacture and Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The product, in the report: Clothes Dryer
My Sears Kenmore Elite Oasis ST dryer started smelling like something was burning. The burning smell didn’t go away so we called the fire department. When the fire department arrived, there was not smoke or Fire. Fire Department checked for heat and they didn’t find anything. Fire department told us to unplug the unit and call a repairman. Dryer is still under warranty and when Sears repairman came on Monday 2/10, he took off the front of the unit. The entire inside of the dryer had burned. He said the front lint collectors dryers have air leaks and the lint fills up inside the dryer. He said that there was only minimal lint in the inside of the dryer but it still caught on fire
