The reports, as CPSC published them
Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.
Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: maytag dryer model # medc400vw0
we have a maytag dryer #medc400vw0 that has overheated twice in my home. my wife awakened me at approx. 0200 a.m on tuesday on 4-09-13 to ask me to come look at the dryer in the utility room. she said she smelled a burning/hot smell. when i went in there the dryer element was glowing red but the timer displayed off position! when i went to pull the dryer out to unplug it i had to use gloves to pull it out because it was that hot! when i called maytag customer service i was told they would pay for a service call but not parts. when the service tech from sheltons quality service arrived he troubleshot the dryer. he reported to me that the motor contacts/relays were not working properly sending 240 volts to the heating element assy. the hi-limit switch did not function like it should have but instead activating the thermal shut-down switch on the outlet side of the dryer!this dryer got so hot that it warped the dividing metal between the heater elements according to the service tech. fromsheltons #918-622-6267. i feel that this dryer is a safety hazard and problem should be addressed! i am now burdened with buying a new dryer which i really cant afford right now! we have a special needs daughter in our dining room less than 20 feet away who requires oxygen. a fire igniting these o2 tanks would have been a disaster! we originally purchased this dryer from the maytag store/ appliance solutions in tulsa oklahoma, #918-459-0304. we appreciate your time in this matter! thank you. this appliance is less than 4 years old and consider this hazard unacceptable. the repair cost for this dryer with parts and labor was over 500.00 , which is more than i payed for it.

No one hurt Made Jan 3, 2013, sent to the company Feb 1, 2013, published by CPSC Feb 15, 2013
The product, in the report: Maytag dryer MED850WQ0
Maytag Dryer model#MED850WQ0 serial#2823089: Purchased July 2010, within 8 months, the dryer would run for an extended time , inside the drum would become dripping wet with dust stuck all over inside the drum and the clothes would not dry. I called Maytage and authorized tech opened up the dryer and saw the vacuum pulley nut came off and the belt to the vacuum was laying loose next to it. 7 months later the exact same thing happened; same symptom, same same cause, same solution, screw nut back on and reattach belt to vacuum. December 2012, now 3rd time it has happened. This is a fire and electrical hazard; fire hazard because dust can accumulate within the dryer and inside under the drum and electrical hazard because excess moisture dripping. Maytag suggested I buy an extended warranty because they will not cover manufacturer defects outside the warranty period even though the issue was initially discovered within the warranty period and the same defect has cause the dryer to malfunction now a total of 3 times. As well I have to pay $149 each time service comes out. Dryer should be recalled because vacuum malfunctioning could be a fire hazard. My telephone number is [REDACTED] if you need more information.
