The product, in the report: clothes dryer
(08/01/2022) The consumer has a safety concern about the anti-tip legs installed with the product. The consumer stated that the legs are not long enough to touch his concrete floor. When he tried to adjust them to the floor, the legs came all the way out. The consumer stated that his home is old and the floor is not level.
The consumer contacted the firm on 8/1 asking for longer anti-tip legs for the product. He was asked to provided pictures, which he did. After back and forth emails, the consumer was advised on 8/31 that the legs are for floors that are level and they cannot provide him the legs to extend.

The product, in the report: GE Dryer DPXQ473GTOWW
My dryer belt broke and the clothes inside started to catch fire. Luckily we were home and caught it in time. While repairing it I found that the safety switch was not being opened when the tensioner arm was released by the broken belt. Having repaired appliances for 30 plus years professionally I would think you would want to aware of this as I wonder how many fires caused by this were blamed on lint build up etc.

The product, in the report: GE clothes dryer Model GFDR270EH0WW
My GE dryer, model number GFDR270EH0WW, randomly started to smoke and catch on fire. It is only 7 years old. I thankfully happened to be in the kitchen(where the door to my washer and dryer room is located) and noticed an electrical burning smell. I looked around and saw the dryer control panel was smoking excessively and was incredibly hot to the touch. I immediately unplugged the unit and began to fan the control panel and luckily after a few minutes it stopped. Now, the dryer is unusable as it will not turn on. The dryer was not in use at the time this happened, and had not been used since the previous day. The lint trap is cleaned after every use, and the exhaust line is also regularly cleaned. I contacted GE and had a technician come out to look at the dryer. The technician said the electrical board behind the control panel malfunctioned and caught fire. He also noted how it is very odd that this happened when the dryer was not in use. I am very lucky I happened to be in the area when this happened and it did not happen in the middle of the night as there are bedrooms located directly above the laundry room. I am currently working with GE for them to replace my dryer, and I felt the need to also report this to the proper agency as this could have been a deadly situation.

The product, in the report: GE This is a clothes dryer. Model GFD85ESSN0WW
The inner glass window in my year old clothes dryer exploded while clothes were drying. When I opened the door there was glass all over the clothes and some glass landed on the floor. I had to pick up glass in order to remove the clothes from the dryer. There is still lots of slivered glass and minute pieces of glass in the dryer drum and door and on the floor. It happened on June 21, 2021. The dryer is in the laundry room of my home in Arizona. I called the GE phone number and they are sending a repair man on Tuesday but I was told I have to cover the cost because I did not buy the extended warranty. I am so grateful that there were no little children around at the time it happened and that no one was cut removing the clothes.

The product, in the report: Dryer
Caller stated that the dryer does not prevent lint from building up in the vent which will cause a house fire. Caller noticed this about a month later that there was lint being dispersed unto his deck from the exhaust fan from the dryer.
(1/2015) He stated that he has contacted the retailer about this flaw design and a service technician was sent out, he was informed that the filter vent housing was loose and a replacement was sent out 2/2015. The replacement resolve the issue for a few months and then the problem started to re-occur. 9/2015 He contacted them and the service technician came out and he advised that the dryer vents were designed in that way and that he could contact the manufacturer.
Caller feels that the agency should be made aware of this before it causes harm or property damage to consumers.

The product, in the report: GE dryer model dbl333eb3ww
My wife was getting sheets out of our ge dryer model dbl333eb3ww and they were stuck between the drum and the frame. She was trying to pull them out and received an electrical shock. I figured it was her and not the machine so I tried to pull the sheets out and sure enough I got shocked too (240V not a static shock). I just took the dryer apart and do not see any obviously frayed wires that are touching the frame, but thought it should go into some database a a potentially dangerous product.
Thanks

The product, in the report: GE clothes dryer
Dear Sirs: october, 31,
We purchased a GE clothes dryer about 12 years ago. I have seen safety messages on TV that recommend cleaning the dryer vent pipe to prevent a possible fire due to accumulated lint. I have cleaned the vent pipe from the back several times. Today I dried some clothes and removed the screen that is designed to catch some of the lint that occurs during the tumbling and drying process. When i removed the screen to clean it I discovered that there was a large buildup of lint below and to the left of the screen. I reached down into the cavity as far as I could reach and was able to remove some lint but much remained. I utilized a strong piece of wire and was able to remove even more. I think I removed nearly a pound as was pleased that we did not have a fire form the accumulated lint. I believe that there should be an easy access panel that the average homeowner should be able to open to check for accumulated lint as well as being able to remove that lint. I know that there would be a cost involved in making an access panel but i truely believe that it could prevent dryer fires. I do not know the statistics regards dryer, and resulting house fires, that occur around the country. I have seen fires blamed on such type fires in articles in the newspaper. I would hope that those type fires could be prevented and would save not only homes but also save lives as well. I hope that your office would give this suggestion serious consideration as I believe that you can convince the dryer manufacturers to incorporate an access panel in their products. [redacted]
