The product, in the report: GE Dryer M# GTD84ECPN1DG
This has been on ongoing issue that has needed to be repaired 4 times and is a fire risk. This is on my GE dryer, it first occurred within the warranty period of 12 months and most recently this past Sunday. The wire for the heating element is either not a heavy enough gauge or the connection is not sufficient enough to handle the current load. Over time, the wire deteriorates causing an increase of resistance until the wire sheathing melts along with the copper stranded wire and the solder-less crimp connector. At this point I can find bits of once molten copper on the bottom of my dryer along with lint which is the cause for my fire concern. I recently asked a GE certified repair person about this and he said that there has been no correction to this and that he carries a baggie with dozens of spade connector with him for the sole purpose of repairing these GE dryers.
