The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

Made Apr 27, 2012, sent to the company May 8, 2012, published by CPSC May 22, 2012

The product, in the report: GE Adora dryer

I was again removing another ruined shirt from my GE Adora dryer model DHDVH52GF1WW (there is a design flaw with this model, so clothing frequently gets caught between the drum of the dryer and the wall of the dryer surrounding the door, and when the dryer turns and pulls on the clothing it frequently makes holes in the clothes, which I complained about under warranty and GE could not care less). This time, the shirt was really stuck fast, and I had to get a chair to stand on to get part way into the dryer (it is stacked on the washer). As I got into the dryer, I noticed the smell of smoke. Lint had built up around the exposed incandescent bulb and was smoking (the stuck shirt was likely touching the bulb as well, but does not appear scorched, just a hole in it from where it was caught). Fortunately, I noticed the smoke and removed the build up of lint touching the bulb without having a fire in the drum of my dryer. I did not notify GE this time, because I had extended warranties for the dryer and matching washer and neither worked well and the problems were never solved under warranty despite numerous attempts on my part and repeated service calls. If they would not fix problems covered by a warranty (e.g. the washer leaking water much of the time), I’m sure they are even less concerned now.
